Cannot force 32-bit on Lion install

Never even crossed my mind to use <key>arch</key> <string>i386</string> instead of <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string>arch=i386</string> Thanks husaber, you're a godsend.
  2. I've tried editing the chameleon boot file, default apple boot file in /L/P/, using arch=i386, yet it still seems to boot to 64-bit mode (as per verbose mode) and kernel panics once it begins to load my nvidia driver... com.apple.geforce7xxx Is there some magical way that this flag suddenly takes effect that I'm not aware of? I've been fighting this for a few hours now. I've tried a few guides including the most recent here http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/267862-tutorial-install-lion-107x-on-dell-xps-m1210/ I dropped that guide after it failed to work after installing everything and decided to go with HackBoot. Setup works great, looks great, has all the nice effects in the right resolution, but once I go to boot up it just panics.
  3. *** My CPU results are invalid *** My Core i5 was running underclocked at 2ghz. I will test it in a minute. To add, my GTX 280 results may be skewed as I have a defect card... maybe not though. (Runs under load at 105c) Anyways, I'll post the results of the all the tests over with this ATI Radeon HD 4870 1gb and the correctly clocked Core i5-750. GeForce 200 series support

Cursor not updating / Random artifacts, Nvidia GTX280 (EVGA) Currently I'm using Nvenabler 64 on 10.6.3. Symptoms: - Cursor sometimes does not update. For example, if you hover over text it turns to selection, when you hover over the desktop it's a pointer. Mine sometimes stays as the text selection cursor. - Random graphic glitches. Finder buttons become differently colored than normal, menubar becomes completely transparent. Anyone know what could be causing this? I've used nvinject and the errors seem to go away, but animation isn't as smooth (fade-ins when using grid stacks on the dock).

    Thats it.. Ive HAD IT!

I feel your pain... for more than a year I've been stuck on this system that has an inevitable "Still waiting for root device" on boot up. Give iPC a shot, that is the only one I've had near usable (Random mouse cursor skipping and restarts when using NTFS drives). Soon (about 4 days) I will have a working Hackintosh though... can't wait to upgrade from this hellhole of an EVGA board (so many issues with it, should've RMAed probably) and go back to my beloved company Gigabyte.

    Strange crashing

Update: !!! I think I fixed it I decided the core usage may have been directly related to the problem so decided to Google for a bit... came across a mouse-lag thread regarding an AMD processor that happened to be fixed by a Voodoo kernel. I know AnV was slimmed down a bit, so I decided to try a different 9.8.0 kernel (Qoopz, found here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=179562). I booted, started copying a file, and boom! 25% usage on both cores instead of just one. 2.3gb file copied, no crash... ~500 small files copied, no crash. It is a LOT faster now too. Edit: maybe not, but it's much more stable.

    Strange crashing

New update... problem is still occuring. Go figure. This time it crashed on copying a lot of small files. All USB devices seized to work (and network, I think). Still nothing in the log files, but this is what my CPU was doing at the time: I think the core usage is key to the thing that is wrong... but I don't know how I'd go about fixing that. Any advice? Please guys... :/

    iatkos afp problems

I'm already on 10.5.8, and System950.kext does not exist. System.kext and Seatbelt.kext are the two that were included with the combo update. I think I'll give the Seatbelt.kext on this forum a shot. Edit: Nevermind, the Seatbelt.kext I found earlier was just extracted from the update... no need for it.

    Strange crashing

Update: Turns out that it's file copying that causes this crash... can't find anything in the logs as to why it would be doing it. Anyone have an idea? I think I'll uninstall and reinstall Mac FUSE and NTFS-3g to see if it helps any. Edit: I can easily reproduce the error by copying a larger (1gb+) file from a NTFS partition.

    Mouse Lag Issue

I'm only seeing results about laptops using 10.6 (Snow Leopard)... I'm using 10.5.8 on a desktop. Should I try the Snow Leopard kext or would that break my setup? If you have any other information about where I could obtain the kext, please let me know. Went ahead and gave this a shot, didn't fix it.

    Mouse Lag Issue

Every so often my mouse will jump a few pixels (about 10) in the direction of movement. It's doing this even after deleting AppleUpstreamUserClient.kext. Does anyone know what may be causing this? Below is my current install. Core system: iPC 10.5.6 PPF4 [selected AppleNForceATA.kext for chipset, replaced with newer (see below), everything else unchecked] Combo Update to 10.5.8 [Vanilla System and Seatbelt (10.5.8)] nVidia driver from netkas for GTX280 found here: http://netkas.org/?p=109 - Quartz Enabled via osx86tools nForceLan.kext found here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=125569 IOUSBFamily.kext found here: http://www.projectosx.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=337 AnV 9.8.0 Kernel found here: http://www.infinitemac.com/f36/anv-xnu-9-8-0-v1-6-t3651/ Updated AppleNForceATA.kext found here: http://code.google.com/p/darwin-ata/downloads/list (UNTEXTED zip) NTFS-3G and MacFUSE Deleted AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext Deleted AppleUpstreamUserClient.kext [Extensions cleared since delete] Chameleon 2.0RC2 found at the Chameleon Bootloader home (unlinkable). Also note that I am booting with maxmem=3072... hopefully to cure my memory panics. Strange crashing

Here lately I've been getting some strange crashes when messing around in Mac... First time I was on a fresh install, only using the nForceLan.kext (installed with osx86tools) for LAN and AppleNForceATA chipset (selected from customize) on iPC 10.5.6 PPF 4. At the time, I was browsing the web; after I opened quite a few tabs, the screen would continue to work but my mouse, keyboard, and network stopped working (not sure what cores were at). [Vanilla Kernel, 10.5.6] Second time was the same scenario as first. This time, everything installed: Combo Update to 10.5.8 [Default System and Seatbelt (10.5.8)] nVidia driver from netkas for GTX280 found here: http://netkas.org/?p=109 - Quartz Enabled via osx86tools IOUSBFamily.kext found here: http://www.projectosx.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=337 AnV 9.8.0 Kernel found here: http://www.infinitemac.com/f36/anv-xnu-9-8-0-v1-6-t3651/ Updated AppleNForceATA.kext found here: http://code.google.com/p/darwin-ata/downloads/list (UNTEXTED zip) NTFS-3G and MacFUSE Deleted AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext Deleted AppleUpstreamUserClient.kext Other than this, everything is unchanged. I started a copy from a samba FS from another computer (15gb or so), then started adding files to library in iTunes from a NTFS drive on a SATA controller (a good 4000 or so files, no copying involved though), then clicked the IRC window to start chatting, then bam. Core0 jumped to 100% and core1 stayed around 5%; keyboard and mouse froze, song in iTunes quit playing, network file transfer halted (unreachable host), but songs were still being added to the library. What could be the cause of this? System specs below. Motherboard: EVGA 750i SLI FTW [Chipset: nForce] LAN: On-Board nForce Processor: Intel Core2Duo E8400 @ 3.0GHz (SMBIOS detects 3.1GHz Unknown) RAM: 4GB OCZ Reaper @ 800MHz Hard-Drives: 1x SATA (On controller SATA A0, not used as Mac boot partition) 2x IDE (Primary is Mac boot partition, Secondary is Windows) DVD Drive: Completely not working on Mac OS X, so unplugged from SATA control Sound Card: USB Audio (Creative) Creative Sound Blaster Live (Soon to be removed if causing errors, no drivers installed on Mac partition) Video Card: EVGA GTX 280 SSC Edition [1GB] EDIT: The nForceLan.kext I am using can be found here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=125569
  15. Fortunately the card reader now detects SD cards inserted while running Mac, not only at boot time.
