After replacing AppleMediaServices.framework all is well
That was on my Mojave install on a spare USB drive.
I'm now going ahead with the update on my main install.
    Thanks for all the help.

I've just updated from 10.14.1 to 10.14.2 using the Q7 script.
The update initially failed, I think it's because I chose the combo update.
I then tried again using just the 10.14.2 update from the list and it installed ok.
I then rebooted and ran sudo update_dyld_shared_cache -force and rebooted again.
This produced loads of errors that I've attached here.
I'm unable to launch app store or safari.

Followed Crabhunters advice to choose regular update instead of combo updater and it worked in the VM! Combo updater was the first thing I tried and it lead to endless reboots of the VM. With regular updater everything is fine.
Additionally to updating dyld caches and rebuilding kextcaches in single user mode, AppleMediaServices.framework was replaced to get the everything running again. So far it seems to be fine:

Thanks to everyone involved, especially crazybirdy, of course!

You should have curl download error issue with macOSUpd10.14.1.pkg, need to update again, if it still get errors with curl, need to download the files manually as script shows to you.

Both work fine, you can use MBR-Manual-Method first for fresh installation.

    Yeeees! We did it!

Thank you crazybirdy, gengik84 and everybody else involved! I rolled back everything again, took a deep breath and then ran Q7 updater script. I then shut down the machine, booted up in single user (trivia: In my first attempt I forgot to disable SIP before updating, so I had to do everything twice. Ouch!), refreshed kextcaches and after a fairly quick reboot it's finally up and running:

    Apple apps work.

Thank you very much for your help, it is greatly appreciated.
Now let's test how stable it is!

Thanks for any tips to solve this problem. Everything is going now again.
But why did Apple change this? just to annoy us with hackintosh or is it something else on it?

i have testet Apple.Media.frameworks from a updatet 10.14.2 Beta1 from APFS Partition replace in hfs+ Partition,  many Apple Apps work only Safari works not.

Replace it with 10.14.1, all Apple apps work fine with MBR HFS+ on 10.14.2 18C31g.

I wish the final release will fix the beta bug issue, if it's a bug, not a OOXX.

Hi.. i don't have any issue with hfs on 10.14.2 (I updated from release)
For go back to 10.14.1 you can use "combo update" by Apple after unlocked it
You have any log about your issue?

It looks like, you have the error of "the Installer Source is damage" issue, you should check the md5 first.
It could be the network issue when you download the full installer with "Q6-DownloadFullApp/installScript_1014fullapp",
and didn’t get the complete installer app, especially the big size one "InstallESD.dmg".

    Check md5 with Terminal command:
    md5 "Install macOS Mojave.app/Contents/SharedSupport/InstallESD.dmg"

    mac OS 10.14.0.18A391
    -rw-r--r--  1 501     2890005  9 25 07:21 /10.14.0.18A391/Install macOS Mojave.app/Contents/SharedSupport/AppleDiagnostics.dmg

The createinstallmedia method can only install to GPT APFS partition on Mojave, GPT HFS+, APFS on High Sierra, both update to new version 10.13.x, 10.14.x fine.
You mean, MBR High Sierra update to MBR Mojave,
    MBR-Manual-Method can't do that,
only the new MBR-Automatic-Method can do that, but I have removed the files.
If anyone need MBR-Automatic-Method, I can upload it again.

    I told you before,
Both MBR HFS+ and GPT HFS+ need to use Q7-Update-installScript/installScript_1014 to update.
