  1. Unsuccessful! I have to sadly give up on this and move on . Its 2013, and the X3100 seems to be dead and forgotten. RIP
  2. Am going to try this out (crossing fingers) Update: FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU :(
  3. Sadly , the problem still occurs for me, meaning this version of FakeSMC (3.1.0) did not fix the issue... and likely was not the cause of the issue. What was different though (in my case) was that the freezes happen less likely, to the point that you think the issue is solved. But alas... Some of us are stuck with these machines using x3100, no other option other than to keep trying or switch OS!
  4. This specific version (3.1.0) has so far fixed the problem for me, but I'll try the newer FakeSMC and see how that works out
  5. Try this version of FakeSMC (3.1.0) and report back if it saves the day. Update: See below (Post #175) FakeSMC_3.1.0.kext.zip
  6. Any progress on this issue? We should try keep this thread alive, at least until we can get a common solution or until some other thing comes up which solves the problem.
  7. Thanks for that, I replaced both AppleACPIPlatform.kext and IOPCIFamily.kext from the ones in 10.6.7 and the problem has stopped. (Although now the CPU is kind of slow in responding)
  8. hey guys, i updated to 10.6.8, and am having a prob whereby i can't exactly figure the cause. No kernel panic, no warning of any sort - my os x just hangs. Most of the time during boot, but if i get to the desktop, ~2-5min into it. CPU usage: 100%, top process: config.d (although i doubt its this). Any ideas/similar experiences? I have a Dell Inspiron 1420, Duo 2 Core. Some things i have done is to remove all network/audio kexts i used (which are all 3rd party) leaving the system as bare as possible. - Same prob. Change boot params, cpus=1 and the like. - Same prob. Removed my DSDT and booted bare. - Same prob. I am suspecting a problem with my processor/cpu kext or the kernel is constantly hitting a wall until it freezes my pc. Please, anyone who has had such a prob, in OS X, regardless of the version? PS: when it hangs during boot, its way after the single user point. Sometimes during fsck, sometimes during waiting for DSMOS, and one time just when the window manager kicked it. What am trying to say is that it was at random points.
  9. Hello, I have a Dell 1420 Inspiron that's running SL 10.6.6 pretty well, except for the graphics. I run an Intel GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller that uses the X3100 kext on SL. From hours and hours of searching and reading on numerous posts, its evident that the X3100 has issues with working. I'v tried different approaches to the problem from setting up a DSDT with the X3100 laptop fix, to using the 'Sleep Trick' (that fixes the display from wake) to downloading and using other users X3100 kexts (that they claim to work/worked for them) to mixing all these methods together. All I get is a blank screen from most of the approaches. Best I'v got is a blank screen with a mouse and lines that come and go. If I connect an external screen, that works. But its evident that SL detects the external screen is the only display available. Right now iv resorted to using SL without without any graphics kext. Has anyone, preferably with a Dell Inspiron 1420 running a Intel GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller or simply a X3100, managed to get the graphics card working? And if yes, how? Since all other X3100 posts seem outdated or old, this may bring some up to speed. Thanks. [uPDATE] I managed to get the X3100 kexts working, but under System Profiler, Graphics/Displays, the cards type is recognized 'GPU', instead of 'Display', which results in no graphics accel or Quartz GL. Any help is appreciated.
