Radeon 4850 and 10.6.3 update problems

I have ripples on my Dashboard and no problems with complex graphics (games) which I think shows that QE/CI are working. I have a Gigabyte dual DVI (GV-R485ZL-512H) which is a little different as it originally came with a huge copper Zalman fan.

Radeon 4850 and 10.6.3 update problems

Whoop whoop! Run software update, reboot with -x, reinstall ATI4800Controller ATIFramebuffer and ATISupport, reboot. Update to 10.6.3 - done.

Radeon 4850 and 10.6.3 update problems

@TH3L4UGH1NGM4N Thanks for the advice, I'm on retail. I've backed up S/L/E and E/E and now I'm about to jump in. I know single user mode however on the original install the only issue I had was with gfx so -x got me in to do what i needed. Backed up, fingers crossed, nose held...

Radeon 4850 and 10.6.3 update problems

Sorry, quite new here but I have a fully working 10.6.2 with my HD4850. All I did was add the id to the existing ATI4800Controller.kext and installed it using kext helper, then modded the com.apple.Boot.plist to add graphicsEnabler. I haven't installed ATIFramebuffer or ATISupport kexts but everything is working - even QE/CI (ripples in dashboard). Does anyone know if I upgrade to 10.6.3 and make the same changes, will everything work again? Just so happy to be here I don't want to start again if things go wrong!
  5. OK, I wiped the slate clean and tried again and everything is 100% working now . My problem before was the pesky 100MB System Partition that Windows 7 creates on install (if you let Win7 installer free on your hdd!). Somehow that was messing everything up for me - I now have Windows 7 and Snow Leopard running 100% from the same drive with Chameleon boot loader. I had to manually install Chameleon as the myHack still didn't work but I'm so happy!!! Thanks RoberT
  6. Thanks for all your advice but I tried all sorts and nothing seemed to work. I have now finally solved my booting issue by booting from the Windows 7 installation disc and using the System recovery to repair the boot sector on the HDD. This only worked for me as I had Win7 installed before Snow Leopard. If anyone else finds themselves in a similar position just boot from the Windows 7 installation disc, choose language [next], Repair your computer and let it do it's thing. Guide. For more complex operations you can also use MS command line Diskpart. Guide. Once you got that sorted, install EasyBCD. Simples.
  7. Installed, same. boot0: done boot1: error Anyone know what boot0 and boot1 is? I have 4 SATA HDDs, 1 SATA DVD and no IDE.
  8. Yes, all on same drive. MBR formatted, 3 partitions as mentioned before. I don't understand why it doesn't work apart from the 1st partition is NTFS and the drive is MBR... doest this have any effect? I will try EFI.
  9. Tried that and get boot0: done boot1: error
  10. so simple. Thanks to you and N1h1LuS, I have SL installed and running with my 4850 . Up to Step 7 and having issues making the SL drive bootable. I'm dual boot with Windows 7 already installed so I have: 105Mb System Partition (created by Windows 7 install) 179GB Windows 7 55GB Snow Leopard Drive is MBR, Windows 7 partitions are NTFS and SL is Mac OS Extended (Journaled). myHack_Installer_1.0.mpkg failed, and Chameleon failed. I can only boot from (F8) USB drive. Any suggestions?
  11. OK, first well done RoberT_XeS. Looks like a brilliant guide, shame I am one of the 1/3 that it doesn't work for Second, thanks N1h1LuS for bringing the complicated 4850 into ther argument as I think this might be my issue. My HW: Asus P5Q-e Q6600 (watercooled, OC'ed and stable at 3.6GHz!) 8GB RAM Gigabyte HD4850 gfx I followed Robs guide up to 5.6 at which point I get a little confused which kext to put in E/E folder. I currently have: - IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext - EvOreboot.kext - FakeSMC.kext - SMBIOSResolver.kext - NullCPUPowerManagement.kext Then on to step 6. 1. Reboot OK 2. boot menu OK 3. boot from USB OK 5. Where do I type in -v? I'm in the iFix GUI, pressing cursor down gives me verbose mode. I try this and after a while the gfx corrupt. 4. Dont get this far. With N1H1LuS. How and where do I 'Boot Snow Leopard installer with: -v -x'? I dont have a command line, just GUI. I've Hacked b4, I have 10.5 Vanilla installed on my Shuttle SG31G2 which was no problem but now I want it on my main rig (P5Q-E w/ HD4850) I'm getting stuck and I feel so stoopid asking these questions! Please help!

    Shuttle SG31G2 BIOS Settings

I dont have SL working and Leo was as simple as Boot123 CD, Chameleon and Leo Vanilla install. 1) boot from Boot123 CD 2) swap CD for Leo DVD 3) install Vanilla Leo 4) before reboot, install Chameleon On to Snow Leopard... I have now bought a new hdd and have installed SL on the new drive following a combination of this guide and #5 and #6. I can boot into Chameleon and choose Snow Leopard np, but then I get the "Please switch off your computer/restart" message. So as far as I can tell this is not a KP and the issue is one of my kexts? Can anyone help? I got a feeling I'm so close!

    Shuttle SG31G2 BIOS Settings

Thanks for the reply. I'm still running plain ol' Leo with Chameleon (RC2 I think) right now and everything is working just sweet. It was a while back I did the install and cant remember what kexts I installed. I can, and have been updating Leo np but as I bought SL I want to upgrade. Any experience with upgrading leo to SL? Is this a bad idea, should I just bite the bullet and install clean? I'm not noob but it's been a while and I dont want to break all the hard work I've done so far! Advice appreciated.

Hi Waffle, I'm that someone I had 10.5 working fine but I just cant get SL to work. PC-EFI v10.6 has recently been released, would this help? Any chance of that guide for SL on the SG31G2? Would be very much appreciated. Thanks

    Snow Leopard on P5Q-E

I have same board, I failed to get 10.5.6 retail anywhere near working but happily got it to work on my little Shuttle box with very little effort - Boot123, few kexts, Chameleon 2.0RC1 and I was up and Macing. I really want to get SL on this rig but just dont have time right now. Would very much appreciate any progress reports or findings as you go to ease the pain when I get round to it .
