  1. Sounds very nice but will this also work if I have 2 harddisks? One is my XP drive and my 2nd hdrive holds the EFI plus MACOSX. Or..do I need to change somethings?
  2. Hi MacGirl I do have some questions: I did also install the munky EFI way on my 2nd hdisk. I just cant get a multiboot to work. My HD0= XP (MBR) and HD1 = MACOSX plus hidden 100MB EFI partition. Since there are so many ways of making retail Leopard to boot Im confused on how to use your guide! I read a lot on this forum but am very confused now. It would help a lot when you or someone else would tell us what the differences are when you have MACOS installed the EFI way by Munky. Since this guide isnt written for my current EFI setup I have the following questions: - cant I use the file called boot0.gpt and place that one on my C drive where XP resides to make a dual boot function? Thats what someone else writes on this forum under the EFI way of install (munky) From your guide: Step 2- make a HFS partition (you can make a Fat32 and then with Disk Utility erase to a HFS) -> do I need to create a 100MB LOGICAL or PRIMARY HFS partition on my first harddisk? I guess it must be Logical. Step 3- use any method to install a boot loader and make this partition the active one, OSX86 Tools is an easy way to do it (you can install any of them, I choose chameleon) -> ???? Guess I already do have a bootloader on my MACOS drive so why another here? Should I delete the one on my 2nd hd? 4- copy your actual kernel to that partition (i name it boot) -> Here Im very confused which kernel file I have to move to this HFS partition...the one under my MACOS or the one thats currently in my hidden EFI? 5- make this folders System/Library and Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration (you can change ownership to root:wheel if you want) 6- copy your /System/Library/Extensions.mkext to the new HFS partition (same path) -> Which one??The stuff I have under EFI? 7- copy your /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist to the new HFS partition (same path) -> same question B- copy the result to the new com.apple.Boot.plist below Kernel Flags key with this prefix "boot-uuid=". -> What to do with my current plist files??? Delete? Delete the whole EFI partition??? Other option is to make the XP partition active, use the chain0 method in the boot.ini but when you select the mac partition you need to select the mac partition from the Darwin bootloader menu again (since the XP partition is the active one Darwin will select as boot OS and if you don't select other you will end in the XP bootloader again, that is Why I prefer the other option Darwin as 1st boot an just one selection). -> ??? When I put chain0 on my 1rst hdrive and in my boot.ini I just cant start up the MAC OS when I click on MAC OS during boot...it can only boot into XP! I can only get into the Darwin bootloader when I physically UNPLUG my XP SATA harddrive0! Then my BIOS only sees the hdrive with MACOS on it and I can boot via Darwin. So: "you need to select the mac partition from the Darwin bootloader menu again" ...I cant even get to this bootloader. Hope you can help me and others ...Im desperate now and killed my XP install already twice! THANKS!!!
  3. [BOOT-132] Legacy AppleHDA

Hi Rals2007..Ive tried it today and yes after some repeats of this error only during boot (see below) it stops giving me this messages in console. Looks its solved?! Maybe Mongkol can tell why I still see it during booting up? But Im HAPPY!! Thank you mongkol and Rals2007 ! 4. I checked again and see why I couldnt...at that point in time I didnt understand how to do: /sbin/fsck -fy and the 2nd step should have been /sbin/mount -uw / Now I do.. I should have just typed the commands from the prompt but thought I could not..thought a program could only be executed when you start with typing a ./ thats why I didnt understand it and played around with the sudo command. Sorry for that Im learning more commands with the minute! ;p Pity you cant help with connecting up my 2nd SATA with XP on it ...Ill do more research on this forum. ------- Can you plze. also explain to me where the file com.apple.Boot.plist is used for? If I wanna change something in it (I read you can e.g. set a resolution in it/add strings) and since I am using EFI booting, do I need to change the file that resides in the EFI partition or the one on the root drive??? If I e.g. use the program OSX86util that is of course started from the GUI, I assume it then changes the com.apple.Boot.plist file on the root drive of the system and not on the hidden EFI and in this way Im screwing my system up?! I really like and need to understand this before I get into problems. Same question I have for a kext file: do understand I need to put them on the EFI partition following this guide but what happens if they conflict or worse have the same name as the one used by the vanilla apple install itself under drive/System/L/E/...wont there be any conflicts arising when you reboot? Does the boot procedure solve this automatically or....? Can I just add any kext to my EFI and hope it will not conflict or do I need to erase the apple kext at the same time? thxs again!
