  1. Hello all, Just want to post some updates to this build (if anyone's interested). I've gone with the i5 route since I think it's more "future-proof." Here's the spec: Processor: Intel Core i5 750 Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P55-USB3 VGA: Gigabyte GV-N210D3-512I (GeForce 210, 512MB GDDR3) RAM: Kingston DDR3-1333 SDRAM 2GB x2 HDD: Western Digital WD5000AAKS 500GB PSU: Enhance 350W Case: I got some spare cases from my friend's office. They make computer cases. *Note/Warning on motherboard: I originally got a GA-P55-UD3L (rev 2.0). BUT THEN I FOUND OUT STARTING FROM REV 2.0, THESE BOARDS USE H55 CHIPSET INSTEAD OF P55. (Excuse me for the CAPS) Just want to let anyone who want to use that board to check the revision! Just finished putting them together and tried some stuff. Will update more after I got the system installed and everything set up. Hopefully it will go smooth!
  2. Since I'm buying parts outside of US. So the parts I mentioned aren't the most popular ones for building. Well if you are interested in an i5. I think you should swap the following: VGA: NVIDIA GeForce 9400GT or better Motherboard: Gigabyte P55M-UD2 (best compatibility so far and the most popular among others I think from what I've read) and you might want to add another stick of RAM and that would probably still in the 500-600 range. You can find everything on Newegg, that's where I checked my price.
  3. Thanks! I was out of town for a few days. I'll go with my original build then. Will order the parts by the end of the month. I'll update once I start to build it.
  4. Thank you for the response! Well I've looked a bit about the Core i5 build, but I couldn't beat the 150 price difference... Graphics isn't really important here since we'll be mainly focus on iPhone application development. The original E6500 based: Processor: Intel Pentium Processor E6500 - 83.99 Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-G41M-ES2L (rev 1.1) - 59.99 VGA: Gigabyte GV-N95TOC-1GI (9500GT with 1GB GDDR2) - 64.99 RAM: A-DATA DDR2-800 SDRAM 2GB - 44.99 HDD: Western Digital WD5000AAKS 500GB - 55.99 PSU: FSP Group Blue Diamond II 350W - 34.99 Case: CoolerMaster Elite 341 - 39.99 Subtotal - 384.93 (I had to change a couple of things but this is the finalize build) Core i5 based: Processor: Intel Core i5 750 - 199.99 Motherboard: MSI P55M-GD45 - 119.99 VGA: MSI NX8400GS-D512H - 34.99 RAM: A-DATA DDR3-1333 SDRAM 2GB - 49.99 HDD: Western Digital WD5000AAKS 500GB - 55.99 PSU: FSP Group Blue Diamond II 350W - 34.99 Case: CoolerMaster Elite 341 - 39.99 Subtotal - 535.93 Anyone has any idea? Or else I will go with the original E6500 build. Thanks!

    TeamViewer not working on 10.6.2

By faking a serial number (which makes the hack looking more like a real deal) in SMBIOS, I can use TeamViewer just fine.
  6. Hello all, My friend is taking a course on iPhone development but she doesn't have a Mac. She's thinking about building a hack for the class since she has a pretty limited budget to spend. Anyway here is the spec that we put up: Processor: Intel Pentium Dual-Core E6500 - 83.99 Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-G41M-ES2L (rev 1.1) - 59.99 VGA: Gigabyte GV-NV94TOC-1GI (NVIDIA GeForce 9400GT w/ 1GB DDR2) - 58.99 RAM: 2 sticks of Transcend 2GB DDR2-800 - 82.99 HDD: Western Digital 500GB SATA2 WD5000AAKS - 55.99 Power and Case not added yet We are aiming at a 350~400 budget. Is there any better recommendation? Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!

    MSN Messenger on Mac

This is what I do too. I always have a VMWare running Windows XP open so I can do some stuff like using webcam with WLM and opening weird Word files that won't open correctly in OpenOffice. For regular MSN I use Adium tho, best IM app IMO.
  8. == EDIT == Ah well nevermind about the issue. I've managed to have more than 5 posts now by replying to others. Thanks anyway! Hello there, I can't create a new topic and I've been registered since July 2006. I was trying to post in Buying Advices about a new hack I'll be building and got the permission error thing and I thought my account was banned because I only read and rarely post! Then I found this, so the question is: Am I qualified to create new topics? Thanks.

    Sharp Copier/Printer Networking Problem

Maybe the driver you used doesn't support network printing? I have a Canon IP4200 and it can print fine using Canon's driver with USB cable. But I have to use Gutenprint's driver for it to print over the network. Maybe you can try Gutenprint's driver for your RX595 see if it work for you.

Starcraft all the way! And now looking forward to Starcraft II. Too bad SC2 beta aren't for Macs yet.
