Wowfunhappy got a reaction from C.Frio in OS X is only recognizing half of my RAM.
Hello! I got OS X 10.11.1 El Capitan up and running on my Z170 system yesterday. Aside from some minor issues with Ethernet and sound (both of which I was able to work around) everything is pretty much great.

There is however one problem that I don't understand: I have a single stick of 8 GB DDR4 RAM installed on my computer. OS X, for whatever reason, thinks that I only have 4 GB of RAM installed.

Windows has no problems detecting and using the full 8 GB.

What on earth could be going on here, and how can I troubleshoot the problem? I'm not sure how to proceed. Let me know if you need any more information. Thank you so much!

You do know you don't need a custom DSDT to use that patch, right? Just put the patched SSDT into your EFI partition (I don't remember the exact path atm, but it's in the readme).

I don't want to dissuade you from creating a custom DSDT, just be aware that if your goal is to get NullEthernet working, there is a muuuuuch easier method.

6700k still has better single core performance than the 5820k, though. If you want the best IPC possible, while still maintaining significantly better multi-core performance than the 6600k, the 6700k seems like a good choice.

Can confirm—ethernet seems to be working great!

Edit: I'm not sure if this is normal OS X behavior or not, but I figured it's worth mentioning: When I first added the ethernet interface in System Preferences -> Network, OS X insisted that the ethernet cable was unplugged. This did not change until I hit "apply".

I just wanted to let you know that I started work on version 2.1.0 which is based on Realtek's driver source 8.040.000 and will add support for the latest members of the RTL8111 family including the RTL8111H.

Currently the driver lacks support for the RTL8111H. I will update it as soon as possible to add support for this chip found on recent boards.

OMG, I fixed it. It was such an easy fix, I can't believe I couldn't figure it out until now.

In Clover Configurator, I added the following (click the plus sign):

Obviously, change these values based on your RAM.

YOU MUST FILL IN ALL VALUES. It's okay to put in "Unknown" for some fields (I did, as you can see), but everything must be filled in. This is what stopped it from working when I first tried several days ago.

(I'm sure you could accomplish the same thing with textEdit instead of Clover Configurator.)

This worked for me, thank you!

Although I have to say, VoodooHDA was working quite well. It's come a long way; I remember when I made my first Hackintosh years ago, VoodooHDA was always causing kernel panics and generally didn't sound great. There's really nothing wrong with it now.

Wowfunhappy got a reaction from Nasco in Clover with Mac skylake CPU support?
As I said before, this is happening to me too. You aren't alone.

Just as a side note, discussion of #####/other tools or guides from that website isn't really allowed here.

Isn't that weird though? What would it work in the Skylake iMac but not for us?

Wowfunhappy got a reaction from Andres ZeroCross in Osx for i5 6600k z170 ?
Would you be willing to give more details on this? Bootloader, settings, etc?

My computer crashes (reboots) so early in the boot process that the verbose doesn't even have time to display anything useful. The screen quickly flashes:

OsxAptioFixDrv: Starting overrides for .IABootFiles\boot.efi
Using reloc block: yes, hibernate wake: no
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++_

...and then reboots.

This is on an i5 6600k using Clover.

Any and all guidance is appreciated. Not expecting full or even good performance, just something.

Edit: FWIW, I've managed to get past this screen via persistence (ie, keep rebooting and it eventually works). However, I'm still getting kernel panics later in the boot process, and the above error (in addition to another "out of memory" one  that sometimes decides to pop up) is making experimenting via trial and error very, very difficult.

@PJALM, I'd still appreciate any and all information on how you managed to boot via Skylake. Bootloader, arguments, whatever... any and all tidbits you can dig up/recall would be a world of help!
