  1. Snow Leopard doesn't include driver for the 88E8040, which is 100Mbit adapter. The cards in the official kext are gigabit. The kext contains drivers for:

    Atheros AR5006 and 5007 Working.

linux is not unix ! what error message are you getting from mac os when trying to load the kext for the card ? Changing the device ID in the EEPROM could be a solution to your problem.

OS X on Virtualbox: Has it been done?

What do you need to port ?! VMWare disks are working perfectly in VirtualBox.

Rebranding Atheros AR5006EG to a Vanilla Card

Kykc, did you look in the values from the BIN file or from the displayed on the terminal EEPROM data ? Use the printed values and not the Bin file.

Rebranding Atheros AR5006EG to a Vanilla Card

As far as I know AR5BXB6 is the model of the original Apple Airport Extreme card. So I just checked the PCI IDs database and the only card that came up was the one from IBM. My original device ID was 001c, but it somehow caused problems when trying to load the kext. Changing only the PCI IDs shouldn't cause hardware problems. It may make your card undetectable until you enter working IDs. Check if the Atheros kext (Info.plist) has the PCI IDs in it, otherwise add them to Info.plist.

Rebranding Atheros AR5006EG to a Vanilla Card

I don't have any disconnects. Before rebranding I wasn't able to use the card with Mac OS at all. I got always errors when trying to load the kext. My card is detected as AirPort Extreme (0x168C, 0x58A) by System Profiler.

    Atheros AR5006 and 5007 Working.

Forget about 5007, its not supported yet. For all of you who get the "loaded unsuccessfully" message on 5006 there is a chance of getting you card working by changing the PCI IDs in the EEPROM space.

Kalyway 10.5.2 no recognize my HD SATA

Check in the BIOS if the SATA controller is working in AHCI mode, as this is required by Mac OS.

    HFS+ Partition error

Try using pc_efi from netkas and boot it from grub. It should recognize your partitions and boot the kernel.
  10. Try rebranding your card using the guide I posted here: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=122365 I used to have absolutely the same problem with my Gigabyte WI07HT, rebranding solved it.

Rebranding Atheros AR5006EG to a Vanilla Card

Rebranding solved my problem with a Gigabyte (Atheros Chip) card. Use ath_info from the madwifi project to change the IDs in the EEPROM. Be careful at which addresses the IDs are saved. On my card they were not in the beginning of the EEPROM space. In my case I had to change GPIO 3 to 0 in order to be able to write to the EEPROM. Thats the list of changes I made Device Class from 200 to 280 (at 0x85) Device ID from 001c to 1014 (at 0x82) Subvendor ID from 1458 to 1014 (at 0x8a) Subdevice ID from e917 to 058a (at 0x8b) I can't guarantee that these IDs will work with a rebranded card, but in case of failure try using other Device ID, which can be seen here : http://pciids.sourceforge.net/pci.ids That is how the rebranded card is regognized by lspci: 0b:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Atheros Communications Inc. AR5212 802.11abg NIC [168c:1014] (rev 01) Subsystem: IBM ThinkPad 11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini Express Adapter (AR5BXB6) [1014:058a] Although the card is rebranded, Mac OS X 10.5.4 recognizes the chip and works properly with the card. Thats what I get in dmesg: AirPort_Athr5424ab: Ethernet address 00:1d:7d:XX:XX:XX
  12. If there was a working kext, don't you think somebody would have posted it ?! About the FreeBSD patches: If you supply the source of AppleYukon2.kext modifying it shouldn't be a problem, but until then we just have to wait for Apple to add support for 88E8040 (Yukon FE+), which seems to be different than the already supported Marvell chips.

    Atheros AR5006EGS in 10.5.2

Were you able to get the card working ? I have a similar card from Gigabyte, WI07HT on a Dell Inspiron 1525. The error I get is absolutely the same as yours. I suspect that the EEPROM of the card is causing trouble. The chip seems to be supported by the original kext and the card works flawlessly under Windows and Linux, so the problem should be somewhere in the middle... EEPROM dump from a card with the same chip (AR5424), but from different manufacturer would be very usefull.
