  1. Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R?

Does anyone have a simple install method for Snow Leopard for this board?
  2. MicroATX buying thoughts

This board can only support 2 gb of ram. Its unstable past that.
  3. Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R?

Has anyone tried to use two ATI cards with this board? Any successful attemps with CrossfireX and OSX86?
  4. do you own another mac?

From my experience with the beast that is Hackintosh, you can never be too happy. It has the ability to "sense" you are happy, and it will punish you for that. Be mad, expect the worst and you may be surprised. Reinstall using boot 132.
  5. I had retail 10.5.4 and there was not one problem. As for the fan, no. I have been following Aqua Mac's postings but I have not been able to find a work around. I bought an Antec VCool fan that fits in a expansion slot under the graphics card and it sucks cool air from the outside and blows it onto the gfx fan. I also made sure there was proper ventilation in the case (2x120mm fans, arctic silver 5, after market heatsink for cpu) Again, these are not fixes, but they need to be done considering the 9800gtx's fan problems. Good luck with everything. Have fun. Hint of advice: TIME MACHINE!!!! USE IT! back everything up before you start f-ing with kexts. QUESTION: What BIOS are you using. I am currently on f5, but people said they are having a lot of luck with f8.
  6. Grey screen of death after install and reboot

I have the same mobo. Suggestions: Make sure AHCI is enabled. boot with -f try that.
  7. Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R?

Hmm. It may be. I had no problems upgrading from 10.5.4 retail boot 132 to 10.5.5. The only problem i have now is that if I don't boot using -f I get a kernal panic. Try loading fail safe settings in the BIOS and turning on AHCI.
  8. Maybe bought a pirated version of Leopard?

I don't know about this one... My GF's pop bought a family pack for 10.4 and she had some funky looking DVD's. Her dad got a bad batch of discs (what are the odds that all 5 wouldnt work), returned them to apple and they gave him DVD 's that looked sorta like that, but more professional. One DVD was a straight copy they did at the Apple store cause it was an Apple DVD but the genius wrote the serial number on it and signed it. Very odd for Apple.
  9. I have the EP-45 DS3R and it worked great OOB. No need to configure Firewire or LAN. Audio needs some work, but it is way easy. I was in the same situation as you, I wanted to build a good mac and a semi good gaming machine for about 1200. Here is what I went with: EP45-DS3R Mobo 4x2gb Corsair 800mhz Dominator Ram (8GB total) Intel Core2Duo E8500 3.16Ghz, stock fan ( I picked this because it was affordable and I can always upgrade when quad prices drop) EVGA 9800 GTX. Its worth the 185 bucks. I got QE/CI working with Aqua Mac's instructions. 500GB Seagate 7200 SATA (for the steal price of $69) 320GB WD 7200 SATA (for my mac partition) Linksys W300N (that may be the wrong code) N wireless. Antec Sonita III case w/500W PSU (i need to upgrade) Antec vCool fan for 9800gtx card Samsung DVD-rw SATA Antex 120 LED front fan. Now this blows, I bought the fan for 13.99 and found out my video card is too big for the fan to be placed in there. I couldnt take the sucker back and its too cheap to sell on ebay, so I had to rig it in there with some tape. Made ghetto Nonetheless, the machine is fast. Geekbenched recently to 4300.
  10. Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R?

xBench = 295, eh. Geekbench=4295, eh as well. Better than my MBP (2.16 Intel Duo, 2GBRAM, 100GB HD, 256 ATIx1600) which got Geekbecnhd at 2200.
  11. Installed Leo....

First off we need your sys info. Are you using SATA? If so, make sure AHCI is enabled. I get the endless circle on the grey screen when my AHCI isnt enabled. I think it is your bios settings.
  12. Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R?

I just used the basic DFE boot 132 with retail 10.5.4 DVD. I took out NVKush because I wanted to use EFI for my 9800 GTX, which kinda blow donkey balls in mac. And yes, 8GB RAM runs great. I have 4x2gb corsair dominators and it screams. I just wish I could overclock my CPU without the mobo freaking out on me. Go Devils. EDIT: Here is a link to the EASIEST BOOT 132 guide. I just followed these instructions and got it right the first time. http://menoob.com/2008/09/04/hackintosh-in...il-dvd-on-a-pc/ Question: Could I install another graphics card that is different from my original. For example: I have a 9800 GTX, could I toss in a 8800GT? If so, I would definatly try for two graphics cards.
  13. Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R?

I wanted to thank everyone for their help over the past week. I have my system up and running. I must have partitioned my drive 5 times and installed every time until I got it right. So many restarts too.... As such, if anyone is reading this post and needs help with their machine, PM me and ill share me experiences. Dont be shy. My rig: CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 3.16ghz (both cores work) GPU: EVGA 9800 GTX (working using Aqua Mac efi strings! QE/CI works!!!!) MOBO GA EP-45DS3r (of course) Restart, shutdown, time machine, sound (only stero out of line output jack) all work. Wireless : Linksys N USB with RA drivers and some changes to the plist 4GB ram. SATA Samsung DVD 500 PSU+Antec Sonita III case Boot 132 using retail 10.5.4 disc (this was a {censored}, PM me if you need help), upadte through software update to 10.5.5. Boots without CD, fast as hell, not quiet thoough... I have all my fans running crazy fast cause the 9800 GTX has a fan problem in Mac OSX. If someone was able to get all the sound outputs work, please let me know!!! Thanks, J

  15. Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R?

I am having massive problems with this board. Installed 10.5.2 Kalyway last night, combo updated to 10.5.3, apple updated to 10.5.4, followed Aqua Mac's instructions on getting the EVGA 9800 GTX working but couldnt for the life of me figure out how to fix the audio and the hard drives. I have rolled through this thread about 100 times, tried the associated kext's, but no audio. Also, the hard drives come up as externals, any idea on that one? Beisdes this, it is a good board. It did not register my CPU clock speed correctly, but I was able to change the clockspeed to 9X in the BIO which came up correctly. Should I go with a DFE retail install? Specs: CPU: E8500 (Intel Core2Dup 3.17, only registared as 2.67) MOBO: GA EP45-DS3R GFX: EVGA 9800 GTX SATA DVD (some generic brand, works great) WD SATA 300GB HD. 4GB Cosair RAM (2x2) 800 I followed the BIOS settings that were linked to this page, but no luck. Any help would be appreciated.
