  1. Hey guys. Listen, I hate to make threads like this and I know they're annoying to forum regulars, but.. Does anyone have any (reliable) information on the GFX260? I've been trying to search here and either it comes up with no results, or gives me errors. Not sure what the problem is. I've Googled a bit but only come up with smaller forums with people claiming to have it working and then 3 pages of people saying it doesn't work. heh. I've found what appears to be a pretty comprehensive guide for my mobo, but from what I understand either the installer or the reboot after installation will come up with just a black screen with this card. Thus far I've not found anyone (reliable) having the GFX260 working. If you have some bookmarks on this card I'd love it if you'd share them. Thanks, and I hope this wasn't too annoying. I tried to search, I swear!
  2. I'm having a similar mouse issue. Sleeps, comes back just fine.. but the mouse actually starts working backwards! Up, moves it down, etc. Also the tracking is super fast and I can barely control it. Sometimes relogging works, sometimes I have to reboot. Anyone know what causes this or how to get around it? OS X Annoyances

Agreed. I used to not mind it at all, it's just two clicks of the mouse to get to all your programs, rather than navigating through a giant list like on Windows.. but as I've collected more and more programs it's gotten annoying to scroll through them all. Quicksilver and Overflow both help with this. In fact, something like Overflow should be built right into the OS. It's a great feature addition. I couldn't live without it.
  4. The link in the first post in the topic no longer works. I've asked once before if anyone has it or can mirror it so that maybe I can attempt to get this working. Unless there is a way that isn't in the first post..

iTunes 7 - Official Problem Thread

Exactly. I mean, using Photoshop or Dreamweaver I expect and deal with slow performance with the rest of my machine, but thats ok because I'm doing something. If I'm just using iTunes casually browsing the web or whatever, I don't expect that my machine should choke with a spinning beach ball all the time. That's not to say that I'm not greatful for people figuring out how to get it running under Rosetta, but it's just not a solution for me. 6.0.5 is pretty much perfect for my needs anyway. I don't feel like I'm missing out by not using 7.

iTunes 7 - Official Problem Thread

Yeah, but this isn't really a solution. It is entirely too slow to run under Rosetta on my computer. Some of those with 3ghz processors and 1 gig+ ram might be able to get away with it, but on my 1.6ghz Pentium-M this is a no go.

I would reinstall 7, appzap the full install, then install 6. That's what I did.

Does this work for Hackintosh? I notice there are 'things that need to be run in Open Firmware at boot', but I don't know if that is an Apple specific hack, or if it's required by the OS for hibernation.
  9. Anyone? I'd like to give this a shot but the link is, apparently, dead.

iTunes 7 - Official Problem Thread

If anyone is still having problems getting it running under Rosetta on an SSE2 machine, try this: In a terminal cd into /Applications then run the ditto command found earlier in the thread. ditto -arch ppc iTunes.app iTunesPPC.app If you just try to open iTunesPPC you'll get an error, but if you Right Click -> Show Contents -> Contents -> MacOS and then double click iTunes it'll open a terminal and iTunes will launch properly under Rosetta. I tried issuing the exact same command from a terminal that is issued when doing the above and it gave me an error. So for now you have to use that long-ish method to get it working. I'll probably stick with 6 until the SSE2 issue is worked out. 7 does look pretty nice, though.

    OS X Annoyances

Not to nitpick, but it isn't how "Linux" handles them, it's how KDE handles them. Personally I hate those big ugly tooltips in KDE, in fact, I hate most of the "features" in KDE. That is why I used Gnome. Gnome is a lot more elegant. Those huge ugly tooltips in KDE would look horrible in OS X. OS X is combination of elegance and usability; even if a big huge tooltip with file sizes and thumbnails provides the information you want, they would totally clash with the OS X environment. That being said, I also dislike that multiple files open multiple Info windows. As a workaround, I copy files into their own directory and get the info on the directory itself rather than the individual files. It just takes a second or two more to copy files to a temp dir, but I agree that you shouldn't have to do that.

Tips to Speedup OSX load Times

I get the same thing when loading apps under Rosetta with an GMA900. Usually if you move it around, or cover the app with a window and move it off the colors will go back to normal. If by "Adobe products" you mean Photoshop I know that is running under Rosetta. Also if you're opening a browser under Rosetta so that Flash will work, same thing. VLC does have a native Intel binary so try looking for that, the performance is (obviously) much better.

You are my hero. Why I didn't think to look for a little app to do it I don't know. Probably because it's such a basic thing that I've done on both Windows and Linux I thought I had to be missing something by not knowing. Thank you so much.

I was asking about that earlier in the thread. I really dislike that when I close my lid, the laptop goes to sleep. Someone here said there was a way to change that, but I can't find any mention of it, and they never replied about how to do it. Even Google searches turned up nothing on the subject, except for other people that disliked this action as well. Why do I need to close my lid? Well, like I said, I have cats. If you don't understand what that means, you don't have cats.
