  1. Built this rig a couple years ago. After about a year it started hanging at the ACPI controller on boot. It will continue, but requires waiting 10-15 minutes. I also have intermittent issues with the DVD drive either not being recognized or malfunctioning. I'm wondering if these issues are related. Around this time, it also started hanging intermittently (spinning wheel) while being used. I've searched but haven't found a solution to my issue. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks, Matt
  2. S.M.A.R.T. status says: verified.
  3. After a full year of stellar performance on my OSx86 Snow Leopard (Stell's Build), I am now getting an intermittent spinning wheel that freezes up the system. Typically lasts 1-2 minutes. I will also sometimes hear HD access while this is occurring. It is not associated with any particular application. I checked my disk and it needed repair, so I did that, it still happens. Is this a virus, spyware, hd failing? Thanks, Matt UPDATE: Noise coming from the case during spinning wheel freeze-up has changed. It does not sound good. What are some signs of pending hd failure? Are there any test apps I can get?
  4. My build is running flawlessly except I can't get the cd drive to open. When I press the button on the drive, nothing happens. Do I need to get a mac keyboard so there is an eject button on the keyboard?
  5. It sounds like you are having the exact same problem I had. I thought the heatsink was seated properly too. I realized its really important to push down the pins opposite each other. Before, I went in a circle and even though it seemed like it was seated correctly, when I pulled it off, only half of the thermal compound was smooshed. I would take off the heatsink and then put it back on, maybe with some arctic silver instead. I just got some, though I don't think its necessary because mine is running fine now.
  6. Stell, everything is running great but I just noticed my System Profiler is saying my cpu is only running at 2.07 when it is the same 3.0 that was listed in the article. This is the first time it has ever been like that in this build. It's not set like that in the bios. What might it be? Edit: I went back into the bios and the 9X had dropped down to 6X automatically. Is this because my cpu was getting too hot? I check temp and system temp was 39 degrees C while the cpu was bouncing between 61 and 64. Edit 2: the heatsink wasn't fully seated. Now it's idling at 51 to 53 while in the bios, system temp still 39. Is this normal? Fan speed was about 1500 I think. One thing I noticed was in the bios settings on the first screen, on the screenshots it says: CPU Vcore 1.2375V [Auto] Mine says: CPU Vcore 1.2500V [Auto] I can change it to 1.2375V but then it is no longer auto. I have a feeling this is where the issue is. BTW these readings are from the bios so it was idle. I don't want to think about what it was at when I was installing apps. Thanks for your help. Matt
  7. Thanks Stell, you're awesome. Everything is working, this is so dope. Thanks for making it so easy for us. I want to give you some money.
  8. Hey All, So glad I found this thread. I have the exact same setup that Adam used and I am having two problems: 1. ethernet card not recognized. System Profiler doesn't say its there. 2. video driver - do I need to install a kext? which one? The resolution is stretched and huge. I also used the no hack method. Thanks! Matt
  9. Hello, This is my first build and I went off Adam Pash's walk through on Lifehacker. I have the exact same setup. SL is running but I am not able to get the network card to be recognized. It does not even show up in the System Profiler. I am trying to use the R1000 kext right now, no success. Thanks for your help. Matt
  10. After screwing unsuccessfully with the BBCode for half an hour to make a nice list with links, here is the Wishlist Any advice would be appreciated. I am looking for a dual monitor setup. 11. I am looking to build a box from scratch and I don't have any components purchased yet. At first I was going to go EFiX but then I read about boot-132 and then was lead on iPC, Chameleon, and Universal OSx86 Installer. Can someone tell me if I have this figured out right? iPC is a cracked version of OSX? Chameleon is the interface that allows you to boot multiple OSs? Universal OSx86 Installer makes it easier to configure and install boot-132? Thanks, Matt
