  1. I've been planning on using Vista's bootloader to load my OSs with an editor for it, so I installed Ubuntu without grub, and then installed the XxX flavor of OS X. However, when I installed it, it 'deleted' my bootloader, or did something to it. The kicker is that the install failed, so I can't get to any of my OSs! I'm thinking of trying to reinstall, but how would I go about fixing windows? I don't have a vista restore CD, its Server 2008, so all I can do is a full reinstall. Are there any utilities that you guys know of?

    Having trouble cloning OSX

Is a day enough to wait to bump? Are there any other flavors of OS X that might be better for me than to update Kalyway? That was my plan once I got the backup up and running.
  3. I've made a DMG of my current OS X install, and would like to install that on another partition so that I can test upgrades and stuff. But when I erase the 25GB partition and format HFS+, it does not mount and calls it a linux partition, even though when I'm in PartedMagic it sees it as HFS+. I've even created the HFS+ in Parted Magic, but it still does not recognize it or mount it. I think it might have something to do with whatever enables me to read NTFS, whatever was included with Kalyway. Just a guess. I installed NTFS-3g and MacFuse but that did not seem to help. It also seems like I'm only 'allowed' one HFS+ partition by OS X, but that does not make any sense. Any help is appriciated! Thank you! (Computer specs in sig, but if you need more I can tell you. The only 'modification' is the faster memory, otherwise it is a stock DV6885SE laptop)
  4. anyone at all? I'll keep on replying, I'm persistent. Although I did restore from Time machine in segments, I would like to figure it out so I can safely copy lots of files.
  5. Could the time machine freezing/copying flies freezing have to do with the NTFS driver and the Ext3 driver? Maybe a re-install without those will help?
  6. When I try to restore a backup from time machine, it freezes. (As in the mouse 'spins' and the windows are unresponsive) The normal force quit does now work. I don't get as many errors like this when I restore about 10-200 megs at a time. I have a dv6885se. NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN Intel Core 2 Duo T8100 / 2.1 GHz Also, based on this, what choices should I chose if I reinstall with JaS_10.5.4? I was able to figure out kalyway, but not this. That, or can I upgrade? I've tried to and failed. Also, to add on to everything else, I've bought a family pack of OSX. Is there any way I can add that key (is there one?) into an OSX install I borrow from a bay? 00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: Intel Corporation Mobile Memory Controller Hub [8086:2a00] (rev 0c) 00:01.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation Mobile PCI Express Root Port [8086:2a01] (rev 0c) 00:1a.0 USB Controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB UHCI Contoller #4 [8086:2834] (rev 03) 00:1a.1 USB Controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB UHCI Controller #5 [8086:2835] (rev 03) 00:1a.7 USB Controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller #2 [8086:283a] (rev 03) 00:1b.0 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller [8086:284b] (rev 03) 00:1c.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) PCI Express Port 1 [8086:283f] (rev 03) 00:1c.1 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) PCI Express Port 2 [8086:2841] (rev 03) 00:1c.5 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) PCI Express Port 6 [8086:2849] (rev 03) 00:1d.0 USB Controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB UHCI Controller #1 [8086:2830] (rev 03) 00:1d.1 USB Controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB UHCI Controller #2 [8086:2831] (rev 03) 00:1d.2 USB Controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB UHCI Controller #3 [8086:2832] (rev 03) 00:1d.7 USB Controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller #1 [8086:2836] (rev 03) 00:1e.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation 82801 Mobile PCI Bridge [8086:2448] (rev f3) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge [0601]: Intel Corporation Mobile LPC Interface Controller [8086:2815] (rev 03) 00:1f.1 IDE interface [0101]: Intel Corporation Mobile IDE Controller [8086:2850] (rev 03) 00:1f.2 SATA controller [0106]: Intel Corporation Mobile SATA AHCI Controller [8086:2829] (rev 03) 00:1f.3 SMBus [0c05]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) SMBus Controller [8086:283e] (rev 03) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: nVidia Corporation Unknown device [10de:0427] (rev a1) 02:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation Unknown device [8086:4229] (rev 61) 08:00.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. Do you have a link, I can't find this on Goggle or Google code.
  8. Hello! I've installed OSX, and am using GRUB to boot to OSX, XP Pro, and Ubuntu. Currently, this is my hard drive partition layout: * I want to copy sda3, my 'advanced' install of Ubuntu to the extended partition, to replace sda5. Sda5 is a basic install of Ubuntu but I'm running Grub from it. My plan is this: To copy the GRUB boot config file (menu.ls) from sda5 to sda3, and then (using a Parted Magic live CD) delete sda5 and paste sda 3 in it's place, but making it much smaller. (Around 25GB) Then, I will make the HFS+ partition larger (I can do that in OSX, right?) and move sda2 (windows) to the right, making it smaller. My questions are these: Do you understand me? Lol, I'm always afraid that I explain too much! Next, will the above work? Specifically the copying of Ubuntu. And last, with my free space, what type of drive would be best made to be supported in Ubuntu, XP, and OSX? I'm thinking that fat32 will be the best. I would use NTFS, but it does not seem that OSX fully supports it yet. I can access EX2 from Windows, but from what I've read, the EX2 driver for OSX is very buggy/ you's lose data type thing. I know most of this is an Ubuntu/Linux question, but I have a feeling many Linux people are here! But if you can't answer it, at least you can answer the question about the file system that is best supported by OSX, XP, and Ubuntu. Free software is best, cheep is ok, and expensive is a no-no. Thanks for hearing me out! *here

