  1. EFI Studio and Chameleon Use

Thanks! In that regard, what is the best method for managing video via Chameleon? Or is EFI Studio the 'preferred' method? I would prefer a method that allows Updates without having to reload kexts after the update etc. Thanks. SG
  2. Chameleon uses it's own com.apple.Boot.plist as I understand it. When using EFI Studio for Video, does EFI Studio write to the com.apple.Boot.plist in Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist or the one in /Extra? Thanks SG
  3. About this Mac

Running Leopard 10.5.6 with Gigabyte 945GCM-S2C MB. About this Mac reports 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo but not the exact CPU. Here is the installer log. Your help is appreciated. Installer_Log_19_May_2009.txt
  4. I am running Leopard 10.5.6 installed with Vanilla Native install disk and cannot get your About This Mac fix to work. Here is the Installer log for it. Your help and advise is possible. Processor reports 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo but not the exact CPU. I ran the Terminal command line which reports the correct CPU. Installer_Log_19_May_2009.txt
  5. Works like a charm in Tiger to update to 10.4.11! Tried it on one install of 10.5.4 to update with the scripts to 10.5.6 using Combo updater to 10.5.6 but did NOT work. First thing I noted was that you have to update from the downloaded updater on your install because if you use the update via Updater, it will not let you run the scripts! I tried doing it with the downloaded updater but still failed to get it to work. Can anyone explain the script commands? What is [! ] ? in the if command? What are the -d and -f commands related to the ! in the if statements? Thanks very much!
  6. Will your scripts work for Leopard upgrades on a GUID system using EFI? Worked perfectly on my 10.4.10 to 10.4.11! Thanks very much!
  7. I was wondering why you installed onto MBR as the last step rather than a GUID installation which I thought was more 'Mac' like? Also, I thought MBR only allows up to 500gb partitions with the current Disk Utility whereas GUID allows for much larger single partitions(?). Thanks very much for your great set of instructions!
  8. I was wondering what the advantage is to your installation onto MBR partition as the final installation? I thought GUID is more 'Mac' like? Also, MBR will only allow a single partition of 500gb whereas GUID allows much larger partitions (?). Thanks very much!
  9. ALC88x 10.4.8 Kext

Did you get sound working on your MSI board with ALC888? I have found that many boards with that sound codec don't work. In particular, AsRock and MSI boards. I believe that I read somewhere that boards that do NOT have digital IN (SPDIF IN) will not work, and I believe that the MSI and AsRock boards are in that category. If you want an excellent board that DOES work, get one of the Gigagbyte boards such as the GA-945GCMC-S2. This is an excellent board that does overclocking, supports Core 2 Duo cpus including up to 1066 and 1333 FSB (latter with OC) only though) and the ALC888 works perfectly with the installer in this forum. Let me know about your issues with ALC888 and the MSI board. Thanks. sg
  10. Vanilla vs. patched kernel switching

Thanks! Interestingly, there does not appear to be any easy way to determine which kernel is actually booted from within OS X. Also, I checked performance with Geekbench and Xbench and there does not seem to be much performance difference using those programs between the different kernels. Actually, I get a very slight performance advantage in 10.4.10 with patched kernel vs. Leopard 10.5.1 using both vanilla and tohkernel. Thanks again. sg
  11. Kaly.. uD Man!!!! Great work!!! I am typing this from myKaly 10.5.1 GUID EFI install on a Gigabyte GA-945P-s3 with ATI x1950xt Intel E6600 @ 3.00Ghz with 2GB memory. Runs very nice. Interestingly, Geekbench (2.0.9) reports score as 3198. However, on my 10.4.10 install, on same machine (hard drives different models tho) with patched Kernel with Uphuck, Geekbench is 4048. Hardrive with 10.4.10 is WD SATA II cavier 16 and with Leo, Seagate SATA II also with 16MB cache. I am trying to figure out two things: 1) How do I verify that I am running Vanilla Kernel. I typed 'Vanilla' (without quotes) at Darwin option and am now working from that boot. About this mac reports Mac Pro and Geekbench reports Hackintosh. 2) How do I switch between the vanilla kernel and patched??? I checked root in Terminal and there are four items: a) mach_kernel, Vanilla nd c) mach_kernel_ctssys and d) tohkernel which seem to represent different kernels. Do i type mach_kernel=vanilla etc? Thanks sg
  12. Using the above methods, I was able to get Tiger running with both the pathched kernel and the vanilla kernal on a GUID formated partition! I actually used the clonetool Hatchery method of Flibblesan above plus the installation of pc_efi and changing out the kernel once booted into the OS (10.4.10 upHuck install) using the 10.4.10 plain vanilla kernel to then boot into Tiger. I am still not sure about stability of the vanilla kernel yet as I have not used it extensively. However, I can report a modest speed boast reported by both Geekbench (4038 to 4049) and Xbench (237 to 249) in my system. It would be nice to be able to clone the system from disk to disk without having to manually load pc_efi. Is this possible?
  13. Can you post your clonetool Hatchery settings please? ie Hackintosh, Intel, Bless, Erase etc? Thanks sg
  14. How do you prevent Pacifist from installing the Kernel (or other files for that matter)? I dont't see any 'check' areas to decide whihc specific files to install within Pacifist. (Pacifist 2.5.1 - latest version). Steve
  15. Can anyone point me to iether a method or installer for an update from 10.5 to 10.5.1 from ToH?
