    Help Installing OSx86 on a Gateway P-7805u

If you take out the cd and reboot what happens? Maybe your boot order is just set to read the cd first....

iATKOS 5i keeps telling me to restart

It sounds like what is commonly referred to as Kernel Panic. When you reboot you should see a screen telling you to press a key to enter boot options (something to that effect). From that screen you can type (no quotes) '-x' for safe mode, which essentially boots with less .kext files (drivers) in order to troubleshoot problems. You can also type '-v' at that screen and it will scroll through the lines on your screen for each action that is started while booting. This will show you what process the system is freezing up on as it boots. You can also use '-x -v' to help narrow down problems sometimes. Reply back with your system specs, what install options were selected, and what line the system is freezing on and you may get some feedback.

Define working.... It goes to sleep, but does not remember to wake up I don't know if this worked before the 10.5.6 update or not, and I haven't really spent any time troubleshooting it.

    Help Installing OSx86 on a Gateway P-7805u

Ok, so I downloaded camtwist here http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/24275/camtwist (Thanks ONJ88). After I installed the application and opened it, my webcam started working in photo booth, but only if I enable PIP in camtwist. There is also about a 5 second delay when viewing the camera in photo booth... Camtwist correctly recognizes the camera as "Gateway USB 2.0 webcam" which leads me to believe it should work without cam twist it is just a matter of someone smarter than myself figuring out how

    Help Installing OSx86 on a Gateway P-7805u

Webcam I am thinking should be a possiblity. I saw it work on one of my many installs (I used it to take a snapshot for the user account icon), so I was kind of surprised it is not working for me now. When I try to take the snapshot now, the light goes green, but nothing is captured. As far as I know it is a usb device, so maybe disabling the legacy usb has some impact there??? Has anyone tried enabling legacy USB to see what happens with the overall system? I am going to give that a shot tonight just for the heck of it. If not, I will start to research what other options we have to try to get the cam up and running correctly.

Chop5t1ck... I am wondering if there is any noticable performance boost doing the install the way you described... If you get a minute run the openGL viewer tests and see what kind of results you get. I ran it with 'benchmark' and 'transparency' selected and on the 2.1 test was seeing 55 FPS, it would be interesting to compare. Onj88... have you heard what the compatability is like with that Airport card and the gateway bios... Are there Windows / Linux drivers available for it? I would like to use an internal card at somepoint, but I don't want to take a step backwards with other OS's. The intel card that shipped with the laptop does have a linux driver available...

NVIDIA 9 Series Driver Installer v2

Thanks to Onj88 for finding this solution.... Finally got QE/CI working ...here`s the steps... 1) delete efi string from your com.apple.boot.plist 2) download nvinstaller v.52 from http://scottdangel.com/blog/?page_id=20 3) install nvinstaller and during installation choose 512mb ram option do not choose go/mobile option, it gives black screen. 4) Reboot using -v -f flags and The nvidia 9series v2 drivers are still required in 10.5.5, but qe/ci is working and I am getting 55 fps in openGL 2.1 so I am pretty content Downloading quake 3 demo now to give it a test run.

    Help Installing OSx86 on a Gateway P-7805u

onj88 you da man! I just benchmarked this thing at 55 fps on openGL 2.1 with transparency enabled! I am well happy now! I am having some trouble with webcam as well... not that I really care, but I am running out of stuff to troubleshoot with your help Just as an FYI this NVInject fix still requires the 9000 v2 drivers mentioned earlier in this thread. I have been working on a fresh install, and had not installed the 9 series drivers. Following the NVinject install, no changes were shown until I installed 9000 series v2. Another side edit.. to get 'About this Mac' to display the correct ammount of memory, use plist editor and open the NVinject.kext > Contents > Info.plist file. Find the key that says 'VRAM,totalsize' (under IOKitPersonalities > NVinject > entries to Add) The value will show as "data" in Plist edit as 00000020, change it to 00000040 . I don't know that this really affects performance as my benchmarks did not change, but it is nice to see it correctly.

    NVInject Installer? Right method?

/where does one find the NVInject installer... I am finding the kexts, but most of them are modified for a specific card... I am trying to get QE/CI on my 9800m GTS 1GB but no luck so far...
  11. Eerie try this for audio it is a real hack job but it worked for me: I was also able to get audio working using these instructions: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=140869 . I attempted to install the AzaleaAudio.kext unmodified prior to using the one listed in the link above, and after running the package from the link, I had to manually copy and paste everything in the 'contents' folder over to my ./extensions/AppleAzaleaAudio.kext file. I then reregistered the file rebooted and audio output is working. Input shows no devices found, but I have not plugged in a Mic so that may be all there is to it. The function keys and volume slider on the laptop also work to control volume! I'm going to play around with NVinject today... is there a specific version you used? Where did you download?

There are a few threads floating around on the 7811fx and 7805u in which people have been able to successfully install OSX on these machines.

sweethome... I am a complete newb when it comes to OSX, so take any advice I give lightly. From all the reading I have been doing trying to get my 9800m working it sounds like you could possibly have a problem with the NVCap value? If the system is indeed booting, but the screen is going black following the drivers and EFI strings loading, I would think there is a possiblitly that the video output is just not being sent to the monitor properly... Does the card have multiple outputs (dual monitor)? One thing you could try real quick is switching which output you have the monitor connected to. Also you could try a VGA to DVI (or vice versa) Adapter just to try to narrow things down. If that does in fact correct your issue chances are it is that NVCap setting, which I would have no idea how to fix, but I would start by trying to hunt down an NVCap value that works correctly, add it to the in.plist supplied for your card, before compiling the hex for the GFXString. Do some trial and error, and let us know if nothing else it could give you a starting point.... Another thing I thought of in reply to your question about which card the GFX String is made for... If you look in your system profilier > Graphics and Hardware, the device id listed there is the one that the hex string is giving the system and may not be the same as your actual card. If you can get it booted using a gfx string, you can check there and see if it matches the device id that is showing up in another os.
  14. I am in the same boat with a 7805u, no QE/CI... I have searched everywhere I can think of and am not finding any answers. Care to give us a hint as to how you solved this one

Jakweeze XP or Vista? In Vista go to device manager, right click the device choose properties, then the details tab. There will be a property drop down box, select Hardware Ids. It will be listed as "PCI\VEN_xxxx&DEV_xxxx" with a bunch of stuff after it. The Ven number is the manufacturer, and the DEV number is the device. There are whole guides written on this if you need more info, there is a sticky in the OSX10.5 installation forums "absolute beginners guide" or something like that which will give you more info.
