Tip: VMWare Tools for OSX as a guest

Thanks ZeckehSoul - didn't know that!
  2. I've just managed to get ML 10.8.2 installed under VMWare Player 5 with no issues. I just converted the DMG into an ISO (using dmg2img in Windows) then plugged it into a unlocked VMWare Player. Performance is good enough to do basic iOS development on too.. Here is my Geekbench score: http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench2/1116188 Some relevant links: Unlocker Thread: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/267296-esxi-5-mac-os-x-unlocker/ VMWare Tools Thread: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/283274-tip-vmware-tools-for-osx-as-a-guest/

Tip: VMWare Tools for OSX as a guest

Another tip - if you are trying to do this within VMWare Player running Mountain Lion, you may run into Gatekeeper not allowing the installation due to "Your security preferences allow installation of only apps from the Mac App Store and identified developers." The following link shows screenshots on how to disable it: http://www.computeraudiophile.com/f11-software/your-security-preferences-allow-installation-only-apps-mac-app-store-and-identified-developers-12789/ Basically you need to go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy. Under General, make sure you have unlocked the settings and then set the "Allow applications downloaded from..." to Anywhere. After the installation you might want to switch back to the previous setting.
  4. If you need to get the VMWare Tools for OS X as guest OS running on, say, Windows 7 - you can download the "darwin.iso" from the software update site directly... http://softwareupdate.vmware.com/cds/vmw-desktop/fusion/5.0.1/825449/packages/'>http://softwareupdate.vmware.com/cds/vmw-desktop/fusion/5.0.1/825449/packages/ Grab the com.vmware.fusion.tools.darwin.zip.tar file. You may want to browse back up to the http://softwareupdate.vmware.com/cds/vmw-desktop/fusion/ level to make sure you've grabbed the latest version of the tools. Once you have the "zip.tar" file (it's only about 2Mb), you can extract it and browse into the archive to find the ISO. Mount the ISO inside OSX and run the installer.
  5. As MSoK suggests - this works fine with 10.7.5. I have Documented my upgrade process here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/268531-workstation-8-and-fusion-4-mac-os-x-unlocker/page__st__260#entry1857266 I now have 10.7.5 + Player 5 running perfectly.
  6. Thanks for the response - I just tried a clean uninstall (remove product, delete folder from Program files, reboot), clean install of Player 5 (install and reboot), then installed the unlocker using a command prompt running with admin prvieleges (right click, run as admin) to execute the install.sh. My 10.7.3 VM booted first time, no errors. Gonna try the 10.7.5 combo update now. Will also try making a 10.8 VM later! Cheers for the unlocker - nice work! Much appreciated.
  7. Did you ever resolve this? I had the same problem, ended up restoring the VM to a backup (thank god I made one!)
  8. I just updated to VMWare Player 5 (Windows 7 host) and my working 10.7.3 Lion guest stopped booting. I have reinstalled 4.0.4 and 5.0 several times, each time with and without the patcher. Has anyone else experienced this? Is the patcher compatible with VMWare Player 5? Ok - just managed to get 4.0.4 back up and running. Clean install, then ran install.cmd within the patcher inside a cmd.exe window which I ran as administrator. Now. Do I dare try the 5.0 update again On a side note - I've updated to 10.7.4 once and it broke horribly. Anyone else had any luck? Is 10.7.5 better/safer? I use the VM for XCode stuff so really need to be on the latest 10.7.x or 10.8...

DSDT Patch Request - HP Envy 17 2101ea

Hi - thanks for the *REALLY* quick response! Much appreciated. I was late back last night so didn't get a lot of time to try that DSDT, but I did install it into my extras folder and tried to boot - however there appears to be a problem... I tried all my usual combinations of -x, -f and -v, but I always ended up with the same result; a black screen. The system doesn't appear to freeze though as the hard drive light occasionally flickers. I would imagine this to be a display issue? Come to think of it I don't remember whether or not I tried GraphicsEnabler - would that be required? As for the cpus=1 issue, I have searched for a kernel mod for HP but haven't seen anything particularly relevant. The only reference I've ever seen to this was when I was playing with DSDTSE and there was a fix for the "cpus=1 issue" which involved deleting any Alias lines from the CPU definition in the DSDT; however I couldn't see any when I tried. Quick question - how do you turn around these DSDT's for people so quickly? Is it experience or do you have a suite of funky tools to help too?

DSDT Patch Request - HP Envy 17 2101ea

Hi, Attached is my "send_me.zip"send_me.zip I have a HP Envy 17 2101ea (Reference Manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02772484.pdf) Spec summary: CPU: Intel i7 2630QM 2.0Ghz RAM: 6Gb DDR 1333 RAM Graphics: - Intel HD 3000 (Vendor: 0x8086, Device: 0x0116, Revision ID: 0x0009) - ATI Radeon 6850 1Gb DDR5 (Vendor: 0x1002, Device: 0x68a8, Revision: 0x0000) Chipset: HM67 It was installed using Chameleon. I have installed Chimera 1.5.4. SMBios is set to MacBookPro8.1 Currently it recognises the Radeon if I boot with GraphicsEnabler=Yes, however it cannot find a kext for the Intel HD 3000. It defaults to 1024x768 (or 1280x1024 if I try to force the native res of 1920x1080 via Chameleon boot plist). I can only with cpus=1 and either -x or -f. *ANY* help appreciated :-)