I have a DV6885se, with a 8086:423/ 4965AGN Do I need to do this to make it work with OSX? Or do I need some kind of driver to make it work?

Thank you so much! I now have working sound, but have not tried the wireless fix. Because that involves messing with the BIOS/HEX (I HATE hex editing!), I'm a little hesitant. That... and I have to be in Windows to do it! (Lol, even though I've downgraded from Vista to XP, and have customized XP... my little time with OS X helps me see that OS X is sooo much better!)

Ok, I have a dv6885se* Working: Ethernet (out of box) video card (out of box) USB (out of box) audio Not working: wireless web cam Not tested, but I think works: firewire *(On the front it calls itself the HP Pavilion dv6000, but I've had the best results with windows drivers calling it the dv6700... confusing, eh?) Here is the technical stuff, I don't know exactly what to do with it except to find the device ids. Maybe you can use it for something. 00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: Intel Corporation Mobile Memory Controller Hub [8086:2a00] (rev 0c) 00:01.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation Mobile PCI Express Root Port [8086:2a01] (rev 0c) 00:1a.0 USB Controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB UHCI Contoller #4 [8086:2834] (rev 03) 00:1a.1 USB Controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB UHCI Controller #5 [8086:2835] (rev 03) 00:1a.7 USB Controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller #2 [8086:283a] (rev 03) 00:1b.0 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller [8086:284b] (rev 03) 00:1c.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) PCI Express Port 1 [8086:283f] (rev 03) 00:1c.1 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) PCI Express Port 2 [8086:2841] (rev 03) 00:1c.5 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) PCI Express Port 6 [8086:2849] (rev 03) 00:1d.0 USB Controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB UHCI Controller #1 [8086:2830] (rev 03) 00:1d.1 USB Controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB UHCI Controller #2 [8086:2831] (rev 03) 00:1d.2 USB Controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB UHCI Controller #3 [8086:2832] (rev 03) 00:1d.7 USB Controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller #1 [8086:2836] (rev 03) 00:1e.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation 82801 Mobile PCI Bridge [8086:2448] (rev f3) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge [0601]: Intel Corporation Mobile LPC Interface Controller [8086:2815] (rev 03) 00:1f.1 IDE interface [0101]: Intel Corporation Mobile IDE Controller [8086:2850] (rev 03) 00:1f.2 SATA controller [0106]: Intel Corporation Mobile SATA AHCI Controller [8086:2829] (rev 03) 00:1f.3 SMBus [0c05]: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) SMBus Controller [8086:283e] (rev 03) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: nVidia Corporation Unknown device [10de:0427] (rev a1) 02:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation Unknown device [8086:4229] (rev 61) 08:00.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.
