  1. I'm having a weird problem with my setup. This has happened twice in a few days.. I put my computer to sleep and when I wake it up with a mouse click it all seems fine.. I can move the mouse and so, but as soon as I click on something the systems locks up. I can still move the mouse but thats it. Cant even pop up the Force Quit (cmd+opt+esc) and menubar has stalled (time doesnt change). I have to hard reboot. Any suggestions?
  2. Thanks for the reply. What I did was to install Carbon Copy Cloner and cloned my 10.6.3 system to the new SSD. I havnt installed any bootloader on the new drive as I actually dont need it. The computer boots chameleon from my "old" drive and i just choose it to load my new ssd drive. boots like a charm. i then installed 10.6.7 on the ssd using a combo installer and all hardware worked. Final Cut Pro X didnt work though.... Saying: " Final Cut Pro cannot be opened because of a problem. Check with the developer to make sure Final Cut Pro works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X. Click Report to see more detailed information and send a report to Apple." I tried about everything to make it run..no luck. I then decided to install 10.6.8 combo and as expected I didnt have any sound on startup. A quick googlesearch gave me the right kext (AppleHDA.kext 2.zip) and I installed it with kext utility and rebooted and I got sound. Everything works, networks, sleep wake and all. And Final Cut Pro X works! (i thought the requirements were 10.6.7 but apparently not)
  3. Hi. I have a Hackintosh with a GA-EX58-UD5 (F11), i7-920, GTX260 and i'm running 10.6.3 @64bit, chameleon 2.0 rc4 (aserebln 1.1.9), d00ds dsdt. Well, everything works, Sleep&wake, network, 5.1 sound, everything. The thing is that i really need to update to 10.6.7 or higher. preferably Lion if it means it that it will be stable and stuff will work. But I have no problem using SL if Lion is not 100% compatible with my hardware. I need that App store and Final Cut Pro. I bought a SSD today that i want to use for OS X and all applications. What is the best approach to update/copy/install latest SL or Lion on the new drive?
  4. I have "MacPro4,1" (all info is in the signature) running 10.6.3 and all is good n lovely. the thing is i that i want to upgrade to Lion.. (or at least 10.6.7) to be able to use the new Final Cut Pro. (I also have a Macbook Pro 2.33ghz core2duo with 10.6.7.) The plan is to buy a SSD and use it as the OS hard drive. So the question is: What is easiest way for me to install Lion on the new drive and use it my "Mac Pro"? Should i try to update the mac pro to 10.6.7 before installing Lion. Could i just install it right from the apple store? 10.6.3:64:ABLN1.1.9:MacPro4,1:GA-EX58-UD5@F11:d00d's DSDT:i7-920@2.7GHz:6x2GB@1600MHz:GTX260:2xDVI:2x24"BENQ
  5. cause they are ejectable? sata drives usually are.
  6. thanks! i'll give that one a try. seems solid! edit: works absolutely perfect.
  7. Update via Software Update worked perfect. Just repair/rebuild caches after install and reboot. Kexts in /E/E: OrangeIconFix.kext, fakesmc.kext Kexts in S/L/E: RealtekR1000SL.kext reboot, sleep, well everything works. Just have to get into fixing speed steps once and for all.. Anyone who can post their macpro4,1.plist? also, do you have change values in it if you change clockspeed of cpu? edit: wooooops... not everything works. Sound is gone. I used ANARCHiNTOSH patched AppleHDA.kext with 10.6.2. worked perfect. Those who have sound on ga-ex58-ud5 after 10.6.3: what kext/solution are you using?
  8. 2. Ahh /Extra... ok. i googled for THe KiNG OrangeIconFix.kext and found a post by him on a different forum where he stated that it were supposed to go in /S/L/E and if /Extra it needs to be in .mkext. i'll try the /extra folder. thank About geekbench. when i ran the 32bit geekbench in i386 SL i got around 8400points. but i wonder why the 64bit gbench in 32bit SL gave higher score. i think its more that the 64bit gbench in 32bit SL displayed wrong result rather than the performance being reduced by 64bit gbench in 64bit SL. Thanks for the files mate! i'll try it out and hopefully have sound.
  9. 1) My onboard ethernet is working. but the iStat Menus are not showing any activity. also the Link Speed is 0mbit in Network Utility. i copied manually RealtekR1000SL.kext to my /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/ folder. added this to com.apple.Boot.plist <key>PciRoot</key> <string>1</string> <key>EthernetBuiltIn</key> <string>yes</string> rebuilt caches & repaired permissions and rebooted did i do anything wrong or am i using wrong RealtekR1000SL.kext ? 2) Tried OrangeIconFix.kext (copied it to S/L/E) rebuilt caches & repaired permissions and rebooted didnt change anything in com.apple.boot.plist (should i?) and it didnt have any effect. still orange icons. also, i have a general question about performance. i tried Geekbench 2.1.4 64bit when i was running arch=i386 and i got around 9500points. tried the same with removing arch=i386 and booting 64bit. the result is 8555. anyone have an explanation?
  10. thanks for the pointer! i'll try it right away.
  11. aschars link to his alc889a v2 doesnt work. anyone who has the kext for audio? i have the ga-ex58-ud5 with 6, 3.5mm jacks on the mobo. i'm using d00d's dsdt.aml and want to get 5.1 digital/analog sound.
