  1. OSX86 on Intel P45 chipset?

Unfortunately, the Pro uses an Atheros L1E chip instead of the Marvell chips used on some of the other P5Q's. You might want to check the Hardware and Drivers / LAN and Wireless forum. There is an Atheros thread there, but I have no idea if the L1e is supported.
  2. OSX86 on Intel P45 chipset?

Here is what I did with mine. This is strictly from memory from the last time I did an install about a week ago. Some of the names and acronyms bellow maybe misspelled but you get the idea. I tried several distros, but only got the newest iAtkos to work. 1. Flash your BIOS with a modified version that enables DCDT (or whatever it is, too lazy to look it up right now) look earlier in this thread for the link 2. Set your SATA to AHCI in the BIOS, all the other stock settings should work 3. Get the iAtkos 4.0 DVD 4. Boot it 5. Partition your drive 6. Install the two stock options (vanilla kernel, APPLEACPI - again prolly wrong name, but lazy), the first SMBIOS option, SATA driver, appropriate graphics driver, and the Marvell Network driver (this driver only enables the top ethernet jack, you can use this one, or get the bottom one working after you install) 7. Boot into OSX 8. Install the 2 kexts I posted earlier in this thread to get basic 2ch analog audio out, and to get the bottom ethernet port working.
  3. The 9600GT is not currently supported. There is some speculation it will be in 10.5.5, but no one knows for sure.
  4. ADI AD2000B audio codec

Here is the kext I modified to get basic sound out put out of my P5Q Deluxe/AD2000B. It's not going to have all the bells and whistles, or anything. AppleAzaliaAudio.kext.zip
  5. OSX86 on Intel P45 chipset?

Odd. All I did was add the PCI ID of the Intel ICH10 audio chip (0x3a3e8086) to the existing Intel onboard audio driver and it worked fine. I can see the HD Audio device in the output section of the Sound control panel. And in the sound effects section, the effects are black (instead of grayed out) and I can click on them and hear them. Also, I didn't use the Kalyway disc (I couldn't get get it to install with out a panic so I used the new iAtkos v4 with no problems), so I can't speak to the driver in there. But the P5Q Deluxe has two different Yukon chips, the 88E8001 (LAN2, top port, PCI to PCI-e bridge chip) and the 88E8056 (LAN1, bottom port, native PCI-e chip). The skge Marvell Yukon driver I've seen packaged with many distros supports the 88E8001 chip (LAN2, top port) but not the 88E8056 (LAN1, bottom port). I had to edit the Yukon driver that apparently ships with OSX to get the bottom port working. Now, that brings up something interesting. Maybe the change I made only works with the files installed by iAtkos. Maybe Kalyway has already modified some of their audio files, and the change I made won't work with the changes they made? An interesting experiment would be to install iAtkos, and install the kexts to see if they work then. I do see that on the Kalyway 10.5.2 DVD, there are two files in the Patches directory that could counteract the change I made. AppleAzaliaAudio.pkg and RealtekSigmatelConexantAnalogDevicesHDAudioCodec.pkg. Maybe the change i made doesn't work with whatever is in these packages? I know gedebukk got the audio to work with his P5Q-E (which also uses the same audio and LAN chips as the Deluxe). I would be curious which install he used.
  6. OSX86 on Intel P45 chipset?

Interesting. It's on their website, but no notes as to what changed. I would be a little leery of flashing to that. But that's just me. http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?board_...SLanguage=en-us EDIT: I see Asus pulled the 1003 BIOS off their website as of 7/22. I'm willing to bet it was a beta that was accidentally posted to the website, given there was no changelog when it was there.
  7. OSX86 on Intel P45 chipset?

I got sound working! I'm sure its just basic sound, no bells and whistles, but that's all I need it for. I was able to hear sounds in the System Preferences Sound section, as well as go out to the Quicktime movie trailers and watch them. Nothing is listed in the System Profiler for audio, but it does work. All I had to do was add the PCI ID to the AppleAzalia kext in the Intel ICH6 section. Basically it was the same thing I had to do to enable LAN1/Marvell 88e8056 in the AppleYukon2 kext. Now I just need a working 9600GT driver (unlikely) or go buy an 8800GT (more likely). Both of these kexts are inside another kext, so I'll just attach the whole ball of wax. You should be able to just replace the existing kexts in /System/Library/Extensions. AppleAzaliaAudio.kext.zip IONetworkingFamily.kext.zip As a reminder, these are for the P5Q Deluxe. I can't guarantee they will work on any of the other P5Q boards. But they probably will if Asus used the same chips on the other P5Q boards.
  8. OSX86 on Intel P45 chipset?

Well, I was finally able to get it installed using iAtkos 10.5.4 distro. Although it was giving me trouble when I tried to format the partition I had set aside, so I just blew that drive away. It's just my "toy" operating systems anyway. After that, I was able to format and install fine. Network gave me a little trouble. The Marvell driver in the distro only supports the top LAN2 port. That is a PCI (bridged to PCI-E) 88E8001 that I normally have disabled in favor of the true PCI-E 88E8056 LAN 1 port on the bottom. I found a post on here that explained how to edit the AppleYukon kext, and now the bottom port works perfectly. In fact, I'm typing this in OSX right now. Now I just have to wait for someone to figure out the audio. And my 9600GT. But I may just bite the bullet and get a 8800GT instead. But thanks for everyone's help!
  9. OSX86 on Intel P45 chipset?

I did flash my BIOS with Kabyl's a few days ago. I also have to use -f when bootig the DVD, or else it panics on what appears to be an ACPI error almost right away. With -f, it boots further, getting to the point where it can find my drive. I tried all those settings, still no luck. If I'm reading the panic correctly, it has something to do with USB/HID. I tried turning hi-speed off in the bios, with no luck. I have a G15 keyboard with a bunch of extra bells and whistles, so I tried replacing it with a regular USB keyboard, but I still got the same error. I took a snapshot of it with my phone, if anyone can maybe see something else in there that I'm missing.
  10. OSX86 on Intel P45 chipset?

If your referring to the SATA settings, I've already tried AHCI with no luck. AHCI and Compatible both allow me to get further than Enhanced, but I still get a panic at the same spot. I have an Asus GeForce 9600GT, and I have an E8400 running at the stock 3.0GHz. I'm using an MBR formatted disk. I really also don't feel like repartitioning my drives. But I don't know that is an issue at this point, since I'm not even getting into any installer areas. As far as I can tell, the kernel is panicing before I get to that point. But I could be wrong. I'm pretty new to this. But I've been pouring over the fourms the last 2 days trying to find some solutions.
  11. OSX86 on Intel P45 chipset?

I'm struggling with a P5Q Deluxe. I've never tried installing OSX before, but all my attempts so far have been futile. I've flashed with the modified BIOS but I'm still having difficulty. I've only tried the Kaly 10.5.2 release so far. First I was getting kernel panics almost right away after the display switched from text to graphical text/smaller font (if that makes sense). Booting with -v -f cpus=01 got me past the first panic. Now I can get as far as it detecting the NIC, Firewire, and my drives. But it panics shortly after that. I've tried changing a number of BIOS settings with no luck. Any advice or tips from people with the P5Q seriers boards would be greatly welcome. I've already determined I need either Comapatable or ACHI for SATA. With enhanced it just sits there saying it can't find the root file system. But all the other BIOS settings I have tried seem to make no difference.
