  3. Restoring a partition from a .DMG file

Now it is clear that the thing that does not go well is that the image does not have a format but its possibly a block by block copy of the volume here is what asr says to me: sudo asr restore --source /Volumes/MACCLN/MACOSX.DMG --target /dev/disk0s2 --erase --format HFS+ --noverify Validating target...done Validating source... Could not detect format of volume on device /dev/disk1 Could not validate source - error 254 What can i do? How can i restore a block by block image? Is there any way to properly do this?
  4. Restoring a partition from a .DMG file

I've just discoverd some things: In Disk Utility the image information at the bottom of the window says: Partition Map Scheme: No partition map Why is that? Here i have to notice that my drive is MBR partitioned And since i cant mount the image (propably because it cant find any partitions in it) i did the following: sudo hdiutil attach /Volumes/MACCLN/MACOSX.DMG -nomount and sudo dd if=/dev/disk1 of=/dev/disk0s2 with disk0s2 being the new MACOSX volume which i have unmounted or else the dd gave me resource busy Will this work? I still cant understand why dd is taking soooo long. The disk activity is just 2MB/s The image file is 60GB by the way.
  5. Greetings everyone I am really left off right now. I wanted to expand the size of my OSX partition so i made an image of it using Disk Utility from iDeneb 10.5.5 disk (i booted and opened the Disk Utility) and that created a DMG image file which i saved to another HFS+ partition on the same drive. I deleted the OSX partition and reformated it with osx extended journaled and booted again with iDeneb 10.5.5 to restore the partition image to the newly formated mac os extended journaled partition. I select the DMG and as destination the new partition, click restore and BOOM, the disk utility says: Could not validate source - error 254 What can i do? I've encountered the same error message before when trying to restore a vanilla OSX dvd to a hard drive partition. I never figured out why this is happening and im really left off right now because i have valuable files into this partition (which seems to be just a DMG file now..) Im desperately seeking for assistance
  6. Atheros AR5005(G)

Thank you very much for the updated kext mate Still can't connect without using network diagnostics utility though... The airport icon way says connection timeout.. Will it ever be figured out why this is happening? Can you share the kext with us?
  7. Hello again I finally set-uped my system with dualbooting WinXP - MacOSX Leopard.6 and everything is working fine! All i need now is: An updated usb boot drive (with latest chameleon or whatever stuff it uses, i think it would be better if we'll be up-to-date) (SOLVED it was my mistake and a fix for shutdown - restart. It was working till i installed the Radeon HD48xx drivers. Till then when i shutdown - restart the system remains on power and only my monitor switches off. Cant think about what can have changed with the HD48xx driver.. SOLVED it was my mistake) Anyway a big thanks to anyone involved in this project and especially Robert_XeS for making this wonderful guide
  8. ASUS P5Q PRO Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 I installed Retail MacOSX 10.5.6 but suddenly issues appeared. Well, first of all i installed the new HD48x drivers from 10.5.7, the acceleration seems fine but my screen flickers every 10 or 7 seconds. I dont know why.. Second, I unmounted the bootable usb flash drive and without a confirmation message I unplugged it from USB. A warning message appeared that was saying about danger blablabla. After that my USB drive is not bootable anymore. Do i have to leave the drive mounted all the time when running OSX? Trying to boot from HDD for logging in to Windows is not possible. The MBR displays an error (if you want to know the error let me know to take a pic). Now im writing through the PartedMagic liveCD and im running Linux Is there any way to fix MBR or make the USB Bootable again from here? (i mean from PartedMagic liveCD) I need your precious help mates! Million thanks

  10. Since I'm new to this project, can you give me more details about this? PC-EFI is a bootloader or something? And when you say you boot up off the drivers from there you mean you dont install the drivers in the system but alternatively load them up on the boot sequence? Why is this better? Thanks
  11. I mean mounting 10.5.6 to the partition with iDeneb and then install 10.5.6 from the mounted partition. Doesnt this work? Mounted partition really needs to be 10.5.4?
  12. Hello guys and a really BIG thanks for all your efforts and for this great community. I have the following setup: Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 ASUS P5Q PRO My question is: I have the 10.5.6 retail disk. Can I follow the same procedure and install macintosh with the 10.5.6 image? Then will I need to do any further updates? Software update really works with this? Will it install all updates without any problems for ever? Also except the LAN driver lack is there any other serious problems with this? Which fixes am i gonna need? Also, i dont know if this could help, but i've found the Atheros Partners driver downloads page. Can this be helpful for making an atheros compatible driver for mac? The address is hxxp://partner.atheros.com/Drivers.aspx Im really sorry for my awful english Greetings from Greece Logic rules
