1. Does anyone has a slow hard drive access problem? I installed everything with the help of the first posts, and my machine is working but when ever i have to do a heavy hard drive operation, it slows down for ever. For example: sudo /usr/libexec/locate.updatedb This takes for ever and I cannot run any other program. I have run tests to the disk (smartmon tools) and it seems fine. The hard drive is Western Digital 1Tb hard drive. I have i7 920 procesor. Sound works great, I used the first kext that was given, no the latest. I installed with kakewalk, and used the dsdt that was provided in the first posts for i7 920 procesors. I found this on the kernel log # grep -i error kernel.log Sep 29 15:44:01 Lu-Hackers-Mac-Pro kernel[0]: SerialATAPI Terminating due to unrecoverable Reset error - drive has stopped responding. (resetType = 0x0, newPowerState = 0x1, failedCommandInfo = 0x1) Oct 8 14:06:38 hackinotsh kernel[0]: SerialATAPI Terminating due to unrecoverable Reset error - drive has stopped responding. (resetType = 0x0, newPowerState = 0x1, failedCommandInfo = 0x1) I left vuze the other day running, when i came back everything was stopped because it couldnt read the disk. There was a virtual memory running low message or something like that. Sometimes the ethernet card doesnt work, and i have to reboot the machine to get it to work, (this happens like once a week), i feel this happens because OSX cant read the hard drive and cant load the kext or something like that. should i get another drive?? Mine is brand new and has guarrantee, but i bet if i explain that i was building a hackintosh, they are going to try to invalidate the guarantee, so i want to be sure before i demand a new hard drive, and format it. Is there something in my configuration that can make hard drive act so slow? Something that I should check. Does the brand of a hard drive matters when you are building a hackintosh? I thought only processors, mbo and video cards were the key points. Last question, if i copy everything to another harddrive, switch the SATA ports it should be able to boot from my second hard drive. Or i need to do some twitching?
2. Hey guys, I kind of reseted a lof of things, reinstalled the combo update 10.6.4 because at some point at the beginning i mixed methods and my hackintosh worked but it crashed, everytime it wanted to access something on the disc gave me a lot of problems. The thing is that the sound worked perfectly at the beginning but it crashed and it was really slow. The ethernet card only worked at 32 bits. Then, reading the advances of this post and the awesome DSDT.aml that nullspot provided for I7-920, I tried to fix everything. I didnt do a clean install because it was loaded with Adobe CS 4 and CS 5 plus Final Cut and all the plugings, but patched everything using backups from extensions and extra file i took before installing kakewalk. After this SL never crashed it didnt took for ever to read a file or afolder from the hard drive. But the sound didnt work, and well some friend of my f#cked up connecting the speakers in the wrong plug, but i realize later that the sound was not working because of that. But by then it was too late i already installed Voodoo, with voodoo the sound worked, but the volume was too low, the headphones didnt work right. Sometimes when the headphones and the speakers were plug there was sound in both, or i had to manually select the output channel in Preference-> Sound. Before when i plugged the headphones the speakers went silent. And for some reason i had to keep fixing permits all the time. So today the computer was messed up, and even after i used disk utilities, it kept telling me that i need to fix permits right away if i clicked on fix permits. So i dont know what i did wrong so i reinstalled the combo update for 10.6.4 i read somewhere that it will return everything to vanilla, deleted everything from /Extra and VoodooHda from /S/L/E, booted from kakewalk, installed kakewalk as mentioned here. The card was working. Installed sound as mentioned here. (When I installed kakewalk, it installed Legacy.kext in /E/E, i installed the legacy899 from this thread (#33) and deleted that legacy). After that I installed the fakesmc from nullspot. and applehda, i got sound. From the speakers, from the right the speakers socket, and it is way louder than before. Installed the same things jfoo installed with ##### (post #121) And everything seemed to work, except the headphones. When ever I tried using them the whole audio freezes, the mouse changes to that loading circle it shows everytime the computer is procesing something, cannot raise or lower the volumen. After that I unplug the headphones from the front audio socket, the volumen moves and the computer unfreezes. It is like there are some voodoohda things still there and it is not working. In /L/P/Audio i found the file com.apple.audio.devicesettings.plist, inside i can see a lot of VoodooHDA engine:0 .... 6 I deleted those files from /L/Preference/Audio and they reappear with the VoodooHDA . With the speakers connectd if I plug the headphones on Left, right or middle sockets in the back sockerts, i can hear sound but when i plugged them to the front i just listen similar to a vinyl record when it is stacked at the end(really low) and the computer freezes. Unpluging the headphones brings everything back to normal. Is there a way to reset all the preferences and erase any trace of voodoo , beside erasing the kext which i already did.?
