  1. DD - thanks for a great thread and fantastic work... finally moved from your 10.5.x script and this 10.6.x one is even easier.... I will be looking at the RAID option too.. cheers.
  2. Wow .. thanks yet again MAJ for the great work .. will get on to this one soon.
  3. Hey MAJ Did a quick build with 3.7.. some interesting findings when doing a build on the i7 Ran up using 10.5.6 retail and then 10.5.7 Combo update through to item 6 and restarted on new HDD ... run up OK - 8 cores available, CPU-x now reporting correct BCLK and CPU speed near enough - seems OS X is adding in an extra .5 multiplier hence the CPU speed not fully correct, prob a hang over from the C2D 45nm.... memory speed also correct within CPU-x ... see attached. Applied ATI 4890 accel kexts and some themes etc but still no DSDT patching, restart ok. Took the opportunity to try Plex but same issue when unloading the driver after a DTS to AC3 down-mix... audio / Plex hangs. But the killer is once the DSDT patcher (7) is run the HDD fails to reboot...? DD37_CPUx_preDSDT.tiff
  4. Thanks again MAJ .. will give 3.7 a go! The SMexternalclock should represent the BCLK or the bus speed so setting this right will then allow something like CPU-X to report correctly the multiplier for the given OC... well that is what I observed on a previous build... The audio driver is still providing some challenges in particular with Plex and Digital Out... if the AV receiver does not support DTS then Plex with down-mix to AC3 and then releases the driver when finished, it appears that the release is not clean and so audio stops until either a restart or using the MIDI utility to get things working again.... what is the default audio kext used within the 3.6/3.7 script? cheers

A Simple Guide to the 4830/4850/4870/4870x2/4890

    Yes ... http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1151993
  6. Thanks again... have migrated across even though there are a few things to tinker with .. OC'ing upwards one of them. I have noticed some issues with the digital out when using Plex media centre in that after the first or second movie the audio stops and Plex hangs.. this is all pointing to the 889a drivers ... it maybe that a simple reinstall of the driver is all that is required but I am not sure which of the ones are used as standard within the 3.6 script.... but when it is running full digital audio is streamed to the receiver Another item on the network, in case someone is looking for the Firewire network (and Bluetooth if installed) these will become available by reinstalling the networking kext. Try to reinstall the network kext ...
  7. Hi MAJ Thanks again ... did a fresh install using 3.6 ... very nice and the dsdt files have 8 cores out of the box.. very nice Followed... robo456 steps 1) Installed SATA drive in working EP45-EXTREME 2) Formatted/Partitioned it with GUID 3) Mount retail 10.5.6 and combo 10.5.7 images 4) Ran DD 3.6 script 4a) option 2, 3, 4 4b) Installed combo update to target drive 4c) option 5, 6 5) exit, shutdown, remove drive and replaced into target machine (EX58-EXTREME) 6) Boot up, go thru the initial user setup and get to the desktop 7) re-ran the run-patch_installer.command script 7a) option 7, 9, 10 7b) Added HD4890 kexts to enable CI/QE 8) exited out, reboot... Just need to do the cosmetics of the About details for CPU & Memory Speed Run benches to compare against previous builds and very similar Geekbench 2.1 - 14.3K xBench 1.3 463 (No HDD) 261 (HDD) Cinebench r10 1 CPU 5283 22188 4.20 x OpenGL 9857
  8. Hi MAJ Sent across another DSDT file .... this one generic and via DSDT GUI Looks like with 10.5.7 the USB plug'n'play is now fully working, so memory sticks/thumb drives are good. Did some editing of smbios to reflect actual HW OC but is there a way for the system to automatically do this so as the OC Changes about MAC is correct?
  9. Thanks .. its warm (of course) and OK for benching .. need to get a case too. Got to the other machine (non X58) and created a fresh drive using Script 3.5 / RC1 / 10.5.6 DVD retail... running up the drive CPU=4 ... dsdt had only 4 lines for the CPU... no Alias comments. Scope (_PR) { Processor (CPU0, 0x00, 0x00000410, 0x06) {} Processor (CPU1, 0x01, 0x00000410, 0x06) {} Processor (CPU2, 0x02, 0x00000410, 0x06) {} Processor (CPU3, 0x03, 0x00000410, 0x06) {} } Again adding in the additional lines for CPU 4-7 did not open up the extra HT CPUs... Finally adding the parameter "_PR." to each CPU line allowed all CPUs to open up.... Scope (_PR) { Processor (_PR.CPU0, 0x00, 0x00000410, 0x06) {} Processor (_PR.CPU1, 0x01, 0x00000410, 0x06) {} Processor (_PR.CPU2, 0x02, 0x00000410, 0x06) {} Processor (_PR.CPU3, 0x03, 0x00000410, 0x06) {} Processor (_PR.CPU4, 0x04, 0x00000410, 0x06) {} Processor (_PR.CPU5, 0x05, 0x00000410, 0x06) {} Processor (_PR.CPU6, 0x06, 0x00000410, 0x06) {} Processor (_PR.CPU7, 0x07, 0x00000410, 0x06) {} } I do not understand this and may be there is something you can see but at least I know what to do for this machine... now to get to move up to 10.5.7 thxs
  10. Reinstall the IONetworkingFamily.kext located in the kext folder of MAJ's Installer Pack - use Kext Helper b7.. this has helped.
  11. MAJ DSDT files sent .. Process was via ur post #1 using RC1 and genuine Retail DVD 10.5.6... will send a few more examples once the other machine becomes available. Gotta love those 8-cores .. pushed Geekbench up ... now 14K+ thxs
  12. This is correct, the original dsdt file did not have the CPU alias within it.. hence only the 4 cores.. I will need to recreate that again and can email these to you - the test drives used were bricked through me poking around... luckily I do not place my data or business at risk with these .. While the links were discussing the Asus board, I as does scfg have a Gigabyte EX58-Extreme which is effectively the same as the UD5 with some extra cooling. thxs.
  13. Hello I referred to this thread http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...pic=133683%2522 and also this one http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/lofiversi...p:/t159686.html It is the DSDT patcher ... and something about searching for Alias around the CPU section... which was not present in my version to edit ....
  14. Finally sorted the 8-core issue .. thanks to scfp for the dsdt file .. found the mis-match when compared to the file generated by dsdt patcher .. still need to study that more though, but at least all 8 can now be engaged. Geekbench shows an ok result thxs i7_11.8K.tiff
