  1. Okay... I updated to F8h from Tweaktown, and boot times are much faster. Thanks! I also figured out my Ethernet issue. In the PrefPane, I had to manually delete my Airport connection, manually add a second Ethernet connection, apply, close, and reopen the PrefPane. Vióla!... or perhaps I should say, "Duh!" On to figure out what stupid, obvious thing I am doing wrong on the front panel audio issue.
  2. Thanks! I will give this a try tomorrow.

    Stretched Boot Screen

I am kinda a noob myself, but I think you can fix this by editing the lines: <key>Graphics Mode</key> <string>1280x1024x32</string> in the "com.apple.boot.plist" file. I am not sure where Kalaway keeps this file, but it is in the /Extra/ folder on my install.
  4. I am a noob to the Hackintosh world, but setting up an excellently working system was extremely easy using Digital Dreamers installer for the GA-EX58-UD5. THANK YOU DD! I have a few minor issues that I am hoping you guys can help me work out. I posted these question under DD's tutorial in the Genius Bar, but that thread is so gigantic I am afraid my post has been lost. Firstly, only one of my Ethernet jacks works correctly. When I plug in the second one, it shows up in my Network preferences as an Airport connection. It works okay as such for a while, but it will eventually cause a kernel panic if I leave it plugged in. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a known solution? The second minor issue I have is I cannot figure out how to get the front audio panel working. I tried installing some of the optional audio drivers that came with the installer, but this results in a kernel panic on start up. Can anyone offer any suggestions as to how to get this to work? Finally, I am wondering if there is a way to speed up booting. Is it possible to cache the AHCI settings so that I do not have to sit through the long AHCI bios boot? Also, I tried to edit the "timeout" setting in com.apple.boot.plist to get Chameleon to boot OS X more quickly... but to no avail. Where can I change this setting? Thanks again, and sorry for the noob questions. Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 920 core i7 Sapphire 4870 w/ 1gig RAM 6 gig Corsair DDR 3 memory
  5. I have a Sapphire ATI 4870 in my box and it works beautifully with only the deffault patches that come with DD's installer. Other Leopard supported cards are the ATI 3870, HD2600 (I think) and the NVIDIA 8800gt. You can do a search for what cards Apple has been putting in their boxes the last few years for a better list.
  6. It sounds like you are planning to do so some real work on this machine. IMHO it may be truly worth the negligible cost of picking up a video card supported by 10.5.7. Unless you are looking for a challenge, or have absolutely $0 to spend, messing with the non-native cards is not worth the hassle. As for the raid, I highly recommend using your raid as a media drive only. Use your single drive to store your OS and your project files... back it up regularly. Believe it or not, your system will run faster when working with media this way than it will when using the RAID as your system drive. Furthermore, striping two disks into a RAID 0 doubles your chances of heartbreaking, catastrophic failure. TRUST ME on this one. I have lived it way too many times. While you can generally recapture your media should such a catastrophe occur, you cannot regain the hours and upon hours of work you put into the project files. I live by this rule: NEVER EVER keep project files on a non-redundant RAID.

Front Panel Audio, 2nd Ethernet Port and Boot Time Hello Digital Dreamer and all, I am a noob to the Hackintosh world, but setting up an excellently working system was extremely easy using Digital Dreamers installer. 8. http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=975X7AA-8EKRS2H At $40.00 the price seems unbelievably great, and it has all of the features I need. The individual components seem compatible: Intel 975x chipset: SIL3132 Sata: Yukon 8055 This will be my first Hackintosh build and I consider myself an advanced novice builder. Do you guys have any opinions about this board one way or another? Thanks!

    DVD authoring / compatibility problem.

Try a different brand DVD-R if you have not already. Make sure you are not using DVD +R, or any variation of DVD RW. I have had the best luck with Sony brand DVD-Rs. If you are planning on having the DVD replicated... they do not necessarily need a disk. The are going to load your "Video_TS" folder into a system which will make a glass master. Therefore, they should be able to take a usb drive, a flash drive, firewire drive etc. If you are having the DVD duplicated... they do need a disk. But if you are placing a decent size order, they should be happy to take your "Video_TS" folder and burn you a master at no or minimal charge. It sounds to me like the replicators are trying to screw you.

Any pro Final Cut/video app users?

Wow RFX74! That sounds great! What hardware are you using?
  11. Hello All, I am (obviously) a noob, and very curious about rolling out a Hackintosh system for professional video editing and motion graphis production. I live by Final Cut, Color, Motion and After Effects. Is anyone else using these apps in a professional capacity? What is your experience? Do you have any reccomendations? Thanks in advance.
