  1. It was the integrated video not fully supporting QE/CI. I later scored a free NV 7300GS and got it working with NVEnabler. Youtube problems are now gone.

    Need help with 10.6.8 update

HUGE THANKS to Pooky and Latin for sticking with me through this thread! Wouldn't have gotten this far without your help!

    Need help with 10.6.8 update

OK QE/CI Working! I tried several injector kexts, but the only one I could get to work was NVEnabler 0.1.kext. Installed using Kext Wizard, then used the wizard to rebuild the mkext and now I am in business... Front Row, Dashboard Ripples, resolution change... even SLEEP! hmm... maybe now I might give that Lion install another try...

That was from the ModUSB install... I think that's what it picked after detecting my Integrated Ethernet... I'll try that flag at boot to see if it helps me get into the Lion install partition... Actually I just scored a free Nvidia 7300 GS. If I can get QE/CI to work with it in Snow Leopard, I'll be happy leaving this machine at 10.6.8, while I collect components for a proper Lion build down the road.

    Need help with 10.6.8 update

I am now! arch=i386 got me back into SL... Yay! that was one of the flags I added to my boot.plist after the 10.6.8 updte, but now I see that I lost the use of that once I updated the Chameleon. However, when I try to boot into the Lion install partition, using that same flag, I end up here. That's some progress, right?
  6. Does anyone have an Extras Folder for iMac8,1?

    Need help with 10.6.8 update

Finally got back to working on this... The PCIRootUID=4 didn't change anything (neither did trying 1,2 or 3). Out of sheer boredom, and since I couldn't even boot back into Snow Leopard, I decided to just start over. I reinstalled Snow Leopard from scratch, updated to 10.6.8, added the npci=0x2000 to my bootlist, updated the Chameleon, created my Lion boot partition and now this is where I am at... at least I am getting past that Memory Allocation Error in my previous pic. When I try to boot from the Lion install partition: https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-byMCHSKt9dw/T5dA4DZgpdI/AAAAAAAABy8/FA5sS1u7dbg/s512/IMG_20120424_190838.jpg When I try to boot into 10.8.6: https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Q7cojSDXNXA/T5dCkpDIc-I/AAAAAAAABzE/nbZrAIg9n0Y/s512/IMG_20120424_191613.jpg

    Need help with 10.6.8 update

I update the and now I get this when I try to reboot into SnowLeopard... is it not back compatible? Hope I didn't eff up my system... not that it would be hard to start over or anything.

    Need help with 10.6.8 update

I'v got a working SnowLeopard... I'll give DSDT Editor a whirl... I did go ahead and try the Lion install partition using Pooky's instructions... First time I tried to boot to it... "can't find mach_kernel" Doh! So I copied mach_kernel from the Install DVD, to the new partition, but it just boot loops after selecting it in chameleon...

    Need help with 10.6.8 update

No, I'm not trying to build a perfect box... I plan on building a stronger setup from scratch later on this summer... but for now, this Optiplex was a free PC, so I'm just seeing how far I can get on as little coin as possible... I'm going to throw the cheapest GeForce 8 or 9 series I can find and see how it goes. Looks like I should be able to score one for around $30. As always, Thanks for all of the continued help! I wouldn't have gotten this far without you!

    Need help with 10.6.8 update

ATI x200 Chipset. Integrated Video... This is the board. After a bit of searching the interwebs... It appears that the x200 is just not QE/CI compatible... I guess I will be finding a new video card... any cheap recommendations? Closest thing I can find is a nVidia 8400GS, which should work in 10.6.8, but may not in Lion... I could go ahead with the Lion install, unless not having QE/CI is going to cause problems in the meantime...

    Need help with 10.6.8 update

In that contents folder, I have: AppleATIATA.kext AppleATIPATA.kext Thanks for the Lion install info... that seems simple enough. I think I will hold up on the upgrade until I can get a few issues ironed out on my current SL setup first. Right now I don't believe I have QE/CI working. I get a black screen on Front Row, and Youtube videos are either Black screened with audio or VERY choppy Audio/Video. Other types of streaming video work fine, but anything YouTube is {censored}. I also can't play DVDs. DVD Player says "Valid Video Device Can Not Be Found.." Been searching, trying to determine if my Integrated Graphics can support QE/CI or not... or if I'm just missing a kext... Not finding any definitive answers so far.
  14. Youtube is practically non-existant. Either Black screen with sound, or no sound/video, or on a lower res video, I may get both, but it will be very choppy. I've tried Chrome, Safari and FF, and all share similar issues. Other streaming video from MSN or NFL.com, etc. work fine. QT video also work fine. Oh, and by the way... Safari isn't just limited to Youtube issues. Safari is beachballing all over, even during basic web navigation... general web nav seems to me normal on Chrome and FF... My specs are in my sig, and I have Flash11 & Perian installed, although I tried uninstalling both and my original problem still exists.

Your awesome, Pook. That fixed it with a catch. Changing to mach_kernel was fine, but when I changed the arch=i386 to npci=0x2000, I hung here on boot: Which just so happened to be the exact same spot I was hanging, when I was trying to boot way back in 10.6.3 using mach_kernel... Anyways... I had to use the arch=i386 flag at the chameleon boot screen to get back in. Then I just added it back to the plist, using both on the same line: <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string>arch=i386 npci=0x2000</string> Now I'm golden... flag free booting! [/snow_leopard_chapter] ----- So yeah! I'm ready for Lion. I'm armed with my Lion image and am ready to do some damage. Ya, I probably won't try "the Beast", then... I downloaded the app from the app store at work, then made a install/recovery dvd like this. I figured I'd use one of the methods here. Anything else I should know before jumping in?
