1. Poor graphics performance GTX580 3gb

@mitch_de Thank you for replying, I dont usually test with cinebench because the opencl test use processor and its not the best to test just graphics power. however i did run it and got a about 36fps. I didnt find the kext loaded when i looked for it with the command kextstat which tells me its not being loaded at boot for some reason. i did more digging around on this and also tried adding string Graphics Mode and leaving it empty on my org.chameleon.boot.plist file but i am unable to boot. Either I get a "still waiting for root device" when i boot in verbose or i get some sort of white bar at the top left part of the screen and never goes forward. I have no idea how i can get this thing to work properly. Any other ideas?. Thanks in advance.
2. Poor graphics performance GTX580 3gb

Hello ive been trying to see if i can improve my graphics performance but i havent been lucky. I have tried the guide for applegraphicspowermanagement.kext with no luck. I have full resoultion and i think i have qe/ci enabled because i have the menu bar transparent. Here is what i have tried so far: installed GTX 5XX ENABLER and CUDA pkg for 10.7.3 Switched my smbios.plist from macpro4,1 to Imac 12,2 with ##### I made sure i had imac12,2 and device id 1080 with g state 1 in thresholds in applegraphicspowermanagement.kext here is my org.chameleon.boot.plist info <key>Kernel</key> <string>mach_kernel</string> <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string>npci=0x2000 PCIRootUID=0 darkwake=0</string> <key>GraphicsEnabler</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>Timeout</key> <string>2</string> <key>Legacy Logo</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>EthernetBuiltIn</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>GenerateCStates</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>GeneratePStates</key> <string>Yes</string> my smbios.plist <key>SMfamily</key> <string>iMac</string> <key>SMproductname</key> <string>iMac12,2</string> <key>SMboardproduct</key> <string>Mac-942B59F58194171B</string> <key>SMserial</key> <string>C02FT7U2DHJP</string> <key>SMbiosversion</key> <string>#####.tonymacx86.com</string> here are my specs macosx 10.7.3 ASUS p8p67pro rev3 Evga GTX 580 3gb corsair vengance at 1866 160gb HDD sata Here are my NovaBench results 2012-02-22 22:57:25 +0000 Mac OS X 10.7.3 Intel Core i7 @ 3400 MHz Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 580 8192 MB System RAM (Score: 181) - RAM Speed: 9131 MB/s CPU Tests (Score: 726) - Floating Point Operations/Second: 274513632 - Integer Operations/Second: 588717184 - MD5 Hashes Calculated/Second: 1141672 Graphics Tests (Score: 102) - 3D Frames Per Second: 268 Hardware Tests (Score: 23) - Primary Partition Capacity: 120 GB - Drive Write Speed: 76 MB/s As you can see, the graphics test is nowhere near good. Also is there a way to see if applegraphicspowermanagement.kext is loaded? or if its loading at boot? Thanks in advance.
3. Hi blackosx, I tried it without the dsdt file but no luck. However my panics might be caused by some software i installed at the beggining of snow. Im gonna look into it and see what i can find, Ill post results. Thanks again for the help. -uketommyv
4. Hi blackosx, My spotlight issue was caused by a corrupted folder, where spotlight indexes. What i did was to delete that folder and forced manual spotlight indexing from terminal. That seemed to fix it. Now my dsdt file should be straight forward, since i made this from the guide but do you think my machine will start without the dsdt file? i may be able to delete the file and try to update, see if it works. Thanks again for the help. -uketommyv
5. Well I fixed the spotlight issue, which i thought was the problem for kernel panicking. but its still crashing while installing. Anyone has a suggestion? Heres the crash report as im starting to update: 12/8/09 10:05:51 AM com.apple.launchd[1] *** launchd[1] has started up. *** 12/8/09 10:06:07 AM com.apple.DumpPanic[32] 2009-12-08 10:06:07.554 DumpPanic[32:107] Error getting a reference to IODeviceTree:/options 12/8/09 10:06:07 AM com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.DumpPanic[32]) Exited with exit code: 1 12/8/09 10:06:33 AM com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[80] (com.apple.ReportCrash) Falling back to default Mach exception handler. 6. Hi Blackosx, Im running 32 bit kernel and i tried looking into the system.log file but couldnt find anything about the kernel panic. Im out of ideas. What else can I try?. I also found out my spotlight is not working properly, it index constantly. here is the error its giving me: Dec 7 15:05:34 Vinni-Stagliannos-iMac mds[20]: (/.Spotlight-V100/Store-V1/Stores/4E7D2171-0537-4EC0-A6F2-030AE3988BBF)(Error) IndexSDB in si_writeBackDBO:Error 12 storing dbo(4f253,430,db,47a2b7ead61a7,0,28ce5,20) Dec 7 15:05:35 Vinni-Stagliannos-iMac mds[20]: (/.Spotlight-V100/Store-V1/Stores/4E7D2171-0537-4EC0-A6F2-030AE3988BBF)(Error) IndexCI in index_compact:cant compact writable index: live.2. thanks again for your help. -uketommyv
7. Hi balckosx, I tried the disk utility and removed the mkext file and nothing. I tried updating in safe mode and i still get the kernel panic. Is there another thing i can try? installing this with delta update kernel panics it too. is there a way to install this manually? cuz i think is kping because its writing the new kernel i think or is there a way that shows whats kernel paniking ?it. Thanks again blackosx for the support. -uketommyv
8. Hi blackosx, Thanks for replying. I do have this motherboard. heres what im using: Ga ep45ds3l Intel quad core Q6600 at 2.4ghz 4gb ram Asus GTX 285 1gb (efi string) It KPs while installing. at the part when it says "writing files". then i have to reboot and its back at 10.6.1. I havent touched the main installation. Is there a way to know whats kernel panicking my system. It might be one of the kexts in cham volume. Do you think it might be because of the file "extensions.mkext"?. I unfortunately don't have another system to try it one right now. Do you have any suggestions? thanks again for the help.
9. Hi Blackosx, Thanks again for making the guide and for all of your support. I was wondering if you can help me out with my system, I cant seem to update it to 10.6.2, it kernel panics every time i try to update. I have tried deleting the sleepenabler.kext and updating and nothing I dont know whats causing the problem. Any suggestions. -Thanks again for your help

