  1. badaxe2 and kernel_task

In answer to my own question for future reference the problem was the driver for my m-audio firewire audiophile - a firewire sound card. Removing it (using the m-audio remove program) fixed the problem - simply unplugging the cable did not.
  2. I get a Firewire security error message on boot. My m-audio Firewire Audiophile appears to work with the leopard drivers from m-audio but it causes kernel_task to take almost 100% of one of my two cores. Not sure if it is firewire problem or m-audio/driver problem.
  3. BadAxe2 with GUID and EFI Tutorial

That fixed the sata hard drive - it now shows up as internal - thanks. Still no DVD. No ATA shows up in system profiler and there is no Disc Burning device as well. I had this working with my earlier MBR Kalyway install so I know it can be done (with the same bios settings). Do I need AppleIntelPIIXATA from here: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=88335 ???
  4. BadAxe2 with GUID and EFI Tutorial

I was having trouble with kernel_task running away with me and decided to try a clean install using leoforallv3 since I saw a post suggesting GUID would install correctly on a badaxe2 that way. I started out with MBR and a kalyway10.5.2 install and kernel_task was taking up 80% of one core all the time. The good news is the the clean install seems to have fixed the kernel_task problem (mostly - still comes up occasionally but a reboot fixes it). I'm now running vanilla kernel, AppleHDA patched sound, 2600PRO all fine. leoforallv3 didn't succeed in getting me a bootable GUID partition but that was simply fixed by setting the OSX partition bootable with fdisk. The problems are that my internal harddrive shows up as a yellow external disk and the ATA DVD burner doesn't show up in OSX at all (I am running with AHCI enabled in bios). Any suggestions? Thanks
  5. I don't have a solution but I do have the same problem so you're not alone. I don't have vmware installed so, at least in my case, it's not a culprit. Sometimes I start out fine and kernel_task takes off for some undetermined reason. More often it is pegged at about 80% right from the first login. I've tried unplugging all the peripherals I can (usb and firewire) and disabling in bios onboard sound etc. So far I can't isolate it. Running Kalyway 10.5.2 on a badaxe2 motherboard which people report is basically compatible. I have tried vanilla as well as sleep kernels.
  6. I have a kalyway 10.5.2 install on a badaxe2 motherboard. Everything seems to work (ATI2600 pro with qe/ci, onboard audio with patch, usb and IEEE, ...) however I get kernel_task taking up 80-90% of one of the cores. It doesn't happen all the time, sometimes when I first startup things are fine but it appears later, other times right from the outset. I've tried disabling on board audio and removing the kext - didn't help. I can't isolate what might be the problem. I've tried vanilla kernel and the two most recent ones from the netkas irc. Anyone else with a badaxe2 noticed this - any ideas?
  7. Zephyroth 5.2 - Kernel bug ?

