  1. Hi Blackosx, I finally have a working 10.6 install now, dual booting along with Win7 on the same drive, chameleon on EFI partition. I followed your 10.5 dual boot guide and it worked well, boot-up time is around 35 seconds. However, i do have some minor issues like, bonjour still doesn't work, probably due to the fact the ifconfig method needs the script to load at startup, but since i'm using chameleon on EFI partition, and the fact that EFI partition remains unmounted as default, the script doesn't work. Any other alternatives? Once again, I'm really thankful to you for your support, without which this wouldn't have been possible and the way you have lead this thread along with your excellent guide is exemplary. A shot from my 10.6 install.
  2. Havn't tried ifconfig yet, but i somehow managed to get my long boot time fixed, to some extent atleast, by using a different kext for my ICH9 SATA that works only in 32-bit.(i won't be booting 64-bit kernel anyway). Now , i need to fix two these two main issues first: 1. ALC888Sound So, what's the best and easiest method to get my sound working here, in leopard i used a modded AppleHDA.kext that used taruga's patches. I don't want to use any dsdt fix here and just want to get it working with least effort as possible, atleast for now so please help me on this. 2. USB : USBEHCI and USBUHCI: unable to initialize uim error which in turn affect sleep and shutdown/restart. In leopard i used modded usb kexts for this, but again, i'm clueless about how to get it working in SL, with least effort again, any straightforward kexts in E/E will make it right perhaps?
  3. Yes, i used the same driver for PS/2 as on stell's blog, anyway i removed dsdt.aml, and my PS/2 devices are working normally now, and i don't feel any changes due to removal of dsdt. Only things i actually patched in dsdt were sound and Ethernet but sound isn't working already and my realtek 8169B ethernet works out of the box( i don't knw how!?) Bonjour still doesn't work though. I don't think i need to use any special kexts for my mobo apart from the ones that i'm using for PS/2 and my ICH9 SATA, the only kexts currently in my E/E the generic ones, SMC, sleep enabler etc. I've attached a list of kexts i'm using currently. I've also somehow managed to fixed spotlight issues, i was even experiencing some weird "privacy list error" when adding folders/drives to exceptions in spotlight but after deleting .Spotlight-V100 folder, everything is working as it should. I havn't bothered to fix USB as of now actually as the main things that remain to be looked after are: 1. Sound 2. Boot time Even if everything works, the long boot time is a big turn off for me, my 10.5 booted in less than 30 seconds flat. I don't know what it is, but it seems like it waits for something called IOKit which leads to the long boot time. Also i'd like to know if its possible to clean install 10.6 from within the OS.
  4. Thanks a lot for addressing all issues in detail. Well, the working PS/2 driver for 10.6 is already there in E/E and it worked through the preboot.dmg in bootCD throughtout the installation process. Disk utility loads fine when launched from Utilties folder directly, i've searched but so far no satisfactory results. Also, another problem with spotlight is that, in finder it returns 0 search results when i search for something in that particular folder, instead of "this mac". I don't know if that's a known issue or what. Like if i seach for some kext in extensions folder selecting the folder itself as a location to look for, it returns 0 results for any query. And the boot is fairly slow to begin with, when i boot with -v, just after it says DSMOS has arrived, it shows my ethernet controller detected and , then it stalls for about 3-4 minutes till the desktop loads, i don't know why this is happening. My sound doesn't work either, its ALC888 and i followed the same instructions as mentioned by you, patched the dsdt and put the AppleHDA.kext in E/E, but its no go. How do i know if my DSDT loads as intended?, i havn't patched my Graphics through it, as i used EFI strings for the same purpose. Sorry for too many questions but i'm really flustered now.
  5. Well, none of that unfortunately made any difference for me, so i did a fresh install on a different disk and yes!..chameleon loads fine from the cham partition now! But rest is pretty much still the same, once i boot into the 10.6, my PS/2 ports don't work and there is no extensions.mkext in Cham/Extra, how do i know if all the kexts in E/E are properly loaded? Disk utility still crashes when launched from spotlight. The error log shows this: Exception Type: EXC_BREAKPOINT (SIGTRAP) Exception Codes: 0x0000000000000002, 0x0000000000000000 Crashed Thread: 0 Dyld Error Message: Symbol not found: _DMDiskChangedNotification Referenced from: /Utilities/Disk Utility.app/Contents/MacOS/../Frameworks/DUSupport.framework/Versions/A/DUSupport Expected in: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DiskManagement.framework/Versions/A/DiskManagement I'm done with repairing permissions and all but no changes, do i need to run kext utility or the terminal commands you mentioned at the end of the tutorial under Fix A, B? Also, do i need to remove in extensions from System/Library/Extensions to avoid any conflicts in future? I think i'm pretty close now, a few fixes here and there will do the job, i guess, but i'm not sure about what they are.
