Windows + VirtualBox = MAC OS

Fact is, 'special EFI' is not enabled on my VB and using CustomVideoMode1 was the only thing that allowed me to go full screen at 1440x900x32. Period! The only thing I cant get to work well is Finder doesnt like to Find networked computers. Connect to server works though.

I know what you mean about the screen resolution. I wanted full screen, but was limited to 1024x768 also. I fixed mine some time ago, but I will try to remember the steps. 1. Run cmd.exe to get to a command prompt, then cd to the Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox folder. Then use the following command. VBoxManage setextradata "VM name" "CustomVideoMode1" "1280x1024x32" where "VM name" is the Virtual Machine name . I also ran (dont know what the effect was): VBoxManage setextradata global GUI/MaxGuestResolution any Changing EFI stuff seemed useless. Good Luck!

Guys, Installing Leopard is not for the faint of heart. I have failed and googled sooo many times its not funny. you guys with the commpage panics - the problem is that VB doesnt support the SSSE3 instructions, even if your processor does. So you need to patch your VB with the files presented earlier on this board for SSSE3 support, OR use a distro with a patched kernel. BTW: I dont know if there is a patched kernel for Snow. SATA vs IDE: I have also had very different experiences with distros. I have ideneb 1.3 and some version of iPC. I find that iDeneb is the best for me. When installing iDeneb, somewhere before you hit the install button, you must hit the customize button. Look for ICH Fix or PIIX IDE and select it for install. Doing this will install the kext necessary for Leopard to work with the VB IDE controller.

Doesnt work for me on x64. I get a panic right after ACPI init. I also compared CPU-Z information between 3.1.2 modified and 3.1.4BETA modified- no SSSE3 support in 3.1.4BETA. I have snow working in 3.1.2 x64 modified, but was hoping 3.1.4 would fix the network issues.

10.6.2 Update: I created another VM of snow to test what kext needs to be installed. I found that as long as I have Disabler or NullCPUPowerManager (both even) in the Extra/Extensions folder it updates and reboots. I believe that you MUST run Kext Helper to update the caches and repair permissions before you run the 10.6.2 Update (Combo). Sound: Yep the sound doesnt work all that great. Sometime it boots with sound sometimes not. It also only uses the right speaker. Network: The problem with the network is that OS X cant seem to get the MAC address from VBox. Somewhere back a few posts mrwrx gave us the answer. Its OK once you get used to it. Look for the post, but it goes like this: Get mac address that VBox assigns. Its located in the VB network settings. Load up snow (if its not already). Go to Terminal. Enter ifconfig. It will show you the network info. You should see a en1 adapter. Type in terminal sudo ifconfig en1 ether <MAC_ADDRESS> <Enter> Mac_address should look like - 08:00:27:11:22:33. Go back to VBox network settings and clear the 'Cable connected' checkbox. Hit OK, wait 5 seconds or so, then go back and check the 'cable connected'. You should soon have a network going! For the guys installing Leo: Leopard does not have support for the IDE controllers supported by VBox, so you have to install one. I deneb 1.3 has an option for ICH Fix. Look for PIIX or ICH drivers! If you dont, you have to change your Storage settings to an SATA drive. Problem here is that VBox doesnt support a CDDrive in SATA. My experience anyway! Good luck.

10.6.2 Update: It just occured to me that before I installed the kexts I reinstalled the BSD because the Disk Utility could not repair permissions. See the link from my previous post and look for Disk Utility Permission fix error on how to do it. Pretty sure I used Kext Helper to repair permissions after I copy the kexts to Extra\Extensions though. I am currently in the process of reinstalling Leo to create another Snow install to try it again.

mrwrx I was finally able to update to 10.6.2!!! I dont know exactly what step really fixed the problem but this is what I did: Downloaded the Snow 10.6.2 Combo Update. Shutdown Took a snapshot. Started Snow I went to http://www.taranfx.com/how-to-install-mac-...on-pc-dual-boot site and downloaded the kext, tools, and misc to Snow. I copy AppleRTC.kext, NullCPUPowerManagement.kext, OpenHaltRestart.kext to the Extra\Extensions folder. I did not overwrite the files from Black Trinitron (fakesmc.kext and PlatformUUID.kext) as it appeared that Black Tr's fakesmc was a newer version. I had placed VBMMdevice.kext in System\Library\Extensions previously and decided to move it to the Extra\Extensions folder. The tools folder contains ShowAllFiles application that does Snowutlis.iso does and Kext Utility. I installed the Kext Utility had let it repair the permissions and rebuild the kextcache files. Shutdown Took a snapshot (Did I mention that snapshots are good!) Started Snow again Ran the Update (During this time I did nothing else on the PC but moved the mouse to prevent my laptop from turn off the backlight. This time it got all the way through the update and needed to restart Snow. It rebooted just fine! I then played around with Snow then shut down again to merge all my snapshots. My guess is that the NullCPUPowerManagement.kext made the difference. I couldn't attach the tools.zip file because it was too big, but search this site for Kext Utility to download it. BTW I am trying to build the 64bit version of the network driver but VirtualBox doesnt make this an easy process. Black Trinitron - Should I check out a specific version from SVN to build against? kexts.zip Misc.zip

Wow! Great work. Thanks Black Trinitron and everyone else. Thanks to the VBox people too. My system is Windows 7 64-bit on a Dell Studio 17. I found that I couldnt get Leo to install without the updated 64-bit files. Then I had to play with Leo to get it to see the CD drive due to some ATA/SATA issues. I think I reinstalled Leo (iDeneb 1.3) about 6 times before it worked right and I dont even remember what options I selected. I then installed Snow according to Black Trinitrons instructions. Well except for one thing - I chose to install everything. That was the last time I didnt follow the instructions to the letter. If I remember correctly the HP printer drivers caused the install to fail. I reinstalled - rebooted and was shocked Snow booted. I then created snapshot of snow, played around with networking till I found mrwrx instructions on how to get the network to work. I also had no luck with the software update. The software downloaded and was in the process of installling the update when I got a Kernel Panic. The update destroyed the install so I needed to go back to my last snapshot. I downloaded the VBox code source and noticed that Visual Studio 2003 and 2005 are the only supported versions. Last week I removed 2005 and installed 2008, but if someone else doesnt build the corrected network driver then I will remove 2008 and install 2005. So I went through all this, now I dont know what I will do with Snow Leopard... It was fun anyway!

Darn, cant get Leo to run on Windows 7 64-bit. It installs Ok then KP's very early on startup.
  10. Well, I cant believe it, but it works. I am not sure if the hardware acceleration stuff works because I dont remember how to check it, but I can now change my resolution. Just friggin AWESOME!! I am running it without ATIRadeonX2000.kext installed because it used to really mess things up. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! Dell Studio 1737 ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3640
