  1. Snow Leopard on a Gateway NV53

Any news if there's a better audio kext for the conexant? The photo booth fix is just annoying. And the screen saver and some animations are still choppy. Until then, I don't think having mac as the primary OS in the Gateway NV53 is a good idea.

Oh.. Well then I guess the AMD kernel patch for 10.6.2 worked coz I can boot without the Empire CD. I tried both boot loaders, the one that worked for me was the myhack. Probably because I did the combo update.

How were you able to change the boot background from the MyHack bootloader? I still got the snow leopard and the takes the isuck in ihack screens. Were you able to change those? Also, what happens if you don't apply the AMD kernel patch?

So I have to reinstall everything for the battery icon? I think I'll pass for now lol

You're the best elalan5! I guess you can still patch with the combo update but yeah, I've had some problems with that. I also noticed, there is no battery icon? And when you close the lid, it goes to sleep, but when you open it, the screen is just blank. Just some observations. Other than these, and the constantly open photo booth, everything's savvy. Oh yeah, it works! So photo booth is just running in one of my spaces. Thats weird. Is there no other kext for conexant audio? I've been looking around for a better kext for ati radeonhd 4200. Is the one from dong really the only one out there?

Something went wrong when I did the reinstall on my other partition, so I decided to figure out whats wrong with the 10.6.2 install. Apparently, the problem was the boot loader Chameleon, are you sure thats the version that worked for you? I installed the chameleon hack from the empire efi disc (in the post installation folder), the one with the Storm Trooper icon, and I was able to fix radeon with that but no keyboard and touchpad. I had to reboot using empire efi disc again (which btw can only recognize up to 1GB of RAM) just to get the kexts for those and install those using the storm trooper boot (which can recognize the whole 4GB RAM), which I noticed was a lower version of chameleon than the one posted in your link. Bottomline, I got everything to work under 10.6.2, except for the choppy graphics and audio. The photobooth trick didnt work by the way. And any movie you try to watch is like having 5 FPS, very choppy. I hope there'd be a newer kext for the radeon. That is the problem right?

The minimize and open animations seem a little choppy, is it really that way with the latest from dong's script? Also, did you get the touch volume controls to work? It works, but I cant seem to lower the volume without going to the system prefs.

Okay Ill let you know. YOU ARE THE BEST! Thanks a lot. Also, I found out something, when you edit the info.plist file of the radeon kext, you have to rebuild the cache again using kext utility before you restart, otherwise its still a block of colors. Ill let you know how it goes after i redo everything

Still nothing. Ive got the Gateway NV5378u, is that the same as yours? I think I have to re-do everything. Just a question, why do you have to do the combo upgrade and amd kernel patch?
  11. Snow Leopard on a Gateway NV53

Its been 30 minutes and its just spinning slowly. I did whats written here, the combo updater, do not restart, the amd kernel patch, and the chameleon. But after restarting, it's just stuck there
  12. Snow Leopard on a Gateway NV53

I'm on my first boot after the combo update and amd and chameleon. Its stuck at the apple logo screen with the spinning wheels. Is it really this long? The wheels are turning but its been a while now.

Still nothing. I'm a complete noob. I burned the empire efi 1085 r2, it boots with the black screen with Empire EFI logo (without darth vader), I eject the disk, put in a retail snow leopard, it loads a lot of text, then it says press any key, and it still hangs at the same screen that says system uptime in nanoseconds: 0 This is what the whole screen says: panic(cpu 0 caller 0x2a6ac2): Kernel trap at 0x0029421a, type 0=divide error, registers: blah blah blah (some numbers) Mac OS version: Not yet set Kernel version: Darwin Kernel Version 10.0.0: Fri Jul 31 22:47:34 PDT 2009; root:xnu-1456.1.25~1/RELEASE_I386 System uptime in nanoseconds: 0
