  1. Asus 1201N Installation and support

@mondial Look at this part, see that 'master' is greyed out? Is it that way on yours? Are you using IOAudio2Family.kext? Also if you click the "settings cog wheel drop down list" at the bottom of the window, the text "Use this device for sound input" is also greyed out. You are right about why it's greyed out in the drop down list, just because it already is being 'used as the sound input'. Had the same experience on Snow Leopard.. Skype works but not Google Voice. What version of Skype are you using? Is it the default download or the v5.11.0.33 beta version? Installed 5.11.0.33 beta.. mic is working fine. Just wish I could get the mic working in Google.

@mondial With what options are you installing Chameleon to the HD? I tried installing the latest version of Chameleon Chameleon-2.1svn-r2061.pkg with a default install to my external test HD. When it boots, there is no bootloader GUI, just large text. I can boot to the os with the boot flags: npci=0x2000 -v. Would be nice to find the option to set the text size smaller so there isn't so much line wrapping when it boots with -v. Another issue is the microphone. If you go to: Lauchpad - Other - Audio MIDI Setup When you click "Built-in Microphone" on the left side, is the master slider greyed out? It is on my install. This is probably what is causing the issues with the microphone in Skype and also causes no mic in Google voice. Do you have IOAudio2Family.kext installed? Does that help this issue?

@mtek If by multitouch you mean being able to scroll a safari window with two fingers on the touchpad, yes that works. I am using VoodooPS2. Nasseau's Trackpad.prefPane is in /library/PreferencePanes to disable 'tap to click' on the trackpad which is extremely annoying when trying to type When you install Chameleon to the HD, what options do you select? If I boot to the external mountain lion HD through the older chameleon bootloader used with snow leopard on the internal hd, it only partially loads, then the screen goes black and it automatically reboots. Worried it won't boot if I install chameleon to the mountain lion hd. If I boot to the UB usb drive then select mountain lion from that bootloader menu, it boots fine. On a previous ML install to the external hd, I installed EB to the hd and it also wouldn't boot. So wondering how to properly install the latest version of Chameleon as the bootloader.

Great, sound is working fine now. Even youtube seems to be fine in Safari too. I'm only using AppleHDA.kext IOAudioFamily.kext NOT using this one: IOAudio2Family.kext Some of the confusion was from not realizing that I also had to create a Extra/Extensions folder on the new install HD in addition to the one that was on the boot usb. Have not used MB either. I am still booting to the external test HD with the bootloader on the usb drive, just with -v. Want to install Chameleon-2.1svn-r2061, but not sure the options to check with a custom install of Chameleon.

So got it working up to 10.8.2 on an external USB drive, but having trouble getting sound to work. Are all of these kexts are necessary for the audio to work properly? AppleHDA.kext IOAudioFamily.kext IOAudio2Family.kext Could any of them be conflicting? VoodooHDA.kext works, but there is high hiss and crackling sos removed it. You mention Kext Utility b7, can't get that to run, is Kext Wizard basically the same thing?

Tried so many different installation options the past few days but they aren't working. Hopefully someone capable can put together a step by step install guide... One that doesn't require the use of any beast stuff or installer creator branded ones would be great. Thanks.

@mondial, I'm exactly where you are at using a UB v1.5.3 created USB boot drive with 10.8 mach_kernal and using bootflags: npci=0x2000 -v -x Stops at the same line: [iOBluetoothHCIController::setconfigstate] calling RegisterService Have you been able to get any further? What boot flags are you using?

UPDATE: Fixed (see crazyjuice's new install instructions) Noticed something about VoodooHDA in the kernal panic... Deleted VodooHDA.kext Works now! At 10.6.4 which I upgraded from, still was using VoodooHDA.kext... so make sure to delete that. Thanks Mondi & crazyjuice! Thanks Crazyjuice for the quick response! I did subsitute dsdt.aml before update reboot, but I didn't rename or delete the original "mach_kernal" file. The proper string with "mach_kernel_atom" is in com.apple.Boot.plst Still getting kernal panic .. hmm Attaching screenshots if that is any clue.

Mondi, What step of Crazyjuice's guide did you start from, with your 10.6.4 system? I've got 10.6.4 installed too. Thanks, fly

Is there an Asus 1201n specific installation guide for Chameleon? Everything about the dual boot installation is going great, but on this page: http://groups.google.com/group/hq-a/web/in...ows-7-dual-boot All it says about installing Chameleon is: "be sure to install Chameleon choosing the OS X partition as the target before proceeding to the next step." Is there a simple guide for installing the latest version of Chameleon (RC5?) for dual booting Win7 / OSX on the 1201n? Hmmm... so it looks like Chameleon RC3 is already installed. Wonder why it asks that you install it as a separate step?

Don't have another Mac and can't use VMware on 1201n to prepare USB boot drive. Tried using Hazard to at least let me prepare the USB, but doesn't install. Is there a release that at least partially installs to the 1201n, or some other solution so I can prepare the USB drive?

I had the same question. Under "Items Needed": Retail Snow Leopard DVD (available from Amazon.com among others) What version of Retail Snow Leopard DVD will work? 10.6.0, 10.6.2, 10.6.3? Can you use the Retail 10.6.3 DVD to prepare your flash drive?
  14. Asus 1201N Installation and support

Has anyone been able to install Snow Leopard as a virtual machine in VMWare to create USB Flash drive boot?: http://adbge.org/installing-snow-leopard-a...irtual-machine/ Using VMWare player and workstation, when I 'power on the virtual machine' I get the error message: "Mac OS X is not supported with software virtualization To run Mac OS X you need a host on which VMware Workstation supports hardware virtualization Mac OS X is not supported with" Doing this in Windows 7. Does this have something to do with the fact that the Atom 330 does not support "Intel Virtualization Technology (VT-x)"? [Edit]: Doh!... Thanks for the info Mosslack.

Great thread. Could you put an "updated on:" date at the bottom of the top post whenever you update it? That way it would be easy to tell if there is anything new at a glance. Appreciate it. Thanks.
