    I have a shiny new HD5870 sitting here. I will eventually use the native drivers from 10.7 -- but I'm not there yet. So, who has a compiled version on the 'boot' file from Kabyl r748?     Simple Question

    I've been searching this forum for an hour now. I have a simple question I cannot seem to find the answer to: What PCI NICs (wired) are fully plug and play compatible with Snow Leopard AND support Wake On LAN? I would prefer a Gig NIC...but at this point I'd just like some options. I don't want to have to install a kext, I don't want to edit an existing kext, and I want WOL to work. I don't even need wireless. Please let me know of any that meet these criteria. Thanks, Mak

  6. So I've attempting to track down some random panics I've been getting. Let me state from the beginning -- I do not believe this is my panic problem. I've been going through logs with a fine-toothed comb and noticing frequent occurrences of the following: Jul 25 21:33:34 snowmain firmwaresyncd[61]: /sbin/fsck_msdos exited with 8 Jul 25 21:33:34 snowmain firmwaresyncd[61]: Command /sbin/fsck_msdos output: ** /dev/disk0s1\nInvalid BS_jmpBoot in boot block: fa31c0 Jul 25 21:33:34 snowmain kextd[17]: updated kernel boot caches /dev/disk0s1 is the EFI partition of my install. This is HFS+ --as I assume most people's are. Reading documentation and looking at the code of firmwaresyncd it seems pretty obvious what this is used for. It seems that if someone happened to format their EFI partition FAT this could cause MAJOR problems. Should we be warning people about this? Has anyone simply disabled firmwaresyncd? I assume we could hunt down the launchd item or even just rename the binary. Has anyone done this and what might be the potential issue with doing this?

    Chameleon Supported Cards

    This is an extremely simple question which I cannot seem to find the answer for. What video cards are support by Chameleon using the GraphicsEnabler functionality? I currently have an 8800GT and am thinking about upgrading to something a little more powerful in light of Steam coming to Macs(Hacks). I would like to stick with Nvidia for driver compatibility on other platforms. Any idea what cards are supported? Thanks, Mak

    Random KPs

    I want to talk about random KPs for a second. I am referring to when you've booted SL, you've been working for awhile, and then (out of no where).....a KP. Booting back into SL and checking console.app isn't very revealing. I'm sure everyone has plenty there, but in my case there is nothing relevant. There is certainly nothing at the moment of KP that would suggest a smoking gun. Sometimes this happens under load, and sometime it happens when things are relatively idle. I am using a GA-ep35-ds3l. Using chameleon, kexts provided by blackosx (and his installation method), and a DSDT.aml for sound, lan, and graphics. By all accounts this is a very clean install. I have rebuilt kext caches. Is it necessary to do this after installing apps that use kernel mods (vmware fusion)? If so, how does a normal mac handle this? I've also seen some speculate that the install should be performed from a drive running SL (this appears in more than one thread). My question is, why? If its a permissions issue upon install causing the panic should we not be able to fix that? SHould we not be seeing something in the console.app logs (perm errors)? I guess I'm looking for a more empirical answer here.... --Mak

    Try to install SL on a GA-P35-DS3

    I have this card working from a DSDT.aml. Ultimately, I had to select some options that the hardware profiler did not show (PGEP for sure, trying to remember others). I created DSDT.aml's for pretty much any combination I thought might work and booted with each one until it worked. I think #6 was the one Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. --mak

    Text Fuzziness

    I attempted to test this by using an EFI string in my com.apple.boot.plist. Fonts are once again HORRIBLE. They are fuzzy as could be. Boot back into leopard using the same string and they're crisp like you'd expect. So...this has nothing to do with the method if injection. It is evidently dependent on Snow and a 8800GT 512MB. Is there no one else out there that is seeing this? --Mak

    Try to install SL on a GA-P35-DS3

    I started my install on a clean drive after managing to get a workable install with, more or less, blackosx's guide. I deviated from my working install in the following ways: 1. Installed Chameleon 2.0 RC2 (is there a reason RC1 is preferred?) 2. Installed Chameleon on the drive's EFI partition as opposed to a separate HFS+ partition (but I did, in fact use the HFS+ EFI option for the chameleon install). Once I did that, I just mounted that drives EFI partition and copied my boot file, and Extras folder over. KP with the 'version not set' errors like others have reported. Now that I've typed all this out it seems rather likely this is a permissions problem from just copying the file over. As if the bootloader cannot read the com.apple.boot.plist.... I'm at work now....I'll try to correct permissions when I get home this evening.
  15. So...after my SL install was all set I ran the migration assistant. Now SL wont boot (it will in safe). Its hanging on the vmnet and vboxdrv mods. This is presumably due to a diff hardware config (perceived diff hardware config due to diff method -- dsdt.aml vs. EFI strings). Be warned....it might be a good idea to install these fresh. I'll {censored} around in safe mode until I get it cleaned up....or just move on to my prod drive. --Mak
