  1. I had skimmed through the readme and found 'Turn off jornaling', but I missed the 'Journaling is left intact and is too useful to disable.' part in the first paragraph. Just forget I said anything
  2. I liked most of the tweaks, but there is one I can't really agree with: journaling is not about performance, but about reliability and failure tolerance. I never want to go back to the Win98 days where a shutdown was guaranteed to corrupt the filesystem (the unjournaled FAT32).

  4. Probably, but the colors are doubtful anyway: why not go for silver, light blue, or even green (to match the Chameleon logo lol)?
  5. Was I the only one that hated that yellow-ish color? The theme would be much better with something more neutral that didn't remind of vomit.

    @gsw953: There are two operational modes for SATA controllers. One is AHCI, which requires drivers and OS support, and allows full use of the protocol. The second is IDE emulation mode, for older operating systems, which is what most motherboars default to. @epicvengeance: Your motherboard's southbridge (ICH7) does not support AHCI, at least according to Wikipedia. I didn't know P41/G41 motherboards had chips that old. I guess you won't be able to make full use of a Vertex 2. You could still do some more research, found out the maximum speed you can actually get, and see if it's worth it.

    The only thing missing in OS X (on real Macs too) is TRIM support, that tells SSDs what sectors are free for better internal bookkeeping. Most newer drives have some other method for taking care of said issue (internal garbage collecting), and Sandforce drives like the Vertex 2 are pretty resilient anyway. I wouldn't worry very much about that though: you'll get amazing performance unless you intentionally torture the drive by doing random writes all over it.

    SSDs are pretty much the best you can get to help boot times and application launching. Your motherboard does have SATA 3gbps (300MB/s), so the Vertex 2 would be a great choice.

  11. I installed Snow Leopard after Windows and also had trouble with bootmgr. What happens is that Windows installs its boot files in the first connected HDD, not the one where the \Windows folder is. Which means that if you try to boot from the Windows partition through Chameleon, some needed files will be missing. What I did to fix things was re-install the aforementioned files through the Windows installation DVD. Boot from it, go into 'Repair your computer', and open the command prompt. Find out what the letter of your Windows partition is by running: diskpart list volume exit After you find it, run the following commands, replacing 'Z:' for the correct letter, and 'en-us' for your language code: bcdboot X:\Windows /l en-us /s Z: /v bootsect /nt60 Z: /force Exit the prompt, the installation environment, then reboot and see if things work.
  12. Boot times for you Hackintosh

    The best way to improve boot times is an SSD. My computer is slightly outdated (Core2Duo @ 3.6GHz, 4GB of RAM), but with an SSD, it flies: 10s from power-on to end of POST 10s from POST to desktop (including start-up apps.) And it's not even a fast SSD (OCZ Solid 2 60GB @ 200/120MB/s) for today's standards (a 64GB Crucial C300 gets 300/70MB/s).
  13. Install XCode from your OS X DVD, open the .xcodeproj file with it, then hit 'Build' in the main menu.
  14. Sorry another Panic error

    When you get a KP in verbose mode, a list with the contents of the CPU registers and some of last called function's addresses is printed. If the crash happened in a kernel extension, you'll get yet another list with the names of the kexts that successively called into each other until something went wrong. Here is a random example I found on Google showing a crash on the audio drivers:
