  1. hey guys, its time to upgrade my gaming tower into the realm of quad core. ive picked out the following package, but i would just like to run it by the forum. i know its gotten me a better board for an extra $15 before. also, whats the difference between enhanced and low latency ram? they have 9-9-9-24 and 8-8-24 timings respectively, but i know didly squat about timings. so, heres what i got. would like to use this store as i can physically pick the stuff up, but if you have a canadian online store that goes for less with shipping too, ill consider that. http://www.memoryexpress.com/Product...29777(ME).aspx - Asus P7P55D-E http://www.memoryexpress.com/Product...29798(ME).aspx - Intel i5 760 http://www.memoryexpress.com/Product...29711(ME).aspx - Patriot Extreme Viper II Sector 7 Enhanced Latency (Low also available) also picked out this monitor: http://www.memoryexpress.com/Product....aspx?curtab=2 - BenQ V2410 thanks in advance
  2. I have an iPhone 3gs ( new bootrom ) which i recently JB'd with the jailbreakme.com service. worked like a charm, except now my music player (the ipod, effectively) doesnt work at all. opens, shows a white screen for approx 5-6 seconds, then crashes. CrashReport is indicating a lovely segfault, as follows. i do not know if this was immediately after JBing, or after a certain package was installed, as the first time i tried the music player was only just recently. any other info i will be glad to give. 3. change autoload time in rEFIt?

    bump? anyone?
  4. im actually running a legit uMBP, and ive got rEFIt with osx and win7 so far, with hopes of adding in ubunutu. One thing ive noticed though is the autoload time for osx is 20 seconds. (if you dont press a key in 20secs, osx loads) this is way too {censored} long for me. is there a command in the refit shell that will change this? i looked on the refit website, and it has nothing on the topic. i tried <help> in the shell, but there were like 4 pages of commands listed, and im not sure how to scroll back up. :s i think theres a switch or parameter or something to prevent a command from overflowing (auto scrolling down) the terminal screen, but i cant remember how. anyone got this down already? thanks
  5. Radeon HD 5870 / HD 5850

    gosh dangit bobby!
  6. Force screen resolution

haha no way! i didnt even notice the date! how in the world did i find this thread?? anyways, thank you very much! i will do this asap once i get home! also, in display preferences (or something similar, im sorry, im not at the computer in question right now) my video card and driver version reads "<null>". might this have an impact on the problem as well? edit: um, im sorry, but im not seeing any x3100 sticky. "x3100" in the title?
  7. Force resolution without drivers

im trying the same thing; doesnt work at all for me. i enter >>>"Graphics Mode"="1440x900x32"<<< as a boot flag, but it doesnt even change the resolution at all. still just 1024x768. EDIT: oh and i tried manually entering it during the boot: prompt itself. if i leave it at just 1440x900x32 then it will boot into a slightly larger 4:3 resolution (WTF!?!?!?!!), and if i try 1440x900x32@60 then it just restarts; didly squat is accomplished. yay. *longsigh*
  8. Force screen resolution

The exact same thing happens to me. Im trying to force 1440x900x32@60, and tried 70 too, but if i specify the refresh rate, the computer simply reboots. If i leaver it at 1440x900x32, i get some 4:3 resolution, slightly bigger than 1024x768 or w/e, but its still not 1440x900 for some reason. :s PS EVERYONE: i found a program called DisplayConfigX that supposedly forces mac to load any resolution/refresh rate combo you specify. it hasnt worked for me, but maybe it will for someone else.
  9. Radeon HD 5870 / HD 5850

im in a similar boat as you guys. i had an evga 8600gts (nvidia card) installed and working beautifully, but then i decided my gaming performance was just too damn pathetic, and i went out and bought a sapphire 5770. so i pop it in, enjoy a few days of orgasmic crysis gaming, then head over to my osx leopard install. the display still worked just fine with my nvidia kexts, (surprisingly) albeit with a slightly crippled aspect ratio. (1080 by w/e, neways it was 4:3. seems to be what people are talking about here.) my first question was should i delete my nvidia kexts before i install ati kexts? i was just going to use my hackintosh install disc to do an update-install. but now i see there are more problems than just this. it seems the big problems are with the 58xx series however. has anyone gotten a nice 16:10 ratio with their 57xx cards? any special tricks? thanks all
  10. I am selling my custom-built PC, built in the summer of 2007. I need a laptop for university and will therefore have little use for my desktop. SPECS: - Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L mobo {mouse&keyboard PS/2, SPDIF out, serial, 1394 firewire, 2x 100MB ethernet, 2x 2.0 USB, 4x 1.1 USB, 7.1 surround sound, eSATA} - Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 2.33GHz proc - Crucial Ballistix 2x 1GB RAM (2 GB total) - eVGA e-GeForce 8600GTS 256MB video card - Corsair HX520W power supply - LG DVD-RW w/ LightScribe burner {SATA} - generic floppy drive - Seagate Barracuda 250GB hard drive {IDE} - Maxtor 40GB hard drive {IDE} - SONY DVD-RW burner {IDE} (not connected, just takes up a spot, but YOURS FREE) I currently have Windows XP and Mac OSX 10.5.2 installed and running. Mac has been running with full support for the last 2 years. Neither OSX or XP has crashed on me once, never had a BSOD, still starts-up, loads, and runs like a charm. Even when I first put it all together, it ran perfect first boot. I can have either XP, Mac OSX, any distro of Linux, or any combination of installed and running for you when you buy it, and I'll partition the hard drives any way you like, if you have any specific requests. This thing is in almost-perfect condition, the exceptions being some scuff marks around the corners/edges of the case, and a bent-up disc tray tab on the inside, which you can see in the images below. As for GAMING, this thing will run just about any game older than ~1 year on full settings no problem. FEAR ran on full, no lag. ES4 Oblivion ran on almost full settings, medium draw distances, no lag. Dead Space runs on full no problem. I also have a BenQ FP93GW 19" LCD monitor which I will part with if need be; extra $130. And if you /really/ need it, I have a cheap Labtec keyboard (extra $5), and a Logitech G5 gaming mouse I will be very reluctant to part with, seeing as I love it very much; extra $55. I think that's about it. Anything else, be free to contact me with any questions. email: darius dot clinton at gmail dot com ALSO, I live in Cougar Ridge which is directly behind COP, in Calgary, Alberta.
