  1. It's not exactly an error it just stops booting, It'll get to the (don't remember exact error) "com.apple.boot etc etc etc has dependencies on blah blah blah use only one style." It says this same thing on iATKOSv1ir2 for me but it keeps booting. All of the 10.5.2 disc I've burned just stop booting at this and wont load an installer. It's not that big of a deal to me now because I've figured out how to update properly and am currently running 10.5.3 perfectly and have the sound working. The only thing I haven't tried to fix now is the battery meter(doesn't display, no true power management). With all of that said, I'm glad to see how the installs and setups of these systems (osx86) have gradually gotten easier and easier, I remember all the {censored} I had to go through to get 10.4 tiger versions onto my old poweredge dell servers lol. Along with that I'm glad I don't have to put up with the {censored} of alot of the ati cards as well. Callisto nearly drove me mad way back when. Cheers to OSx86!
  2. I've gotten iAtkos 1.0ir2 installed working fairly well on my dell inspiron 1720 considering this isn't meant to be installed on a pc . My sound currently isn't working OOB, but I haven't exactly been working my ass off to fix it either, I don't expect it will be much of a problem. I do have QE working with my Nvidia 8600M GT via NVinstallerV41 and I'm running at my native res of 1440x900. Ethernet is working with Broadcom drivers but of course, no wireless yet :/As far as update go...I have tried to use the comboupdate from kaly and I can't get it to work, I'm not too sure what the problem is there yet. *side note* I have been having trouble getting ANY of the 10.5.2 installations dvds to even boot into the OS X installer. They usually just stop loading before I can even make it to a GUI. I've tried iATKOSv2, Kalyway 10.5.2, and Leo4all. Each one was burned at low speeds and I also checked to make sure that the md5 was correct etc. Has anyone else been having this kind of problem on with the inspiron 1720s? My hardware is as follows Intel Core2Duo @ 2GHz Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT w 256mb of ram 2GB of ram Intel Wireless 3945 a/b/g Peace
  3. Inspiron 1720 installation problems

That A06 BIOS is strange and almost non-existent, it's like the {censored} child of A07 that no one wants to talk about Dell doesn't even officially support it any more, and I can't download it via support.dell.c*m
  4. Inspiron 1720 installation problems

hmm, that's weird I guess I'll jut wait for a little more until some more common knowledge come out of about installation on the 1720.
  5. Inspiron 1720 installation problems

ok thanks man, will look, I appreciate the help btw :)I did a quick search about the A06 bios and I couldn't find anything anywhere to how I could download it, the only bio versions I can download are A07 (which i have) A04, A01, and A00. This is from dell's support site. This made me curious as to how you have a bios version I cannot get so i did some reading and evidently A06 is only available to the newer inspirons 1720 or something along those lines :censored2: When did you purchase yours, because mine is well over a year old. Sorry, this is just baffling me, and the only thing related to my SATA in my bios is ATA or AHCI, whereas AHCI and ACPI and completely different things as i understand. I was looking on dells site and the 1720 and the 1721 have the exact same hardware except for graphics etc, and the only bios version A06 that i found was for the 1721 so I might try flashing it with that so if you don't hear from me on here for a while.....lol.....it's because my bios is corrupt
  6. Inspiron 1720 installation problems

I've got the brokenstone repost, and I just tried with Leo4allv3, gives me the same error as in kaly and iAtkos. This is starting to {censored} me off man tiger was so much easier to install when i did it a :censored2: year ago. What bios version do you have on your inspiron?
  7. Inspiron 1720 installation problems

turbo memory...? Are you talking about TM on the graphics card? Because I have the 8600M GT, doesn't have TM, and i don't have an option in the bios to disable ACPI. I'm using the bios version A07, are you running the same version or an earlier?I've tried kalyway as well btw and it just freezes after it reaches this message extension "com.apple.driver.acpi_smc_platformplugin" has immediate dependencies on both com.apple.kernel and com.apple.kpi components; use only one style ioapic: version 0x20 vectors 0:23 immediately beneath this message is just a solid cursor and it stays that way, I've left it on for a few hours like that just to check but upon further examination I can hear that the DVD has stopping moving and isn't being read from anymore.Kalyway 10.5.2 btw Did you have to do any special setup for your inspiron to install, Red? anything like the cpus=1 flag or disable multi-core in the bios.
  8. Inspiron 1720 installation problems

    bump* still stuck
  9. Hey there guys, I've been looking over the forums recently for information regarding some of the errors I've been getting while trying to install Leopard. It looks something like this "panic (cpu 0 caller #######) Unable to find driver for this platform ACPI" and after "ACPI" it shows some path to something on the boot dvd. This is as far as I get with it, I can't even get to an installer screen. This is with iATKOSv2 btw. I did find one other post that describes a problem exactly like mine but it is close to dead so I decided to repost. My Hardware is as follows: 2GHz intel core 2 duo 2GB RAM 120GB SATA HD(Set to AHCI in bios) Nvidia 8600M GT My bios is of course standard dell inspiron 1720 bios version A07. I've tried disabling dual core support, flash cache, and other random things. I've tried every kernel and yes I've tried cpus=1. Trying to use the "platform=" tag didn't seem to do anything either. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
  10. I'm having the same problem guys, I don't know what the deal is, tried using iATKOSv2 and Kalyway 10.5.2 in my dell inspiron 1720 and nothing has shown any progress. In kaly it gives me the error you guys described and in iATKOS it gives an almost identical one. It's something like "panic(cpu 0 caller #######) Unable to find driver for this platform ACPI etc etc... Tried everything from vanilla to toh. In the bios i have flash cache disabled along with dual core support. Can't really think of anything else to do at this point and am having trouble finding the answers on here. Everything that i have found in relation to this problem have happened post install for versions of Tiger.

  12. [How To] X800 XL set up with working Display Manager and QE/CI

Having an error now while trying to edit the contents of the MAC OS folder of ATI9700.kext. It's telling me once again that this is a read only when i try to hex edit the contents....I have no idea as to get around it, any help would be greatly appreciated.
  13. [How To] X800 XL set up with working Display Manager and QE/CI

Thanks exscape, using nano did the trick ^^
  14. [How To] X800 XL set up with working Display Manager and QE/CI

When I tried to edit the info.plist in the contents folder in the kext I get an error that I can't re-save because the file is read only. Is there anyway to reset the "read only" permissions on the Radeon9700GA.kext? That's my only hang up so far
  15. Sweet, worked for me, I'm running JaS's 10.4.7 Thank you very much!