3. Thanks, awesome i am going to give it a try
4. What changes do I have to do for a i7-920 procesor, will it work the same as yours?
5. Well my hackintosh is running with audio and everything like i said on my previous post, but sometimes when i try to open a folder it takes for ever to display the images, and it happens a lot that in any program it freezes for about a second or two. Is there something i should check so i can narrow down the problem. I checked kernel.log and found this, i think it is problem, the hard drive is brand new so i am hoping it is not the problem, just a kext or something 1502:Jun 10 15:24:46 The-Lu-Hackers-Mac-Pro kernel[0]: disk2: I/O error. 1503-Jun 10 15:24:51 The-Lu-Hackers-Mac-Pro kernel[0]: SAM Multimedia: READ or WRITE failed, SENSE_KEY = 0x03, ASC = 0x02, ASCQ = 0x00 1504:Jun 10 15:24:51 The-Lu-Hackers-Mac-Pro kernel[0]: disk2: I/O error. 1505-Jun 10 15:25:14 The-Lu-Hackers-Mac-Pro kernel[0]: SAM Multimedia: READ or WRITE failed, SENSE_KEY = 0x03, ASC = 0x02, ASCQ = 0x00
6. Well, I have practically your same hardware. First I tried ##### + #####. I installed it with no problem, it booted but i had now audio and no ethernet card. I installed Voodoo and the audio worked, it seemed ok, i didnt do any special tests but it sounded ok. The problem was the ethernet card i tried many things, then read about a problem with the realtek driver and 64 bits, booted with 32 bits, but it didnt seemed to work. After a while i messed up with so many kext that i had problem booting, and i can only booted with the ##### cd. I tried a clean install with kakewalk. It worked fine, i did everything you did up to installing kakewalkboot 2.2 and installed the realtek driver. (it worked, but i had no audio). So i tried installing #####, for voodoo but i had a problem booting, it just didnt boot. so i used the ##### cd, and everything worked, even audio and ethernet card. Installed some stuff, but couldnt boot without the cd. So at the end i did something and my computer only recognized 4 GB ram instead of 8, and nothing was working. I did a new install with kakewalk and followed your steps i think that you can use directly new kakewalk cd, instead of an old version and then upgrade it, if you add arch=i386 to your /Extras/com.apple.Boot.plist, so the ethernet works. To sum everything up, ##### + ##### Audio with Voodoo kext, Ethernet card didnt work, (even with 32 bits, but the problem might be that i tried to many options and /S/L/E was kind of a mess also /E/E) Processor recognized as I7 Core 2 Quad not as 2.7 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon VideoCard GeForce 9800 GT, worked dual monitors Sleep seemed to work. It went to sleep and came back without any problems Kakewalk, Audio with Legacy drivers, and replacing the AppleHDA.kext Ethernet card worked with drivers from the website. Processor recognized as 2.7 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, i dont know if this will affect the performance, i am pretty sure there is something i can do to fix this. VideoCard GeForce 9800 GT, worked dual monitors Sleep, when i pressed sleep, the computer crashed, i just finished installing so i have to do further testings, i read somewhere you can fix this.. In both cases I installed SL 1.6 and upgraded to 1.6.3 with the combo thing. It didnt seem to matter the changes in the hardware between the upgrade. I also have PCI firewire card (800), it works out of the box, the external e-sata ports are working. I will keep you updated. If I knew how to create DSDT, i would have but right now i am to lazy and there are so many things i have to do. My plan was to use the DSDT file they give in TonyMacx86 (http://www.tonymacx86.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=931&start=0), for the REV 1.0 and work my way up.
