Well, I have to agree I've put SSD and R9 280X in mine. RAM is next, stock CPU is holding pretty well for now.

You know, I am very satisfied with the current performance. I added 16GB of RAM, so that help as well

I know it's a few months old post, but just for the record - in single Xeon 4,1 there is absolutely nothing to worry about when changing CPU.

Dual CPU 4,1's are tricky because they use delidded CPUs  (dual 5,1 uses normal CPUs). So you either go with IHS removal, or tighten heatsink "by feel" and pray not to bend pins on CPU sockets.

You know that's the first thing I did ... I installed Sierra OS without any issue. I don't want to change the processor because I was reading that it is not easy at all and can damage the motherboard. I don't have any issue with performance. The only thing that can speed up things is upgrading to a SSD hard drive.

Speaking of upgrades, don't forget the 5,1 firmware hack. It can open up the possibility to run newer CPUs and RAM.

    Awesome! And welcome again

    Put some Geekbench results here

PS: With a good SSD, you'll get a even better experience.

Long time I have not checked InsanelyMac since 2012... I bought a few months ago a MacPro 2009 and it just amazing the performance that you get with 16GB of RAM. It cost $469 dollars plus I upgrade the memory and the graphics... I invested almost $200 for a 2GB Radeon 7870 card. I just want to share my experience as the owner of a great Mac machine.
