Could anybody recommend which options/patch I should pick when I install Another question if anybody can answer it , I would very much appreciate : At the moment I'm using GRUB as bootloader . If I am not mistaken , after install OSX86, Chameleon will override it . So how to backup GRUB and restore it after installing OSX86 ? ( I may have to run to Linux forum to ask this question )
  2. Still-Waiting-For-Root-Device Problem

Hi everyone, I also got this infamous "still waiting for root device". After hours of searching over the forum and Internet, I gave up and decided to go here to post a question: My system is ASUS F3SG laptop, here is a snapshot of its spec: ================ SATA controller: Intel Corporation 82801HBM/HEM (ICH8M/ICH8M-E) SATA AHCI Controller (rev 03) (prog-if 01 [AHCI 1.0]) IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801HBM/HEM (ICH8M/ICH8M-E) IDE Controller (rev 03) (prog-if 8a [Master SecP PriP]) USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB UHCI Controller #1 (rev 03) (prog-if 00 [uHCI]) .... ================ The weird thing about my system is that out of about 20 attempts to boot , I got 1 success and 19 fails :-?? . Here are some methods I've tried so far : 1. BIOS settings : Sorry , this laptop's BIOS has limited options. In facts, I can't change anything 2. Used AHCI Fix ( AppleAHCIPort.kert and IOAHCIFamily.kert). Actually , in some rare occasion when I can boot into my system, I checked System Info->Serial-ATA and saw ACPI ICH8M ... or something like that. I'm confused that it works sometime but rarely :-?? 3. Tried to delete extensions.mkert under /System/Libarary and delete all files in Caches folders under /Library as well as /System/Library but next reboot does not work. 4. Tried different combination of options at boot (e.g. -v -f -x platform=ACPI cpus=1 rd=disk0s6 acpi=off noapic ... ) but it's not working. Once I can log in the system, I noted down what I did to make it work and tried to repeat this "success" but I can't . Another thing I want to mention is my system is triple boot ( Fedora-Vista-iDeneb 1.5.2 - not so sure about version of iDeneb) . My boot loader sequence is as following : First is GNU GRUB, second is Window Boot Manager , next is GRUB4DOS , and last is Chameleon v1.1.. ( that's the screen boot, I'm not sure the extract boot sequence ) . Maybe my boot sequence is : GRUB at the MBR , Easy BCD at the Vista partition, and Chameleon at the HFS+ partion. Any help would be appreciate . I'm so frustrated . If you need more info please tell me , I will actively check this thread.
  3. Hi , everyone First thing I want to say is to thank the forum for many useful posts, so I can successfully install a dual boot Vista/ Leopard on my laptop. Here is my situation ( Easy BCD 2.0 beta as bootloader ) http://www.flickr.com/photos/47753924@N03/4403708726/ I am going to install a Linux distro on the unallocated partition ( Fedora ), so make it triple boot . Now I want to ask is the following method correct way to do that : ( I don't want to mess up with my current system ) 1. I will install Fedora and GRUB on the unallocated partition . This is supposed not to affect any existing configurations , am I correct ? So after Installation , when I restart I will have the dual boot options I usually have . 2. In windows , I will add a Linux entry in Easy BCD. 3. After restarting, I will have triple boot options as I expected . Are my above assumptions correct ? Any risks should I aware of ? Thanks for your insight. P/S : I can't make a new topic. Wonder how can I become eligible to start a new topic ?
