Asus 1005hab (works for 1005ha) Snow Leopard Install Guide

I use Time Machine on both of my Hackintoshes. 1 netbook and 1 desktop. restoring worked fine on both with no major glitches. Time machine will not restore you're boot loader so you will have to reinstall Chameleon or whatever you use after the first boot. There are instructions on the net how to add an install disc image to your time machine backup drive so that you can both, boot and run Time machine and access your TM backup on the same drive. If you can't find them let me know and i'll take a look :-) you can also access all of your files manually in a TM backup if you just want to snag data. Good Luck!

Asus 1005hab (works for 1005ha) Snow Leopard Install Guide

At startup... Hit the down arriw key when you see the chameleon splash screen. A menu will then pop up. Arrow down to "boot verbose" and hit enter. Then you will see the code. Take a picture of the code when it get's hung up and post it here and we'll try to figure out what's causing the KP: :-) -Mike

Asus 1005hab (works for 1005ha) Snow Leopard Install Guide

Thanks again man. I installed Chameleon 2 RC4 r684 and all is well. It Boots and sleeps fine again. All data is restored. I will report back if I have any other issues related to time machine with fixes if necessary for anyone else interested in using it. At this point, I'd say use it if you have the need but of course like with any hackintosh be prepared to hack! ;-) -Mike

Asus 1005hab (works for 1005ha) Snow Leopard Install Guide

Ok, I assumed the my hack was it's own boot loader because it has it's own splash screen instead of the usual chameleon. Which version of Chameleon do you use on your HAB? The sleep issues seem to be solved since I repaired permissions this just leaves me with the boot loader.... From my limited testing the time machine restore seems to be no more complicated than the initial install but a bit less labor intensive for me, time will tell on the stability. I did not lose any drivers during the restore. All of the mods seem intact.

Asus 1005hab (works for 1005ha) Snow Leopard Install Guide

Thanks for the reply man. The computer was surprisingly stable for a year before the incident. The problem with reinstalling is all of her data that I would have to manually restore after would be a pain. She actually uses it as her main computer so it has a ton of data and pics etc. :-) I may end up going that route in the end but a Workable TM restore solution would be my preference. (especially for future mishaps lol) Have you done any testing with time machine? As far as the boot loader....would you recommend the "my hack" in your 1005hab hackintosh pack on your blog? There are so many versions around it's confusing :-/ Also, is there a sleep enabler kext I should try to install for the sleep issues? Thanks! -Mike

Asus 1005hab (works for 1005ha) Snow Leopard Install Guide

Happy Holidays all :-) My wife's 1005HAB had been running well for about a year at 10.6.4. She accidentally updated the OS while trying to update itunes through software update and bricked it :-( I restored it from Time Machine (what a ruckus!) Now I am unable to get a bootloader to work properly. I tried the MyHack installer 1.0 and 1.1 and also the newest Myhack, Chameleon 2.0RC2 and another version of chameleon. it still fails to boot without using my usb installer drive for the bootloader. after some bootloader installs, it bricks again and I have to restore again. I've been fighting it for a couple days and figured i'd shout out to the experts :-) Any Ideas? can anyone tell me what bootloader will work? the "extra" folder is intact and obviously works.... Also, Sleep appears to be broken now. :-/ Any help is appreciated, as always. Thanks, -Mike

    1005hab graphics and sleep issues

I'm not sure what you mean by "1 finger edge scrolling" do you mean Horizontal scrolling? I had to turn that off because it was annoying.... all of your trackpad gesture settings are in the "trackpad" preference pane in system preferences. You may also find this program useful: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/syst...agefingers.html because these netbooks are so small, accidentally hitting the trackpad is unavoidable IMO. this little program let's you toggle the trackpad click feature on/off by using an icon on your top menu bar. Add it to your start up applications in the user section of control panel and it activates at startup ;-)

No problem, I'm glad you got it working. Just make sure you pay it forward and help someone else out ;-) And........ be sure to make a TM backup.

lol. So Chameleon does not come up at all? you get the flashing underscore first and nothing else? do you get to the boot menu and choose to boot from your external drive, then it hangs? I didn't have to change anything on my HAB but I've seen that on a desktop be4. Check the Bios and make sure that there is nothing called "Quick Boot" or something like that enabled. do you have another computer? for troubleshooting purposes, see if your usb drive will boot on another computer. Then you will know if your problem is your usb drive or something on the Eee. BTW, to save you a TON of time......whenever you get everything (or almost everything) working on a Hackintosh in any version, make a time machine backup so you have something to restore to when/if you botch an update or tweaking something.

    1005hab graphics and sleep issues

I took a look at the guide that you linked in the first post. Personally I find it a bit confusing and lacking specific details. I would recommend these: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...238555&st=0 http://aregularguyincanada.blogspot.com/20...c-1005-hab.html They are very similar and I spent a good bit of time studying them both. IMO, if you were able to get as far as you did from those instructions....you will have NO problem with these. You seem to know your way around pretty well. I'm not at home right now but I can check my Extra folder and get back to you later if you want though you are probably better off re-installing unless someone else can tell you exactly what's wrong. Because you were doing quite a bit of tinkering in there it's hard to tell what is from where.

    1005hab graphics and sleep issues

I'm not familiar with that guide but I'll take a look..... I used a combination of guides for my installation. I'm also assuming that you are using Chameleon 2 as your boot loader...is that correct? If you are Using Chameleon, as well as paying attention to your extensions folder make sure you look in your Chameleon "extra" folder in your root directory. Essential kexts are also stored there.

    1005hab graphics and sleep issues

about the video kexts.... In snow leopard there is no longer a way to tell if you have QE/CI enabled in System Profiler. Apple dropped that after Leopard for some reason. So your driver may be working correctly. check here for some easy QE/CI checks: http://prasys.info/tag/qeci-snow-leopard/ For the sleep issue......Maybe you need to re-install your SleepEnabler.kext? I believe most people with the 1005hab's seem to be posting that they use the same sleepenabler.kext that they used for 10.6.4 for 10.6.5/10.6.6 but I could be wrong........ I'm still running 10.6.4 here and everything is working. Happy Hackintoshing!

Ethernet works fine here on 10.6.4 Did you try re-installing the Atheros ethernet kext?

    unable to make 1005HA bootable

When you say that it runs fine......Is that booting from the external drive? There is a driver for the wireless on this forum if you look around. You'll just have to install it. Mine works fine as long as the router is not broadcasing "N" Without more specific details, I have no idea what you did or did not do. If you did already install 10.6.3 on your internal hard drive and did not swap out the Kernel, then that is your problem. Apple removed support for atom processors at 10.6.3. You will need to replace or patch your Mach Kernel in order to add support for the Atom processor. I used a combination of these two guides for my 1005HAB which is the Best Buy version of the 1005HA. http://aregularguyincanada.blogspot.com/20...c-1005-hab.html http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=238555 It took me a couple of tries to get it right because I was rushing. You just need to take your time and focus. If you still can't figure it out, boot with -v and take a picture of the screen when it hangs. post the picture here and someone may be able to give you a clue as to what is wrong/missing HTH, -Mike
  15. hey if you could do a torrent for it that would be cool.
