  1. Hi Aliasa, I don't really know what Kernel I'm using right now. I can confirm that my most recent update is using a patched Kernel for Dual-Core Shuttering from (http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=97966). I don't know exactly what kernel that fix patched. I assume it's using the vanilla kernel using the TSC sync XNU patch (http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=117558). I'm kinda scared to use a different kernel to test. I've had bad resutls from switching back and forth. I haven't found a good guide on experimenting with kernels. Maybe it's better if you can PM me with the info at this point. I think we're straying off topic
  2. Upgrade from 10.5.2 to 10.5.5 worth it?

I upgaded to 10.5.5 only because the iphone SDK requires 10.5.4 to run. If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't have upgraded.
  3. AppleHDA Solution - Work in progress

I could very well be wrong, but I assumed the patcher does everything automatically. It worked for me just doing that. Maybe someone could verify or disprove my statement. You can also try one of the other .txt's. I saw many versions of alc880.
  4. AppleHDA Solution - Work in progress

Look at the very first post in this topic. At the bottom of it you'll see "How to use AppleHDA Patcher:" The second link under that goes to a site that has txt's for a bunch of audio devices. ALC880 is there (your job to find which one of the multiple versions work with your hardware).
  5. I was really hoping that would work. It didn't wake up. As you can see from the terminal output, my hibernatemode is now 0. What does that 0 indicate anyway? $ pmset -g Active Profiles: Battery Power -1 AC Power -1* Currently in use: sleep 0 displaysleep 15 autorestart 0 hibernatefile /var/vm/sleepimage hibernatemode 0 halfdim 1 lidwake 1 ttyskeepawake 1 disksleep 10
  6. iPod OS X

I don't mind. My ipod is a 10gb I had for years. It's done its time. But even so, how would this "destroy" it. Wouldn't all you have to do is resync it to itunes and all the stuff will be restored? or do you have to format it first. What is an ipod's native format?
  7. What has happened to research?

I want to say, I'm a noob/inexperienced guy. And I admit it. I went through this forum inside out around and about and I still am reading and reading. I must have re-installed the Kalyway disc a good 30+ times by now getting to where I am (and I don't think I'm done installing). Have I learned much? Yes. Have I utilized this board? Yes. Have I asked stupid questions? Probably. Have I asked a question without trying to search for the answer? Never. But let me say, I would probably ask less stupid questions if the search function was a little better or this forum was better organized. I find myself seeing mutiple duplicated topics all saying the same things. I find searching on a string may not turn up results when I know there's a topic on it somewhere. I find myself on here more than the OSx86 wiki where I think most of this information should be. I see there are multiple wiki's out there people create cause they don't want to manage their forum topic. (just today I found an answer to a question I asked buried in page 40-something of a 100+ page topic, in a forum I wouldn't have even guessed) I love this forum. But as a noob, please don't be at haste to criticize us who are trying to learn. As you all know, this is a difficult subject as is. Some of us just really have trouble finding answers using some of these tools.
  8. iPod OS X

I hope I don't get flammed by this comment, but would it be possible to install OSX on an ipod, but to use it as a bootable external hard drive? I have an old ipod that's replaced by my iPhone. It would be cool to bring this back out into the sunlight and make it used for something other than gathering dust.
  9. kill4kam23, I am having the same issue you had where internal speakers work but headphone jack doesn't. I'm going to try this when I get home. Just to verify, you used the sigmatel9200.txt with the AppleHDAPatcherv1.20 ? Also, I'm curious since I got a feeling your install process was similiar to mine. Can your Dell wake up from sleep? EDIT: Well I just tried this out and it works! I have sound from my headphone jack and internal speakers. I will say, while it doesn't mute, if I have the headphones plugged in and turn the main volume all the way down, the headphones still have sound. So I think maybe this is sorta like mute?
  10. AppleHDA Solution - Work in progress

Truthfully, nothing really. It worked OOB with the Kalyway 10.5.2 install. The only thing I selected in the "Customize" under "Audio" was sigmatel_9200_inspiron_9400. Right after that reboot, I had audio coming out of my internal speakers. I don't know what kext that maps to. Since then, I updated my box to a 10.5.5, but I kept the previous audio settings. (if you look at my signature, I have a link that details what exactly I did.) EDIT: I got the headphone jack and internal speakers to work. I found this post: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=798502 It works like a charm.
  11. Wow. This is impressive. I only have 2 frequencies on my CPU, 800 and 1200. It took opening 10 apps and a Verify on the Disk Image to see the indicator go from 800 to 1200, but I see it works now. Thanks for showing me this kext. As for sleep, I did not know there are different sleep states. I should be more precise. I believe the machine can sleep. Activating sleep from the menu shuts down everything and the power LED on the laptop slowly blinks. The problem is waking it back up. It won't activate back. I'm interested to know your opinion.
  12. AppleHDA Solution - Work in progress

I noticed my headphone jack is not working. Yet my internal speakers are working fine. I plug in my headphones into the jack and the audio from my internal speaker shuts off, yet no audio comes out of the headphones. I see under System Preferences -> Sound, the output changes automatically from "Internal Speakers" to "Headphones" as soon as I plug it in. I believe I am using the audio drivers straight from the Kalyway 10.5.2 install which ran OOB. I have a Sigmatel 9200 on a Dell Latitude d420 laptop (specs and what I did to install in my sig below). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
  13. Thank you, aliasa_anderson. I downloaded it and installed it. I did the test on the wiki and can see I have option to switch frequency. However, I'm a little confused. What does this kext actually do? I see the latest version does "automatic auto-throttling" so I wouldn't be able to even see this. How do you know it's actually working? My sleep still doesn't work even with this (though I don't know if this was supposed to fix that).
  14. That's a good idea on the Ubuntu. I made a bootable pen drive version a while back. I just have to find it Could you explain or link me to "Mercurysquad's IntelSpeedsteepkext"? I tried doing a search for it, but I didn't turn up anything worth noting. Currently I'm using I think a mod'ed vanilla kernel that enables dual core (I think...at this point I have no idea) My topic post here describes what I did to this point: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=135049
  15. I did a quick search and found this: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=83544 Do we have the same wifi card? I did not have to change anything on the Network Wireless for mine to work. I would suggest trying that. Also, for me the easiest way I saw I had CPUS=1 not set is I would see the "welcome" video very choppy. Thinking about it, it also effected my wireless connection making it drop and come back on all the time. Did you try booting with a "-v -s" flag to see if that works? Might have to just erase and reinstall. God knows I've done that lots of times
