  2. ESXi 5 Mac OS X Unlocker

  3. ESXi 5 Mac OS X Unlocker

Does anyone know how to enter a single user mode ? Usual Cmd+S or S dont work when i hold them down in Console view when machine is powering up. How do you guys repair boot drive permissions ?
  4. Hello Donk, Have you tried this spoof method on ESXi host and see if it "fools" hypervisor into thinking it's installed on real Mac ?! That way we could use vCenter to manage unlocked ESXi host... just wishful thinking :-)
  5. ESXi 5 Mac OS X Unlocker

I've been running patched ESXi host since first Haswell was announced and cant tell difference from unpatched host. On its own, it runs very fine, ESXi and all VMs are behaving as they should. But under no circumstances I would install this at work though. We have bunch of support contracts ( our dept. alone has 2x Essential+ licenses and other depts have Enterprise licenses ) and I cant imagine what VMware support would do if they had found out that this is installed. ( neither I want to see my superiors reaction ) I've also run patched ESXi host under vCenter 5.5 and did not find anything wrong with it. But my VMs are 90% Macs at home at the moment and since you cant do any vCenter actions on patched ESXi host (like clone, vMotion, HA, schedules etc ) I removed vCenter and decided to keep it simple until i decide what to do next (either switch back to Windows 7/Server for my Directory services or wait until new Mac Mini is announced and see if I can do with that - this I doubt since 16GB RAM is not enough )

I'm not sure about Apple on this one... I think they're quite content with Mac Mini being their "Server" part. (which isnt something I'd want for my Server) I hope once ESXi and vCenter takes off with 6.0 version that someone shows interest in giving vCenter unlocker a try. Sorry for my rant :-)
  7. ESXi 5 Mac OS X Unlocker

I hope someone smarter than me comes up with vCenter unlocker as Apple once again ignored releasing "real" Mac Pro. All my PC's are Mac's (even livingroom HTPC with MCE is running on Mac Mini) but I just cant justify buying new Mac Pro for my server. (I still have 2008 Mac Pro but it's even slower than current QuadCore Haswell while consuming 2.5 x times the power ) No iLOM, no internal storage (so good bye VSAN), no RAID, (for server use) useless 100 WATT GPUs .... It's nice workstation but by no means replacement for currently (very old) Mac Pro.

Limitations of the vCenter WebGUI is that you can not power up the Mac Virtual Machine, you can not clone it and you can not use HA or migration features. For powering up VM you'll have to use vSphere client and connect directly to the host. I have my Mac VM to automaticly start-up with the host so I almost never have to do it. If I need to reboot the VM< i just VNC into the Mac VM and reboot the Mac OS within. Unlocker 1.2 did work for me and I'm using vCenter as I use Mac only as a server and i usually just ssh in. Windows and Linux VM's are fully compatible, as far as I tried (ie. you can clone the Windows VM just fine ) Here is the article how to fix the new HTML5 console. http://www.virtuallyghetto.com/2013/09/html5-vm-console-does-not-work-after.html Hope this helps
  9. ESXi 5 Mac OS X Unlocker

I'm happy to report that vCenter 5.5 with Unlocker works same way as it did in 5.1. Same limitations apply (unfortunately) but otherwise it works great. Even HTML5 Console works after you fix silly VMware bug with env. variables. Console works on Windows, Linux and Mac machines and it's much faster and responsive than old Windows Client console. I must add that Web client is resource hungry dog. It's probably due to heavy use of Flash but Its slow and I cant see myself using it at work. I hope VMware switches to HTML5 and Flash dies FAST.
  10. ESXi 5 Mac OS X Unlocker

I had exact problem on yet unpatched host so i do not think it has anything to do with unlocking patch. Its very obvious that Windows Client received next to no love from VMWARE while all efforts were put into the Web Client. ( is it going to be default client in ESXi 6 ? ) Anyway, I've been running 2 Mac VMs and 2 Windows VMs on 5.5 host for 24 hours without any stability problems so far. I've yet to test vCenter install but will do the install this weekend to see if it has really implemented further checks. That would be very unfortunate
  11. Oh that's great. That is the best news. Will get to installing tonight then :-) Thanks !!!
  12. Hello, I'd love to read how-to. Also based on your post, I assume version 1.2.0 Unlocker works on newly released ESXi 5.5 ?
  13. ESXi 5 Mac OS X Unlocker

I just wanted to update everyone about vSphere and about adding a Unlocked host to vCenter ( I was using vCenter Virtual Appliance ) -Settings were accessible and I was able to change all setting for all my Mac VM's via vCenter. -I was able to passthrough EyeTV DTT and EyeTV SAT USB TV tuners and EyeTV software worked as perfect as it did on real Mac Pro. -I was NOT able to turn ON the VM or restart it via vCenter. I either had to VNC into the virtual Mac and reboot it or log into the host and reboot it that way. -I was able to schedule Mac VM to autostart with the host and shut down with the host. It worked as expected. -I was NOT able to clone Mac VMs. This was my biggest let down :-) The reason why in the end I removed the Unlocked host from vCenter ( although I doubt it was a problem of Unlocker ) was that when I shut down the host from within vCenter, i ALWAYS lost access to iLOM ( Intel vPro or AMT ) I've never experienced anything like this but in the end it is easily reproducible. When host was shut down WHILE paired to vCenter, Intel's AMT would become unresponsive after power down. (so I had no way to turn it back on). I've been banging my head for couple of day now and reinstalled ESXi twice and by doing everything step-by-step, pattern became clear. I dont know what kind of power management is built into vCenter but its obviously doing something abnormal with ATX power management because it completely shuts down power to MOBO after power off.
  14. ESXi 5 Mac OS X Unlocker

Thanks for letting us know. I was just about to ask :-) Has anything changed ?
  15. ESXi 5 Mac OS X Unlocker

Reebzor, Thanks for letting me know. I have all my VMs start up automatically after host comes online (set up in vSphere Client ) , would this work ( also does 'cloning OSX VM work' )? (btw, I understand that its unsupported but for my home env. it would be good enough) Thanks MSok, Donk for your work and looking forward to your answers reebzor.
