  1. HD 6870 DVI Connectors SOLVED

    Today I upgraded to 10.7.4. In the update the aticontroller file was changed. I repeated the process in the post and everything works fine now. I don't have the disk offsets from the 10.7.3 file to compare and I don't know if anything else was changed in the file. So if you update you will have to go through the process again or use a backup copy of the controller file.
  2. GTX 9800+ strangeness in 10.7.3

    To update I have also tried to do an DSDT edit to get the video card working without using graphicsenabler. That was unsuccessful, the system booted but the information was wrong under the system profiler, and the DVD player did not work. Also the fan on the graphics card was at 100%. So, with the graphicsenabler=yes the system appears to be working OK with the exception of cinebench. I tried connecting the computer to the LCD TV again. Whenever its connected the system locks up. I tried remote access and it works OK but only with ssh and not with screen sharing. Again to recap: With 10.7.3, the LCD TV will crash the system, and no cinebench. With 10.5.8, the LCD TV works fine as a monitor. UPDATE: With graphicsenabler=no the LCDTV works. I suspect there is something not right with the accleration.
  3. GTX 9800+ strangeness in 10.7.3

    I did a new install of Lion on a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P with an EVGA 9800 GTX+ 512mb. I have a user DSDT and used [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url] to perform the install. At first glance everything seemed to be working fine. With the GraphicsEnabler key set to yes, the DVD player worked fine, and the card showed up OK in the system prefences pane. I then tried to run cinebench and it would not start, it said it could not find the IDD_DISCLAIMER.res file. I can run the same version of cinebench on my other 10.7.3 rig without a problem. I re-downloaded cinebench and it comes up with the same error. I played with the permissons, to no end. I then thought maybe there is a problem and QL/QE acceleration may not be working right. So I tried using an EFI string for my card from http://aquamac.probo...ack1&thread=509. When I did this things booted OK, but then the monitor went blank after the gray boot screen. So I went back to what I had before with the GraphicsEnabler set to yes and no EFI string. Now is where things get strange. I hooked up the same rig to my LCD TV, which is where I want to use it. I am using a DVI-HDMI passive cable. I get no video on the LCD TV, I try just the monitor and its fine but as soon as I plug in the LCD, the system hangs and won't respond. I tried swapping connections, same results. I then try my old leopard install, which I had an EFI string for the card. It works fine, both monitor and LCD-TV. So I know the card can output properly to the LCD TV and the monitor. I had a lot of problems getting connectors to work on my ATI 6870 which is in my other rig. I had to edit the ATIController framebuffer to get both DVI connectors working with acceleration. So my questions are: 1. Is there a problem with acceleration with GraphicsEnabler=yes which is causing cinebench to not start? 2. Is the EFI string method I'm using not right? I'm doing it under 10.7.3. 3. Is the LCD TV not working a framebuffer issue? My goal for this rig is to use the LCD-TV as a monitor by itself and to have QL/QE acceleration. Thanks Bill

    Attached is my ATI600 kext, which was a 10.7.3. You will have to install it and rebuild your kernel cache. It works for me, I suggest making a backup of your original file and take the necessary precautions. I'm not responsible if you mess up your installation. ATI6000Controller.kext.zip

    Yeah I can post it to my thread. The redsock decode tool helped a lot but the one thing it was wrong was for the transmit for the DVI-I port. That combined with the hotplug ID numbers can make for a lot of combinations. It's too bad there is not a way to determine those.

    I saw VCH888's post and thought I tried it out. I did not use the AtiPorts=5 boot flag so I tried it again. SUCCESS!! I am going to update my post thanks for pointing it out again.

