1. Blackosx, thank you for all of your time spent helping everyone, and leave knowing that all of us old school ds3l's are envious of your new rig. I was having trouble with the audio too, but there is a simple solution. Donwload "kext helper" and the latest support files from blackosx. Then drag the 10.6.8 audio kext into "kext helper", type system password in, and hit apply. This has worked for me in 10.6.6 and 10.7.
2. Here ya go, as requested. I don't think I edited this one much. I did have to add some stuff to my org.chameleon.Boot.plist to get 10.6.8 working, let me know if that would be helpful.. Good luck! <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>SMbiosvendor</key> <string>Apple Inc.</string> <key>SMbiosversion</key> <string>MP31.88Z.00C1.B00.080209154</string> <key>SMmanufacturer</key> <string>Apple Inc.</string> <key>SMproductname</key> <string>MacPro3,1</string> <key>SMsystemversion</key> <string>1.0</string> <key>SMserial</key> <string>INSERTYOURSHERE</string> <key>SMfamily</key> <string>MacPro</string> <key>SMboardmanufacturer</key> <string>Apple Inc.</string> <key>SMboardproduct</key> <string>Mac-F42C88C8</string> </dict> </plist>
3. I installed Lion without a hitch, and is working great after patching the audio kext w/ kext helper. I used blackosx guide to install retail 10.6.3, upgraded to 10.6.8 via updates, and then followed this guide to install Lion http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2011/07/xmo...x-107-lion.html I already had an existing osx install, so I didn;t have to mess with #####. I used the audio kext provided in the support files, same one that worked with 10.6.8. The install went without any hiccups or problems, booted first time and it's great. Im using an ep35-ds3l, q6600, 8800gt. Hope this can help someone.
4. I dunno if I can wait, I may take the plunge and purchase it from the app store, see if it installs on my backup. i wonder if I install it on my backup if I could then re-download it on my real osx partition free of charge, or if its a once and done. Blackosx, I've followed your guides and my install went very smoothy, running 10.6.8 without a hitch. THANK YOU for your efforts, it allows us n00bs to participate. Love my hackintosh!

10.6.8 update breaks App Store

I am also having problems with the mac app store. I've done the previous steps outlined with the <key>EthernetBuiltIn</key> <string>Yes</string> and PciRoot=1 but I am still having the same error message. The guide I followed to install 10.6.8 had me remove the com.apple.Boot.plist and replace it with org.chameleon.Boot.plist. Could this be problematic? Here is my org.chameleon.Boot.plist file, I'm new to this and not sure if I did something wrong. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>Kernel</key> <string>mach_kernel</string> <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string></string> <key>arch</key> <string>i386</string> <key>DropSSDT</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>GeneratePStates</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>GenerateCStates</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>GraphicsEnabler</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>Graphics Mode</key> <string>1024x768x32</string> <key>Timeout</key> <string>5</string> <key>ShowInfo</key> <string>No</string> <key>Theme</key> <string>Default</string> <key>EthernetBuiltIn</key> <string>Yes</string> PciRoot=1 </dict> </plist> I'm using an ep35-ds3l with a q6600 and 10.6.8 is otherwise running awesome, no problems. I want to get this working so I can attempt to install Lion, and apparently the app store is going to be the only way.. Any help is appreciated.

Annyoing Firefox issue

Thanks for the response. When I red X close the application, I can't then bring it back up/re open it without quitting and then restarting. And it's not minimized to the right of the task bar. Again, its a minor annoyance that I can live with, but I would like to get rid of it.

Annyoing Firefox issue

Whenever I red-X close firefox on my iPC 10.5.6 install it appears that it closes, but it still has the little blue light under the icon meaning that it is still running. That is not a big deal, but it pisses me off that when I click on firefox again, it does nothing! I have to right click the firefox icon, then hit quit, then I can open it and use it as usual. It's a minor problem, but I have to do it EVERY TIME I want on the internet. Help is appreciated, thanks for reading.

Desktop is larger than my display - wtf?

Man this is horse {censored}! I've been working on this since my last post. No progress, just posting for more info and incase anyone else has this problem. I found out that the native res on my samsung 50" plasma is 1365x768 (720p), and that osx doesn't support that resolution. I downloaded a program called "SwitchResX" and made a custom resolution to fit my tv's native resolution.... and it all went back, my tv just said mode not supported or some BS. Tried to boot up into safemode, and it was all black too! I think it forces the resolution and takes control from OSX. So I had to reinstall again.... One other thought I saw on google was that it could be your tv's overscan setting (which I don't have on my tv) or it could be fixed by using a VGA cable instead of a DVI to HDMI cable or just HDMI. And of course I can't find my damn VGA cables... If anyone can get this working via DVI to HDMI I would be psyched... If I can get this working, I may become a former windows user.
11. After all of the technical stuff to get my mac working, this is a stupid ass problem. I did google it and can't find my answer. Previously I went from JAS 10.5.4 on my 24" monitor, then moved it to my 50" samsung. The display on the 24" monitor was perfect (meaning I could view the entire desktop) and when I moved it to my 50" tv, I can't see the menu bar at the top of the screen. I just installed iPC 10.5.4 (hoping maybe it would fix itself, lol) and am having the same issues. The ZOOM setting is turned off and is zoomed all the way out. I have also changed the resolution to every setting possible with no luck... I really want my mac to be seen in all of it's 50" glory!! My hackmac specs: GA EP35-DS3L V1.0 BIOS F5 Q6600 QUAD CORE 4GB KINGSTON 800 FSB 8800GT 512MB iPC 10.5.4 w/ nvdarwin512 Any suggestions would be appreciated, this is terribly annoying. Thanks, Nate
12. I feel like a dumb SOB. I installed JaS 10.5.4 with no problems and it ran fine. I re-arranged my hard drives and needed to reinstall osx and kept getting that damn error /com.apple.boot.plist My searches told me to get a sata dvd drive, which i've had all along. Here is my brilliant solution to a stupid problem.... TAKE THE DVD OUT OF THE DRIVE ONCE IT IS INSTALLED.. it worked right away after a reboot... error is gone and now im into leopard... Hopefully someone can save themselves some frustration by reading this.

The best benchmark utility

I am trying to decide if Xp or Vista will accompany my osx build. I am interested in gaming performance in windows, and have not ran benchmark utilities for years. I bought Crysis and know there are some bench marks for that to compare xp and vista, but what is the big cheese in benchmarking nowadays? I am willing to post my results in vista-64 and xp-32 bit to help people in the future. Advice appriciated, thanks.
14. ANSWER!! For anyone wondering which OS to run for the best gaming performance: The winner is............. XP! I installed tinyxp and have a huuuuuuuge preformence gain w/ Crysis. I can actually run it on much better settings and the game is more intense to play! If people tell me wtf to run, I will post benchmarks to show the difference between vista x64 and xp 32 bit. I am dl'ing 3dmark06, but I have no idea if this is the common benchmark for the rest of the nerds. (no offense of course, as I am one myself). Again, what benchmarks do you all run?? I will check this again tomorrow morning after work, so please respond! Thanks, Nate
15. bump any ideas? Just wanna keep this toward the top of the thread to get answers! lol Nate
