1. both will do the job, yes. any computer will. camera raw works very well from the GUI/desktop, so you know from the get go what you'r working with. Then the quality of the displays, to me is pretty big. already calibrated makes a diff. Software like Portraiture or Adobe Lightroom are pretty sweet.
2. i7 new install

Hello, Is tonymac ##### absolutely necessary for a gigabyte GA-X58-USB3 i7 cpu when doing OS update? I understand that for the original install i will have to use 3rd party software, but once it is working, can i not use the Apple Software Update now that they technically support the i7 in their machine? If not. is there a motherboard that would be as compatible as my EP45-UD3P where, i only apply the software update, reboot and voila, working fully, no edit, nothing to do. Thank you
3. i know this should probably go in another forum, but i am selling my dv7. (3180US). quad core, 6gig ram etc etc. let me know if you know someone who might be interested. it currently has 10.6.6 on it. x130844 at something like gmail
4. for the sound, did you need any kexts? or standard apple from the DVD? i had patched my DSDT , but i think i have some conflicting kexts here.
5. Hello, 1st, thank you very much for the work and effort put into this v2 release. One thing that confuses me, my dv7 is almost 100% working. C and Pstates not working. automatic audio switcher (line/speaker). Now, i understand these can be fixed with the DSDT, and i was waiting for v2, hoping for the solution, but i am more confused than anything now. did i miss a document that would fix my dsdt properly?
6. 10.6.7 Update released

just installed 10.6.7, it looks to be slightly faster in geekbench. here's the before and after, after a few tests coz the results fluctuate. Geekbench 32bit: 10.6.6 4918 4932 4940 4943 4944 10.6.7 5093 5072 5083 5078 5087 5074
7. [Q] Install snowleo on Sony Vaio

this is not a [howto] this is a question. and as far as i know, sony vaio have effed up bios and video, so most likely your graphics IF you get it to work won't be accelerated.
8. Hi Guys, what kind of battery do you really get in average? here, from 100% to 15% on the dv7, i7, 50% battery. just browsing the web,. it takes about 1H 40m. is this about right? Everything works great but the battery is killing me. Note that i do not use any cstates/pstates etc, as i can't get that to work on my laptop. Let me know your results!
9. ok, so that was weird, i guess one of the plugin was wrong, i installed them again (not your files) it then worked. weird but who cares!? it works! Thank you so much!
10. so i made the jump and installed 10.6.6 from a very good working 10.6.2. I installed the kext here for 10.6.2 on my 27AE (acer zg5). 1st i want to say that the archive here is packaged weird. i found other kexts inside the kext archive. i assume i had to move the one from within in my /s/l/e anyway, the resolution works fine, beautiful graphics, but NO QE! i am not sure what i could have done wrong. i simply replaced my 10.6.6 original with your 2 kexts files, cleaned the /s/l/Caches. touch /s/l/e still no acceleration. any idea?
11. Hi, for some reasons, the 3 links you gave point me to the same thing, only the main article + list of posts, but no post opened. Anyway, I have tested mutiple chameleon versions, and everytime i have to go back to the one i found the most stable. an older version. and i was made to understand, p-states wouldn't work anyway (at least the last version i had tried, something like last month maybe). maybe there has been progress, that'd be great. Same for the battery, i had seen it, and bookmarked it for later testing, but can't find it anymore. This forum software is not very good, or is broken Can someone update the main article and include the battery kext or trick? that'd be awesome, thx!
12. hmm weird, i just searched again this thread, didn't see any solutions for DSDT or replies. anyway, doesn't matter. here's how i got it to work. 1) your DSDT must be modified. I have a nVidia GeForce GT 230M in this DV7. my PNLF contains: Device (PNLF) { Name (_HID, EisaId ("APP0002")) Name (_CID, "backlight") Name (_UID, 0x0A) Name (_STA, 0x0B) .. it also has in the PNLF, _BCL, BCLP, BCLL, _BCM, _BQC. Then in my GFX0 device , i added in the _DSM, "@0,backlight-control", Buffer (0x04) { 0x01, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00 }, and: "@0,pwm-info", Buffer (0x14) { /* 0000 */ 0x01, 0x14, 0x00, 0x64, 0xA8, 0x61, 0x00, 0x00, /* 0008 */ 0x08, 0x52, 0x00, 0x00, 0x01, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, /* 0010 */ 0x00, 0x04, 0x00, 0x00 }, and "@0,use-backlight-blanking", Buffer (Zero) {}, "@1,can-hot-plug", Buffer (Zero) {}, by then you should have the slider in control panel moving and staying in position, with ioreg you should see the values moving. Then in the Device (LCD) make sure you add: Name (_HID, EisaId ("LCD1234")) I had to add it twice, as i have 2 Device LCD entries. 2) your laptop should reboot fine with the new DSDT, then simply add the GenericBrightness.kexts found in this forum. i put mine in /System/Library/Extensions chown -R 0:0 /System/Library/Extensions/GenericBrightness.kext rm -r /System/Library/Caches/* reboot the machine, it should then work. The slider from system preferences will work. The FN keys are: FN Insert for Sun Down. FN pg-up for Sun Up. everything is working now on this laptop, except the battery uses Voodoo Battery, which works but is unstable. And the Audio doesn't do auto-switching, with the jacksense thing. I have to switch from headphones to speakers. In 32 bit mode, i get a geekbench of around 5400. network/timemachine/ trackpad, blutooth, USB, bluray drive, internal mic(though not very well), video cam, HDMI video etc all work. hope this helps someone. hello, i saw that you got it to work, but only saw the post with the "more info coming soon" or something like that anyway, do you have the c-states, p-states working on your dsdt? that's 1 thing i am missing for this laptop to be perfect. oh, and good battery support! this voodoo battery is too unstable!
13. hmm this is weird i thought you guys would be all over this, but no one seems to give a {censored}, DV7, brightness working (NOT SHADE or other {censored} like this), with the slider in the control panel. yes, again. i got this working..
14. got the brightness to work with the slider and hot key. see my sig for my system. am i the first one?
15. Hello, as long as what you're working on is not generating KPs left and right like Voodoo, i'll be happy, even if the info is not fully accurate.
