  1. Hopefully someone can help me here, I accidentally (updated iTunes it updated the OS as well to 10.6.8) and of course my sound is now dead. Other than the sound not working ( no output devices shown ), 10.6.8 works perfect, and of course I can't rollback, no backup made...I know I know, not a good move. Well with that said, hopefully the community can help. So far I've tried, (all done via Single User mode and restarting ignoring caches and running Kext Utility) Rolling back AppleHDA.kext from 10.6.7 (downloaded the combo update and stripped out the kext), didn't work. Following this thread - http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=140941 Tried this 1) vanilla AppleHDA.kext + LegacyHDA.kext + HDAEnabler.kext (or DSDT w/ HDEF injection) for ALC889a/ALC885 - Didn't work ^ all that did was give me a boot loop at the loading screen Anyone have any insight/thoughts on how I can fix my sound? -Joe
  2. Ahh ok, thanks for checking it out, maybe we will get a v4 installer or a update kext -joseph
  3. I thought the same, our setup, not a big deal just thought it was something to point out for everyone. -joseph
  4. Yea, I'm using the settings in System Preferences>Display>mirror mode Ha, yea I ussually just watch movies on one panel, but a friend of mine brought it up to me (also using LH's hackintosh system). Not a big deal since my machine is running flawless, just wanted to utilize both panels for movies.
  5. I'm using the LH guides GFX card - the 9800 GTX I tried using VLC and Quicktime so far. (EDIT I've also used Itune's visualization mode too full screen of course) Is the blue screen normal in mirror mode? I know your using a different video card, do you have this 'blue screen' problem? -joseph
  6. (Random) Quick question: Trying to watch a movie on BOTH my dual monitors, can it be done? A friend suggested setting my displays to mirror mode, but when I do so one of the monitors switches to a blue screen and the other my desktop. <-- Is this supposed to happen? Issue with hackintosh? Am I doing this right? Or is it not possible? BTW: So far my computer has been running flawless! Thanks everyone for the support! -joseph
  7. Little update on a friends build: Turns out it was the Thermal Grease, the little that comes with the processor/heatsink is the minimum. After replacing the MB (2 bad ram slots) and reinstalling processor and fan their just wasn't enough grease, causing it to boot once and then just boot loop w/o a post. (this was after hours of replacing parts). So far its been running without an issue. My Build: Went smooth as butter! Used V3 Installer, had everything built and running under 4 hours. I figured not bad for my first computer build! AND since I read there was issues creating the disk image on a 10.4 machine I had to install Kalyway 10.5.2 on my machine first to create the usb boot drive. Little note, the only setting I had to change to get Kalyway 10.5.2 was in BIOS change the SATA RAID/AHCI Mode to AHCI. After that I just popped in the cd and booted it up! Build specs for reference: Gigabtye GA-EP45-UD3P MB, Q9550 2.83Ghz,4Gigs of G.Skill Ram, LITE-ON Sata DVD, Zalman cooling fan/heatsink, 640Gig WD Caviar Black HD, same network adpater and evga 9800gtx+. Thank you everyone for the help! -joseph
  8. Yea that's what we figured, we are going to pick up some stuff at fry's to test out hardware problems. Weird that it booted, posted and once entered bios froze and now nothing happens. On power up it starts (lights on mb) then shuts off (no post). I hope I don't have these issues when my parts arrive! Also can anyone confirm you have to make the restore (usb drive) on a 10.5 and up machine? Earlier someone mentioned having problems making the restore drive using a 10.4, but I don't know if anyone else encountered this issue. thanks everyone. -joseph
  9. Ok, having some issues, this is the second MB they have tried, first one had two bad RAM slots. Second board installed, first time it booted, frooze entering bios (used a ps2 keyboard, if thats an issue) Any ideas? Motherboard again? Same exact specs as the LH guide, to the T. -joseph
  10. Thank you SBMac and AkronElliott, you guys cleared some things up for me! Hardware is a check: Parts arriving next week Software/Install: This is where the confusion was on which version of the no hack method installer to run, I now understand. This afternoon me and some friends are going to be setting up his hackintosh so I'll let you guys know how it goes! -joseph
  11. First off I would like to thank Stell and Adam for the great guide! I've already ordered all my parts, and I just read through this WHOLE thread and the original (terminal version) LH guide and LH no hacking required guide. One thing I notice reading through this whole thread is all the people posting in here with different hardware! This is confusing as hell for someone building there first hackintosh! Anyway to my question at hand: 1. So far I've read that using the terminal version of the LH guide is the stablest? Which is the best/stablest way to install? 2. If I use the terminal version, do I have to upgrade to the no hacking Halloween package to kill the temp. problems some people have posted? PLEASE feel free to correct me if I'm wrong as I just read this and may be a little confused myself! Thanks everyone! -joseph
