  1. Radeon HD 5870 / HD 5850

Well, the problem was that I was using the -x32 flag instead of arch=i386 to boot in 32 bit mode, therefore had that nasty kernel panic. Now everything runs smoothly. But hey, thanks anyway for your support!
  2. Radeon HD 5870 / HD 5850

Hi, thanks for the help. Unfortunately that was not the case, as the device ID was already there. And it appears that it was booting finely only because the X3000 kernels had incorrect permissions, now that I fixed them it hangs on a kernel panic. What to check next?
  3. Radeon HD 5870 / HD 5850

Hello everyone, I'm having a really weird problem with my new Sapphire HD5850 Toxic and I hope you people could help me out. I have a fully working 10.6.4 system, single monitor connected to DVI. I installed in S/L/E all of the driver and ATY_Init kexts found on netkas.org and disabled GraphicsEnabler in the boot.plist as I was previously using it on a nVidia card. Problem is, all I get on screen is the Apple logo with the spinning wheel, but I believe the system is running correctly in the background as I get no kernel panic and I can normally reboot it with the ctrl+cmd+eject combo. I already rebuilt system's .mkext and tried all of the possible boot options (-x, different arch= and so on) without much success. Is there any step I'm missing? Thanks everyone! Addendum: bootloader is Chameleon RC4, if this can be of any use.
  4. Hi, this guide and the provided files allowed me to have a flawless boot at my first Snow Leopard attempt EVER, so a big THANK YOU is mandatory! So far, I got everything to work besides the useless (for me at least) JMicron IDE and, unfortunately, audio. This is what I get when using only the provided dsdt.aml file to recognize it: http://yfrog.com/1raudioscreenp The preference panel shows no recognized device, both in input and output. I'm mainly interested in getting the optical SPDIF out working as my only speakers are attached to it. Thanks!
  5. Hello everyone, just a little concern, the last one I'm having on my shiny, fully working (thanks to your suggestions ) Hackintosh. I set my RAM's frequency in BIOS at 888 MHz at latencies of 4-4-4-12 for their best possible performance. They run fully stable in Windows, at boot time, and CPU-Z shows their correct speed. However, in OSX's System Profiler, the modules are all shown to be working at 533 MHz. I don't know if it's just the application that reads the wrong values, or it's the OS forcing the modules to a slower speed. I can't check with benchmarking tools because I can't set it to show the true 888 MHz, thus I can't compare results. Is this normal or what? Thanks for your help!
  6. 8600gt slower than 7300gt?

Why don't you just trash XBench and try some games? Don't rely on that {censored}, trusting to its score my PowerBook's FX5200 performs just as good as my kick-ass ATI HD3850
  7. What about the new ATI HD4850 ?

That will be my next card when it will be supported, so I'll check back here often too
  8. Need Help with ATI HD3650 in 10.5.5 (fuzzy screen)

    Actually I don't Maybe the 2600XT 256 MB, but I wouldn't swear.
  9. Need Help with ATI HD3650 in 10.5.5 (fuzzy screen)

Are you using the same digital connection with both computers? BTW, I just tried the settings I suggested you and noted that System profiler ignores them, but Safari and iTunes (among others) apply them. EDIT: I just remembered how my 3850 video output on the same screen looked less sharp than my brother's MacBook. That's because the hackintoshes' prototype drivers don't set the right horizontal refreshing speed, so image looks a bit blurrier. I guess you have to learn to live with this until there is no official support from Apple. The coders here already did an extraordinary job in making these cards work almost flawlessly, there's nothing more they can do (and by all means this issue is really secondary!)
  10. Need Help with ATI HD3650 in 10.5.5 (fuzzy screen)

That's just the anti-aliasing in OSX, it works like that on every Mac and OSX flavor you will find. To solve it, just go to the Appearance preference panel, disable it for fonts smaller than 12 and set it to Light.
  11. Intel X3100 EFI Strings

No problem at all, thanks for quickly clarifying this Hacktrix! I was more curious than in dire need of it, as I already have a fully working HD 3850 installed.
  12. Intel X3100 EFI Strings

Hello everyone, should this method apply to the X3500 found on G35 chipsets as well? I'm pretty sure it uses the same graphics architecture as X3100, though clocked higher. This might give my P5E-VM a new value Thanks in advance!
  13. ATI Radeon HD pkg installers 10.5.x & 10.6

Hello, updated my HD 3850 (Sapphire w/ blue PCB, PCI-E, 512 mb GDDR3) drivers to the latest ones + the modified Natit kext posted on page 34, everything went smooth as ice. Temperatures are also lower if compared to the 10.5.2 drivers I was using before as the fan is running at a lower speed. Thank you all for your efforts, your job is highly appreciated! Of course, if you need additional info/feedback, feel free to ask!
