1. well I re-did the harddrive as I though I might have messed up the partition table and reinstalled my main HD and my EFI partition and got the same problem. I re-did the HD again and this time used an older backup from a known working time. Still wouldn't boot (and would still give the wierd error on the bootloader saying it could load one of the theme files). Then I tried with 1 stick of RAM and oh my days, it worked! Huzzah! I hear you cry... Well here is where it gets a bit weird for me (maybe not for you?). My laptop has 2 memory slots. Both memory chips (each 4gb) both work fine in BOTH slots INDIVIDUALLY. But when put together in any order the start making everything behave all frelling wobbly like! Has any one heard of this before? I dont really know what the problem is as both work on their own in either slot? Should have remembered when everything starts going weirdly strange... look at ya RAM.
2. Hi Guys, Was wondering if anyone could help me with the problem I am having as I am quick running out of ideas... Basically I went to shutdown my laptop (running 10.6.8) down and when I turned around it was booting back up again. Then it Kernal Panic'd. The weird thing is that when the bootloader goes it says that it can't locate the background for the theme I am using. I didn't even have the EFI mounted previously (this is where the bootloader, dsdt, extras etc are). The fact the bootloader is loading must mean its seeing the partition ok. I have scanned it with a tool from Parted Margic and fixed a couple of CRC errors that were there. But I could also fully access the partition from there and checked all the files which seemed to be fine.a Now no matter how I try and boot I get a kernal panic on IOPlatformExpert.cpp:1387 with a message that it cant find the something for that device. I can't think of anything I was doing before the problem started that could have caused this. I have even tried booting with the latest ##### and that didn't work either (possibly dodgily burned). The only things I can think left to do are copy over a backup of the files themselves to see if this solves the problem (assuming it is something wrong with the EFI partition). If its not the EFI what could be causing this? Have googled around a lot and not get very far or found any solutions. Many Thanks xac
3. You can copy the Gfx files after you have updated but BEFORE hitting the button to reboot. Saves you faffing in command line. You can also use something like kext helper b7 to easily install the gfx kexts which sorts all the permissions out for you too.
4. Whoop whoop!! Thought I would try updating again on the chance that this might work, and it did! from 10.6.2 up to 10.6.6 , dvi-hdmi working and full QE/CI. Even updated my bootloader on the EFI drive to latest chameleon. Nice. Thanks a lot to everyone helping on this thread and to the poster above for easy access to files.
5. little hangs when using itunes

You could follow all that.... Or just rename a kext... can't remember its exact name but its something along the lines of UpstreamUserClient.kext just rename it to upstreamuserclient.kext.disabled and your good to go EDIT: Its called AppleUpstreamUserClient.kext
6. Been following this thread closely in the hope someone might pop in with my gfx card but seems I am in a major minority when it comes OSX with my hardware... I was wondering if any of you with more knowledge than I could confirm/suggest a method for me to get my external monitor working with the latest update (10.6.5) , currently stuck on 10.6.2. I have a GTX285m (mobile) GPU and have seen various methods working for people but with different cards and I am not sure how or if these cards relate to mine at all... Any help would be greatly appreciated!
7. XFX GTS250 DVI:HDMI -> TV = Freeze

Yup same problem here with gtx285m when using anything above 10.6.2. So i just stick with that. Not ideal but cant live without my ext. monitor.
8. Alternative NVIDIA 10.5.6 Quicktime 7.55/7.6 Mouse Lag Fix

Was having this problem with gtx285m and 10.6.2, using the unload and rename method mouse is now instantly better!! Thank you for your help guys, I can now use itunes again without getting pissed off. Much love x
9. Hi guys! having an annoying problem trying to get an M-Audio Firewire Solo sound card working. It has worked a couple of times before bit now it doesnt work at all. The system profiler see's it under FireWire and see's it as Firewire Solo but the system and the M-Audio app are unable to see that its plugged in. I've had it working using both my internal firewire card and a Firewire Express card but neither seems to work all or even most of the time. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Much love, Matt (Running 10.6.2 with latest M-Audio drivers 1.9.3. Connecting with 6-4 pin FW cable and with Power plugged into the device)
10. Hi everyone (c: So my system has been running fine for ages and now all of a sudden the bootloader hangs .... it doest get past: Loaded HFS+ file: [system/Library/CoreServices/System Version.plist] I dont remember installing any software really and if I did it wasn't anything major and did not do any updates of any kind? Have tried safe mode and Wake=n but nothing seems to get it working. Even using the ##### CD to boot the partition it just hangs. Any ideas? Thanks and much love, Matt SOLVED- Fixed it in the end by plugging the HD into my old CrackBook and going to diskUtility and varifying then repairing the disk
11. Geforce G210M

Neither, GraphicsEnabler is built into the boot loader. Uninstall both kext's.
12. fermi/gtx 480/gtx 470

DX is a microsft thang....
13. Any one have any ideas how I can get round this problem with my gtx285m? The closest I have got is by using NVEnabler and old 50HAL and Resman kexts and booting with -x which game me correct res and allowed my DVI port to work but no QE/CI and some graphics problems (white space in Chrome was black). Would really like to upgrade but stuck on 10.6.2. Thanks x
14. Hi All, I am trying (once again) to get my gtx285m working with 10.6.4. Havent had much luck except now I am using GraphicsEnabler, Resman and 50hal kexts from 10.6.1 and booting in safe mode (-x) graphics seem to work as does my DVI out. Previously with standard 10.6.4 drivers and GraphicsEnabler system would freeze upon plugging in the DVI cable. What does this all mean? What is -x flag doing that now enable my graphics to work? Any help muchly appreciated! Matt
15. Anyone tried 10.6.4 with the new drivers NVidia have released to cure this problem?