    I have a Gigabyte HD6870 1GB video card and I am running 10.7.3. The card has a DVI-I, DVI-D, HDMI-A, and 2 mini DP connectors on it. I've been trying to get both of the DVI connectors to work with GraphicsEnabler=Yes. I can get them both to work with GraphicsEnabler=No and AtiConfig=Bulrushes. I can get the HDMI port to work with GraphicsEnabler=Yes as well. I don't want to use the HDMI port because it limits the resolution settings on the second monitor. I can't test the mini DP ports because I don't have the adapter. I've read from some of the forums that it is not possible and to buy an adapter. No one really says why. Since I know the card hardware is capable of it, and I can operate both displays under Windows 7 and without GraphicsEnabler I did more research. I tried all of the frame buffers and none of them worked with the 2 displays. I have not been able to get both working. The closest I have got is both displays show up in system info, but the 2nd display has no video signal. I did not think that was going to be a problem since I'm not using the HDMI port. The way I see it if something was plugged in to the HDMI it would turn off the DVI-D and vice versa. Plus they have different senseid numbers. Both where very close, Gibba was slightly better. Duckweed is what the system defaults to with GraphicsEnabler=Yes. I took the Duckweed personality since it matched except for the DVi-D connector and used it in Gibba which has the correct number of connectors. I used IOregistryExplorer to determine the connector type, and control flags for the 2 DVI connectors under GraphicsEnabler=No. The above was the last iteration, I tried changing the transmitter/encoder for the HDMI connector because it was the same as the DVI-D. Like I said I've tried a lot of combinations and none have worked. Before I go out and buy the adapter I am wondering: If it is not possible to use both DVI connectors with GraphicsEnabler=yes why? Is there a way to determine the proper hotplug ID numbers? Changing these sometimes causes the mouse pointer to lag. I've read that in certain cases the hotplug id needs to match the sense id of a neighbooring connector so that if one is plugged in the other will turn off. Does the framebuffer personality have to have the correct number of connectors that the card has? If I am only using 2 connectors is it possible just to have 2 entries in the framebuffer personality and extra ones for the unused connectors? Thanks for any info.     Alex great post I'm following through to get the 2nd DVI connector to work on my gigabyte HD6870. It has 5 physical connectors on it 1 DVI-I 1 DVI-D 2 DP and 1 HDMI. I'm following your example: But as I read the info the connector type should be lvds? The DVI(s) have a 00 00 00 04? What am I missing? I want to make sure I understand so when I change one of the personalities I don't screw up.
  9. What is in your org.chameleon.boot.plist file? I have the same configuration MB and GPU and I have not been able to get the 2nd dvi port to work at all. What brand GPU card do you have. I've got the gigabyte version, GIGABYTE GV-R687OC-1GD.

  11. I started fresh and tried the 1.5.7a24_4outs_3ins_analogHD phone and 1.6.2a37_4outs3ins_analog_reg phone but still no devices are showing up. I went back to stickpin HDA_885_889_for_BOOT-132 A_V4, and now I have devices that show up: Device ID: 0x1458A102 Audio ID: 889 Available Devices: Line Out: Connection: 1/8 inch Jack Headphone: Connection: 1/8 inch Jack Line In: Connection: 1/8 inch Jack Speaker: Connection: Internal S/P-DIF Out: Connection: Optical S/P-DIF In: Connection: Optical But no sound out of any jack and I don't have any output devices listed in sound under sys prefs.
  12. I'm trying to get my ALC889A sound working, I followed stickpins guide on Legacy Apple HDA and nothing is showing up under devices like his screen shot. I then tried installing the kext in this thread for the 889A1056fix, same result except now 889A is not showing in system prefs. I am using EFI partition with a retail dvd. Bill
  13. I followed the guide and installed XP and created the 2nd partition as detailed in the guide using diskpart in xp. When I go to erase the 2nd partition in disk utility i get a error, underlying task reported failure on exit. The info on the 2nd partition shows it has af id, bootable, and is marked active. Trying to mount the partition or use the first aid on it gives the same kind of error. I'm using the boot 132 disc maker for the install cd and the retail copy I'm using is 10.5.1. Mother board is a gigabyte ga-ep45-ud3p. My goal is to dual boot xp and OSX on a singe drive without using a boot cd. Bill Edit: I used gparted to remake the partition (500 Gb hfs+). Now I can erase it but when I go to install it says I gotta go with guid partition table. I thought that the point of the guide was to use mbr? Update: I don't think this method will work with retail install

    I'm having problems getting started, I'm using the original iso image suggested for the first try. The system hangs up at the info line: using 16384 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers.
