    GA EP35C-DS3R - Audio problems

Andrei I have the GA EP35 DS3L motherboard as well. I have been running 10.6.7 successfully, and I used the kakewalk installation method. Can you please tell me in what manner you managed to get your system updated to 10.7 please? As probably everyone here, I'd like to go to 10.7 on my current system, without needing to buy new hardware, when the system can be run successfully without strange errors. Did you have to do anything special, or manual, about setup or post-setup of 10.7? I just read a blog on extracting the .dmg file from the app store download package. -dave

    My new PC specs

Kakewalk was a very good install process for me and I suggest it if possible. Looking at the Kakewalk site, the compatible hardware as of now is listed as: There are packages built for the following motherboards. Note: The installation might work if you’ve got a similar motherboard. Gigabyte EP45-UD3LR Gigabyte EP45T-UD3LR Gigabyte EP45-UD3R Gigabyte EP45-UD3P Gigabyte EX58-UD5 Gigabyte EX58-UD3R Gigabyte EX58-UD4P Gigabyte X58A-UD7 Gigabyte X58A-UD3R Gigabyte EP45-UD3L Gigabyte EP45-DS3L Gigabyte G41M-ES2L Gigabyte P55M-UD2 Gigabyte P55-USB3 MSI P55M-GD45 I have a Gigabyte EP35-DS3L, which is very similar to the EP45-DS3L. For me, it works fine. If you haven't bought the hardware yet, consider the hardware in the Kakewalk list. the install process was very easy, and my system is working beautifully now. To be honest, I have the MB as above, but I also have 3 drives ... I have 2 swappable bays for regular SATA internal drives. I have in those bays a 500gb Apple HD drive, and a 1.5tb Timemachine drive. this way, I can remove the boot drive or the backup drive easily and swap in replacement drives. I have a 1gb Data drive built-in to the case. This configuration works very well for me and I suggest it to anyone who will listen. Rest of my system is pretty stock. 8gb RAM, nVidia graphics card, (2)x 20-inch monitors, bluetooth USB dongle for the mighty mouse.
  4. Hey there LTL. I just wanted to say 'Thank you' for this guide which was the only light showing me the way to a functioning OS X installation when you first posted it. You were very helpful to me, with my now-antiquated Gigabyte EP35-DS3L motherboard (which still works wonderfully-- I have it running 8gb RAM, dual 20-inch monitors @ 1680 x 1050, Logitech 9000 Webcam, dual-core CPU, 3 hard drives, a Chameleon Boot partition and boot drive, plus a 640gb data drive and a 1.5tb Time Machine drive each in SATA hot-swap bays, running on OS X 10.6.7 now). For Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro 4, the i- suites (iLife and iWork) and even web-browsing, I think this is a wonderful machine. Several of my friends are jealous of the power of this system, and then when I show them it's a self-build and tell them the price of components, sometimes I have to help them up off the floor!! But that is 99% thanks to you [i'll modestly take the 1% for the build effort and working your guide to successful completion. ;-) ] Anyway, to you I want to express my deepest thanks in the help of this effort!! -dave Connecticut, USA
  5. Hello All and Happy New Year. My apologies if this has been asked and answered, but what is the difference between the dvx and the dvxt? Does this process only work for dvxt models (intel CPU) or will it also work for a dvx such as the core i5 version of the HP Pavillion DV7-4057CA 2.53GHz i5-430M Notebook (ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470). I'm just looking at purchasing and don't know what the t in dvxt signifies -- whether it's some component on the system or just cosmetic difference between the dvx models. thanks in advance!! -dave
  6. Ok, thank you for helping me with the PC-efi v9. Now, I want to know, do I have to install it to both my Macintosh volume as well as my utility_boot volume? (following, of course, how LTL suggests to have 2 boot partitions, one for normal work, and one to use to install OS updates ...) thanks! -sdr
  7. Guys- I've got a silly problem that's more annoying than anything else. I have a system built but I find that to boot, I require to have in the DVD drive either a Kalyway DVD or boot-132 disc. It'll ask to boot off the DVD, but I don't hit anything, then the system boots just find off the hard drive. I don't know why this would be. Anyone have any ideas they can share? s.d.rose
  8. Interesting: the signature does not show when I wasn't logged-in. So, for someone who doesn't have a login and wants to see my components ordered, here they are. 9. I just ordered the parts & the OS X install a few hours ago. I'm quite excited in anticipation of receiving the components and to be able to build this machine!!!! So much so, that when I ordered the Mac OS X, I bought the family pack hoping that this would work just fine, and that I'd want to install this on another system or notebook or two!! Anyway, the SIG has my components ordered, and I will post back with success report or with possible problem reports / help request. -sdr
  10. pardon me LTL, or anyone else willing to answer, but is that the EP-model of gigabyte GA-EP35-DS4? I've read (almost) all the previous posts, and saw where you said at one point where the ep-model of boards were giving people difficulty, but I was unable to find the P-only model of gigabyte ga-P35- boards any more. If someone can clarify this, I'll go and buy the hardware. Also, I would like to do Premiere and Photoshop. No reason these apps shouldn't work on a home-brewed OSX system? Does anyone know if quad-core is fully utilized, or if there is little performance difference over a dual-core? Thank you for your experiences and willingness to share!! I can't wait to buy the hardware and build this system!!!! -Dave