11. Thank you tmongkol for clearing things out, I appreciate taking the time to help us figure out what was happening and off course doing the hard work for us ,so that we can have working audio in OSX and off course thanks again balckosx for making this awesome guide. All of it has helped greatly to the osx86 community. Thanks again. -uketommyv
12. Hello everyone. Hope someone can shed some light to this. Heres what happened: During my audio tests I had the following files in /E/E patched dsdt.aml, legacy.kext.(NO PATCHED APPLEHDA installed) = no sound then i put this in /E/E patched dsdt.aml,legacy.kext and patched appleHDA = sound Now with that said. here are my tests patched dsdt.aml, patched AppleHDA.kext (NO LEGACY) = no sound NO patch in dsdt.aml, legacy.kext (NO APPLEHDA) = no sound NO patch in dsdt.aml,legacy.kext and applehda.kext = no sound patched dsdt.aml,legacy.kext, AppleHDA.kext) = sound patched dsdt.aml, legacy.kext (NO APPLEHDA) = sound Conclusion: why is it that the last test worked when it didn't before I started my tests? Did the appleHDA file acted as an enabler?. Although Im not sure why or how. If anybody knows why please let us know cuz Im still a new to this.
13. hi balckosx, yes i think i may not need the legacy kext. i tried to see if i can get audio with patched dsdt and legacy kext only and nothing. I could only get it with the patched applehda. when i get home. ill try deleting the legacy and see what happends. @undo_undo Have you tried this kexts? http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=188349 . this are kexts for snow leopard 64bit for the ALC888. If you havent, give them a try. When I get home Ill try to test the kext that i use in 64b. Good luck
14. @ blackosx I think you have to leave the legacy kext in place. At least thats how i have it. Here is what i did. I patched my dsdt, put the applehda kext in E/E and put the legacy kext in there as well and thats it. I can confirm that if you put this all together before the first boot. It works the first time. If you are thinking of putting this in the guide, i suggest putting it as a last resort for fixing audio. Ill make a few tests when i get home from work. Let me know if you need anything else. @undo_undo 1. I haven't checked the system.log file. Ill give it a look as soon as I get home. 2. I haven't experience the pop. I have heard of this problem. I cant really confirm it because my speakers could be suppressing it or I don't experience the problem but as far as I'm concerned, it may give you the pop or it may not. It'll be good if someone else can give the kext a try and check. 3. I haven't tested the kext in x64 . I'm currently troubleshooting my machine because it doesn't start in 64bit mode. I don't think its the kext, because it was doing this from the get go. Ill see what I can do, when I get home.
15. Hi blackosx, Heres what you requested: Where did you get this patched AppleHDA from? I got it from here : http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph...10.6.0#Gigabyte search for GA-965P-DQ6. Its an AppleHDA.kext file for the ALC888 ICH8, works for the ICH10 as well, because I have that one and I'm currently using it. what audio options does it give you? I have regular audio and mic. Haven't tried the rest. does it work from /E/E allowing you to leave the retail install untouched? It works from /E/E and S/L/E I tried both. so yes u can have an untouched system. Let me know if you need anything else.
