ALC889A setup for 10.6.4 the easy way

I have the same motherboard and setup- I have been pulling my hair out as well- you have the simpliest post to follow. I am running 10.6.4 right now. Funny thing when I first installed 10.6 last night before upgrading the sound worked. Can you please tell me what you have in the extra/extensions folder? I have HDAEnabler.kext and LegacyHDA. Still not working for me Thanks Cash EDIT: UPDATE I deleted the HDAEnabler.kext and LegacyHDA. from extra/extensions folder. I did not think that it was working and then I looked at the sound control panel I have three options for line in now. If I plug into the front speakers (black) i get some sound not as loud as it should be and slightly distorted but... I will take what I can get at this point- any ideas??
  2. What would the changes you would need to make to use this guide with the EP45-DS3R? over the DS3L. Thanks Cash
  3. I am in the market to build a mid range home build mac that runs 10.6.1. When you look at the Wiki board it seems that most of the boards that have "yes" to working EFI kernel and fully working without patch at "yes" are no longer sold by newegg. There are several great guides but most of these like the "weaksauce" guide are with MB that are quite old and hard to find. What is the best board that is currently made that is mid range in cost and works without patch?. Would it not make since to get the most compatible and well tested board for future updates. I don't want to push the edge for speed or technology just want the most current and future compatibility. Also well documented setup would be nice . I would like the new machine to be equal in speed to the mid level Imac. Cash

Gordon, I have the same board that you have and have (EP45-DS3R/DS3) and am currently running 10.5.8 with a EFix v1.0 dongle that is not supported by the company that I purchased it from and is proving to be a waste of $180 six months ago. I purchased a retail copy of snow leopard and have been hesitant to move form this darn usb dongle thing into a true do it your self mac. Can you please recommend the best guide to help me along the way? Question: does your mother board sound card work under 10.6.1? The information on Wiki for this board says "sound not yet" Thanks, Cash
  5. I sure have enjoyed your writing style for the guide. I wish you would write the guides for the E-Fix.

  6. I am in the process of building my first dual boot system and was wondering if a blue ray DVD burner drive like the this one will work in Leopard. Here is the description: The LG GGC-H20L 16X Blu-ray/HD DVD drive brings you dual-layer DVD capability, LightScribe creativity, and LG quality. The drive connects via SATA. In dual-layer mode, you'll be able to write 8.5 GB of data to one dual-layer DVD, in DVD±R mode, you'll get 16X write speed, and you can play and burn HD DVD and play Blu-Ray media! No matter what media you need to work with, you'll have the right tools to get the job done quickly and accurately. Blu-ray Disc offers an unprecedented 25 GB capacity on a single-layer disc and 50 GB on a dual layer disc. That's enough storage for nine hours of HD movies, 23 hours of standard definition content or 72 CDs on a single disc! In addition to its massive storage capacity, Blu-ray Disc gives you MPEG2 playback, the native compression technique for HDTV broadcasts, or even more capacity with advanced codes such as AVC.