  5. [BOOT-132] Legacy AppleHDA

Hi there! Thxs for all the good work on this forum! Ive got ALC883 working: line out=hphones= working L+R. Also Mic IN is working correct. Other input/output not. I have attached for yr research the codec dump. I used the correct Address 0 download. Also every 5 secs in my syslog the following: Sound assertion "0 == fExternalControlArray" failed in "/SourceCache/AppleHDA/AppleHDA-162.1.37/AppleHDA/AppleHDAFunctionGroup.cpp" at line 767 goto Exit Feb 3 22:49:26 localhost kernel[0]: Sound assertion "0 == entry" failed in "/SourceCache/AppleHDA/AppleHDA-162.1.37/AppleHDA/AppleHDAEngine.cpp" at line 2645 goto Exit Hope you also can solve this? Thxs again and Ill keep watching here! codec_dump.txt
  6. Hi Bladerunner thank you for helping me. I did try this but got within nano (after erasing the string) the message: system is read only.. cant write the file. Why is this? Didnt know how to solve it at that time ;( After this I rebooted and got a boot0: error.. then I did a complete re install, again the boot0: error. I figured out it had to do something with my drive setup. I have 1 SATA drive with MACOS on it plus an extra IDE drive connected to the onboard JMicron JMB363 controller. Looking in BIOS in boot priority the SATA wasnt showing up at all (only floppy/cd and the ide drive were there) although in the main BIOS screen it was correctly shown as detected as SATA1! I then took the IDE cable off the IDE drive and looked again in BIOS and now my SATA drive DID show up in the boot priority list (and the IDE had gone out)! Very strange. Now I could boot right into MAC OS. I then re connected the IDE drive and everything was working as it should. Now for my last questions: I have another SATA drive with XP already on it..I wanna connect it too.. afraid to screw up..should it have the chain0 or other to function correct with one SATA being the MACOSX drive? I also have the problem that sometimes (1 out of 3 boots) I dont have USB keyboard and USB mouse working...any ideas why?
  7. It worked for 8800GT 1Gb!!!! Thanks a lot mate! ;p For Audio..why can't I use the Taruga patch method? I followed everything and I do have SOUND now!! A big THANKS to this community.. Also Software updating to V10.5.6 worked fine.. Only details in about my Mac are wrong now but that obviously has to do with 10.5.6 since it was correct in 10.5.4
  8. Hello all. After a succesful install of iPC I finally dared to try a retail install the EFI way. Everything worked following munky's phases 0 to 5. I could nicely boot into Leopard 10.5.1. Only problems left were my NVidia8800GT 1Gb and my audio. I downloaded EFI Studio and created an EFI String for a 8800GT 512Mb (as no 1Gb was in this list). I also added to com.apple.Boot.plist. Rebooted.... and now I get the Kernel panic! Cant boot into Leopard anymore ;( Whats wrong? I did the same things as I was used to with iPC install...thats what caused it? Should I have added the string with the EFI Studio tool to the com.apple.boot.plist thats on the EFI partition?? Can I still solve this without a complete re install? How can I also make my ALC883 sound working? Could I use the Taruga patcher or does this also screw up the install? end of the report after booting with -v: kextd[70]: loaded version 1.6.0. of com.apple.iokit.IONetworking Family differs from requested version 1.6.0 (UUIDs differ) kextd[70]: a link/load error occured for kernel extension /System/L/E/IOFireWireIP.kext Thank you all for any help!!! ------- My signature: P5K, Q6600, SATA 500Gb, MAC OSX10.5.1 used kexts in EFI sector: AppleIntelPIIXATA, AppleDecrypt, IONetworkingFamily, Disabler, AppleSMBios,JMicronATA,AttansicL1Ethernet