  12. thanks i'll try it! http://prasys.co.cc/2009/10/empire-efi/ which one should i choose? Empire EFI for Intel Core i7 and Intel X58 Chipset (V1.04 by aschar) -- This version is tuned for X58 Chipset. it contains support for X58 Chipset and you shouldn’t be getting any black screens on your X58 Chipset with Core i7 processors. aschar who is also an i7 user has built this cd (by the way -- knows exactly the do and donts of X58 and Core i7) . This version contains special X58 extensions , a guide on how to patch ALC889a codec (which is commonly found on X58 motherboards) and other X58 related stuff. or Empire V1.08 (for ATI 48xx series graphics card and nVidia GeForce GTX2xx series along with support for i5/i7 8xx series and P55 chipset) after the install. at what stage to i start to follow DD's guide?
  13. My intend is to run SL only. What boot Cd should i use? the one i used to install Leopard was called 132boot, and its an oooold version of chameleon(i'm at work now, cant check exactly what version). Is it possible to use that to start the SL retail install dvd? or is there a better bootloader? (newer?) Or doesnt it really matter? Why does DD say that One drive must already have OS X installed and running. before you can install SL on your 2nd HD? As i understand you right, what you say is to skip the Leopard install and go straight to the SL install, partition the 1 first HD into 2(or more) parts and install. And the Less than 1tbyte "rule". is that just for the drive that has the SL installed on. or ALL drives under SL. I have 2 x 1,5tbyte HD's. (meaning, should i partition the 2nd HD into 2 parts as well?) Thanks alot for the guidance! (I'm a mac user since a few years back, i know pc's well and have built a couple of them. But the whole thing with bootloaders and stuff is confusing. and yes, i feel like a fool ) EDIT: How do i create a preinstall boot cd/usb (to be able to boot SL install) from X58 Mobo Patch Installer.zip? EDIT2: I tried chameleon 2.0 rc3 r658 (http://chameleon.osx86.hu/articles/chameleon-20-rc3-with-snow-leopard-and-large-disk-support), installed it on the usbstick, booted it. and i get 3 options. "Mac OS X Install DVD" (containing SL install) / "drive1" / "drive2". i can boot into SL that i have on 1 of the drives, but i cant boot into the SL Install. i get a kernal panic. So.... what boot cd/usb should i use to start the SL install? Macbook Pro 2.33mhz, 3gb ram. & "Working-On-MacPro" Ga-ex58-ud5 i7 920 6x 2gb corsair 1600mhz 2x 1.5t sata drives Geforce gtx260
  14. thanks for the answer. I installed Chameleon 2.0 RC4 on a usbstick and i'm now able to boot into snowleopard if using that usb-bootloader. got the black screen at first, but removed the NVDAresman.kext and it worked fine. I only have 1024x768 and 32mb vram. doesnt say what card. but i guess one could fix that. Would you recommend me to reinstall the leopard (and sl) with retail dvd even if its "sort of" up and running? If so.. Should i use that 132boot cd? and could i use a hddmounted retail leopard dvd and install it? Or should (if its possible) i use chameleon rc4 as bootloader for the leopard install? Its a bit annoying that i have to have that usbstick (with chameleon rc4 bootloader) to boot osx, it this fixable? if so, how? Edit: I dont know if i get you right... Do you mean that i only have to reinstall leopard, boot into leopard, run dds installer, and not reinstall SL ?
  15. Hi. I'm totally stuck! i've installed leopard+snowleopard 5 times now. still stuck. I use 132 bootloader cd, when it loads i remove the cd and ask it to boot from my usb drive that has Kalyway 10.5.2 mounted. it installs great (without the extras). aften reboot i have to: "-s" "/sbin/fsck -fy" "/sbin/mount -uw /" "passwd root ##" "touch /var/db/.AppleSetupDone reboot and leopard boots fine. now i partition the second 1.5t drive with Disk Utility to be ready for SL. mount the snowleopard_10a432_userdvd.dmg to my usb hdd drive. RUN-PATCH_INSTALLER do the /extra install. go through option 2 (Chameleon 2.0 RC4) ,3 ,4,5 (move audio to /system and press N),6,7, and 19(reboot), all good. when it reboots it just boots back to leopard... why??? and if i go into BIOS and change the HDD priority to boot from the 2nd drive (the one with SL) i get a Boot0: error after DMI check. if i change the hdd priority back in bios it boot into leopard again. So, what am i doing wrong???? I've tried formatting both drives to fat32 (win xp boot cd) before i install Kalyway and partition with guid to journaled. and then follow the same install.. same boot0: error. also tried to delete to partitions so that the drives are unformatted before i enter kalyway install. i've tried RUN-PATCH_INSTALLER and setting the partition as active (option #3), rebooting and still boot0: error. tried the terminal in "kalyway" to use fdisk to set partition as active. same boot0: error. Someone PLEASE help me! i've been struggling for so many days Ga-ex58-ud5 i7 920 6x 2gb corsair 1600mhz 2x 1.5t sata drives Geforce gtx260 Edit: could it be the fact that i'm using that 132bootloader? edit2: i'm suspecting that the problem is the bootloader.... but i not sure. and actually i dont know how to fix it. i tried installing Chameleon rc3 (http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=184766) and tried adding it to my leopard drive (the one that boots fine). did a reboot and i got a HFS+ Partition Error
