  1. This state is not true in some cases. Most hardware manufacturers in the US implement a whitelist in the BIOS of minipci cards. So you can just replace it. If you do and your laptop has the bios restrcition your SOL. Cheers, ed
  2. USB WiFi dongle for 10.4.6

Becareful about giving this advice out. Many mainstream laptops these day have a whitelist in the BIOS that will provide only a small number of cards to work in them. ie. The truemobile will not work in a new HP laptop. That said.. I'm rocking on. with a Dlink DWL122
  3. Racism at Apple

Rock on. I'm cool with pink. I think it will be funny as hell to sit in a coffee shop witha pink laptop. Especially for a apparently fancy lad like me. (i like pocket squares) At the very least a Hello Kitty sticky will do.
  4. Broadcom 570x and 575x

Good question. Since this is a *nix box. i would say /etc/init.d/ make sure it s owned by root and it can be executed.
  5. Broadcom 570x and 575x

Write a script. #!/bin/bash echo "Setting MacAdress" # where en? is you adapter # your mac address in the format of xx:xx:xx:xx:xx ifconfig en0 ether 00:0C:00:00:0C:0C
  6. Broadcom 570x and 575x

    sudo ifconfig here is a sample dump notice en0 and en1?. If you have wireless or something already running chances that is en0 and your broadcom would be en1. lo0: flags=8049<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 16384 inet netmask 0xff000000 inet6 ::1 prefixlen 128 inet6 fe80::1%lo0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x1 gif0: flags=8010<POINTOPOINT,MULTICAST> mtu 1280 stf0: flags=0<> mtu 1280 en0: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 inet6 fe80::20d:93ff:fe35:522e%en0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x4 inet netmask 0xfffffc00 broadcast ether 00:0d:93:35:52:2e media: autoselect (1000baseT <full-duplex>) status: active supported media: none autoselect 10baseT/UTP <half-duplex> 10baseT/UTP <full-duplex> 10baseT/UTP <full-duplex,hw-loopback> 100baseTX <half-duplex> 100baseTX <full-duplex> 100baseTX <full-duplex,hw-loopback> 1000baseT <full-duplex> 1000baseT <full-duplex,hw-loopback> 1000baseT <full-duplex,flow-control> 1000baseT <full-duplex,flow-control,hw-loopback> en1: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 ether 00:03:93:f5:12:36 media: autoselect (<unknown type>) status: inactive supported media: none autoselect 10baseT/UTP <half-duplex> 10baseT/UTP <half-duplex,hw-loopback> 10baseT/UTP <full-duplex> 10baseT/UTP <full-duplex,hw-loopback> 10baseT/UTP <full-duplex,flow-control> 100baseTX <half-duplex> 100baseTX <half-duplex,hw-loopback> 100baseTX <full-duplex> 100baseTX <full-duplex,hw-loopback> 100baseTX <full-duplex,flow-control> 1000baseT <full-duplex> 1000baseT <full-duplex,hw-loopback> 1000baseT <full-duplex,flow-control> fw0: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 4078 lladdr 00:0d:93:ff:fe:35:52:2e media: autoselect <full-duplex> status: inactive supported media: autoselect <full-duplex>
  7. Broadcom 570x and 575x

Do an ifconfig. Your ethernet may not be en0 ie. some other network adapter might be using en0
  8. Broadcom 570x and 575x

Cool. My onboard ethernet for HP NC6220 laptop now works.
  9. Heh. I already tried option 2 and 3. I've not been able to get a dump of the bios. And I tried hacking the id on the firmware of the broadcom card I want to transplant. But the code/binary I downloaded is not working. It does not seem to be reading the eeprom of the card. So I'm stumped.
  10. Wireless Cards That Work

If your using a laptop BEfore you run out and buy a PCMCIA card ensure that your Mac OS X is detecting and loading the driver for your Cardbus device. The reasons are obvious don't make the mistake I did. btw. if you have a Texas Instrument PCIxx21 Cardbus controller. Then you're in a pickle
  11. Please note depending on your laptop, It may be bios locked to only accept a list of preapporved cards. For example I'm trying to figure a way around the fact my Hp laptop (nc6230) will only refuse to boot when I put my broadcom compatible card in.
  12. X700 and other PCIE ATI Radeon finally work

disregard last message. I had the correct kext already. Did some manual hacking and I'm set. Cheers to all who contributed. btw. Its working great on a HP nc6230 ATI X300 Mobility . Device ID 5460
  13. X700 and other PCIE ATI Radeon finally work