I've got the same issue with a Kalyway 10.5.2 install (dual core - so it's 100% of a core presumably)
  8. You'd either have to buy Age of Empires III or get it from the usual places (demons and pirates). Pirates of the Caribbean Online is available for free and runs in limited mode without paying the monthly fee - google it to find it.
  9. Got this fixed for Word by doing clean Kalyway 10.5.2 and installing 7280 package. Still don't have success with fullscreen games - goes totally black but sound is playing so it doesn't hang. secondary adaptor is just showing blue screen - primary is OK with CI/QE. All opengl tests seem to work?? The AoE II log says: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ PreGame 13892: Render using: Radeon X1600 XT PreGame 13892: Driver: Radeon X1600 XT -- version 25968.20256.12336.14641 PreGame 13892: VendorID = 0x1002 PreGame 13892: DeviceID = 0x71c0 PreGame 13892: SubSysID = 0x656e PreGame 13892: Revision = 0xccf800 PreGame 13892: DeviceIdentifier: {bfffe948-6b45-91fa-0907-000000ccf000} PreGame 13929: XML render config -- found vendor 0x1002 as 'ATI' PreGame 13929: XML render config -- found device ID 0x71C0 as 'ATI R520' PreGame 13929: XML render config -- default device configuration file 'ATI R520' PreGame 17017: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ PreGame 17017: Render using: Radeon X1600 XT PreGame 17017: Driver: Radeon X1600 XT -- version 25968.20256.12336.14641 PreGame 17017: VendorID = 0x1002 PreGame 17017: DeviceID = 0x71c0 PreGame 17017: SubSysID = 0x656e PreGame 17017: Revision = 0xccf800 PreGame 17018: DeviceIdentifier: {bfffe828-6b45-91fa-0907-000000ccf000} PreGame 17054: XML render config -- found vendor 0x1002 as 'ATI' PreGame 17054: XML render config -- found device ID 0x71C0 as 'ATI R520' PreGame 17054: XML render config -- default device configuration file 'ATI R520' PreGame 43779: Game startup complete (40.99 sec)! PreGame 43779: ------------------------------------------------------------ so it looks like it's finding the wrong DeviceID (not to mention it's a 1950PRO not 1600XT). Also the cursor in the secondary monitor (blue screen) changes to the AoE III cursor. Running AoE III and POTCO successfully in windowed - fullscreen is the problem
  10. Further update: Age of Empires III also goes to black screen (with program still running audio). Word crashes with the following report: Thread 0 Crashed: 0 libRIP.A.dylib 0x94b446fe OGL_texture_find + 148 1 libRIP.A.dylib 0x94b4771c OGL_texture_image + 5539 2 libRIP.A.dylib 0x94b4873b OGL_image + 2712 3 libRIP.A.dylib 0x94b35731 ripd_Mark + 326 4 libRIP.A.dylib 0x94b2fc88 ripl_BltImage + 1299 5 libRIP.A.dylib 0x94b19b7d ripc_RenderImage + 273 6 libRIP.A.dylib 0x94b2a274 ripc_DrawImage + 4973 7 com.apple.CoreGraphics 0x90e682bd CGContextDrawImage + 397 8 com.apple.HIToolbox 0x9191ce98 HIViewDrawCGImage + 192 9 com.microsoft.Word 0x00453895 wdCommandDispatch + 1276973 looks like OPENGL problem. Other Microsoft Office 2008 apps (excel and powerpoint) seem to work OK.
  11. Great work, I gave up on hackintosh last year because I couldn't get accelerated graphics but clearly a lot has happened since then. I have installed the 10.5.2 Kalyway and after deleting all the graphics stuff that came with it have 9c7010 more or less working with X1950 Pro AGP 512 MB (7280) I have QE/CI and correct screen res. It shows PCI for bus. I tried editing Configuration.plist (deleted PCI string - it already had AGP) and Info.plist in ATIRadeonX1000.kext to change PCI to AGP - that just trashed QE/CI. There are references in the thread to AGPgart but they date back to prior to 9c7010 so not sure if that is needed. When I run Pirates of the Caribbean (a must if my kids are to let me ditch Windows on this machine) it appears to run OK but the screen is totally black. Not sure of it's related to the AGP/PCI thing or some other problem.
  12. Seems like one option worth pursueing now that the atv is being opened up software-wise is enabling a work around to the pin code required to connect via daap to itunes. This isn't supported by mt-daapd (aka firefly) http://www.fireflymediaserver.org/ and it would be nice to be able to stream to the atv from non itunes (e.g. linux based NAS) servers. Wonder how hard it is to implment given the underlying protocal is the same. One option might be to run front row copied from a mac via a hacked menu option since front row connects to any daap server.
  13. Is Apple TV worth to buy with 480p 4:3 screen?

how does it handle the 4:3 aspect ration when set to 480i?
  14. X700 and other PCIE ATI Radeon finally work

Making some progress here. If I edit plist with my device ID (Sapphire X800GTO AGP 554f) but do not edit the ATIRadeon9700 binary I get past the frozen boot screen to a working mouse and garbled graphics. If I get rid of ATIRadeon9700GA.plugin following Black Knight's post then I get a working display without core image and quartz extreme. However, ATIRadeon9700 extension is properly loaded. The ATIRadeon9700GA binary does not seem to have the magic 3D XX YY 00 00 sequence in it. Stuck at this point although the source of the problem seems to be identified.
  15. X700 and other PCIE ATI Radeon finally work

well editing plist but not patching the ATIRadeon9700 binary didn't work but it comes closer (I have Sapphire X800GTO). I don't freeze after login window on the boot screen. Instead I get a garbled display and a working mouse pointer.