  6. Hey Blackosx, you really are doing a great job with this guide, regular updating and all, excellent stuff really, thank you! Anyway, after giving up on installing few days ago due to successive failures, i thought about taking a shot at it again with BOOT132 CD method as explained in your recent v2.3 guide, i somehow managed to modify kexts to support my hardware partially and booted SL DVD and completed installation successfully on a separate HDD. After that, i booted into 10.5 again and installed chameleon along with the new RC3 boot file on the Cham partiton, added kexts to e/e along with boot.plist Smbios.plist and my dsdt.aml, rebooted and set boot device priority accordingly but just as i boot from it i get a screen boot0..GPT boot:... boot0:Done.. And the cursor stalls after that, forcing me to restart, what am i doing wrong here? I removed all the unnecessary stuff from e/e, but its stays the same, even after reinstalling chameleon all over again on the Cham partition, it stays the same, also tried setting the Cham partition "active" with fdisk but that didn't help it either. Anyway, i inserted bootCD again and somehow managed to get into snow after almost 5 minutes it took to load. Everything works great but i experienced a few weird things. 1. Disk utility fails to launch through spotlight. 2. Chameleon installation fails from within snow. 3. My PS/2 key/mouse aren't working, although i inserted voodoo kexts into preboot.dmg which made them work while installation.
  7. Nice guide, helped me to get past "still waiting for root device.." on my Non-AHCI MSI P35 ICH9 board. I have 2 questions here, 1. I've modified the Info.plist of AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext to include my board's correct device id's (both 2926 and 2921) but the thing is that after the installer boots and i launch the Disk utility, it ONLY detects the SATA DVD drive which is on the 2nd SATA port and my SATA HDD which is on the first SATA port. My other SATA drive remains undetected which is on the 3rd port. I can't get my PS/2 keyboard and mouse to work right after the Installer boots with the Bootcd. I did put the current ApplePS/2.kext in preboot.dmg which works for me in leopard. Perhaps there is some newer version of the PS/2 driver that'll work, please point me to the right direction. Also wanted to know if i can boot directly to my Snow install after completing the installation and then installing Chameleon and kexts on E/E. Thanks a lot in advance.
  8. Boot132 cdboot for Snow Leopard

My install DVD halts at the exact same screen, please update the thread if you find a solution.
  9. It happens just after i boot into chameleon when booting through the USB stick, the installer just fails to start. No it hasn't installed at all, i'm just booting through the bootable USB install disk which i made precisely following the instructions in your guide. Here's the folder structure on my USB stick. Edit: I came across a screenshot of your "Install" disk permissions, owners etc. few pages back, mine seems to be messed up. This could be a reason perhaps? how do i set these right?
  10. So, i made a USB stick to Install from but as soon as i booted through it i got this kernel panic, any clues?
  11. A very well written guide, although i have MSI P35 motherboard but i guess basic part of the process would be fairly identical so i'll be sticking to your guide for any help. In addition to boogi's query i'd also like to know if you had any problems with Leopard/SL install not reading the Win7 partition. I particularly had this issue when a tried partitioning in GUID scheme. I made partitions in Disk utility in this order: Windows 7 FAT Snow Leopard HFS+ Leopard HFS+ Data HFS+ After formatting these in GUID scheme, i performed a fresh Leo install on the 3'rd partition, after which i booted Win7 Setup and formatted the 1st Partition to NTFS within the setup and then installed windows on it, everything went smoothly without any hiccups until i booted back to my Leopard install only to find that Win7 partition shows as a blank FAT partition, which is surprising as windows runs without any issues. I tried this atleast twice just to make sure but no luck. Should i try partitioning with Leo and Snow partition above the windows partition, would it solve this? Again, thanks a lot for this slick guide.
  12. Here's my config: MSI P35-Neo Motherboard Intel C2D 2.8 Ghz SATA DVD and HDD drives Realtec ALC888 Sound Realtec 8168B Ethernet (works with R1000.kext) nVidia 8600GT 256MB Well, just like everyone out here, i'm very excited to finally be able attempt SL install on my PC. Currently my system runs iPC 10.5.6 flawlessly with vanilla kernel. Only thing i remember doing is modding my bios to bypass the "I/O clusters.." error. I've been off the scene for a while but i've figured out that retail installs are the best way to go about it. So in my attempt to do the same i'll be sharing my experience with updates in this thread. There are lot of 10.6 Retail install guides floating around here which does make it a bit confusing. Although most guides are for Gigabyte motherboards but i guess there's a lot in common, also P35 chipset is supported fairly well, so it won't be that much trouble. Anyway here's a rough listing of what i have gathered till now. The install requires: A 8GB USB stick which will consist the modified retail install to be used. A Retail OS X 10.6 DMG A HDD with a GUID partition scheme. A working Leopard install. A separate partiton for Snow install. Chameleon 2.0 RC1 on a EFI partiton. Patched DSDT.aml for sound/video/ethernet. Some support files in /Extras like: -com.apple.Boot.plist -FakeSMC.kext -UUIDfix.kext -SMbios.plist -PC EFI boot file. etc.. I guess that would be it, i'm sure i've missed some things but i hope things will get better as i progress with the install. Share your experiences here and lets make it more easier for our fellow MSI P35 owners.
  13. Is 10A432 the Final Build?

10A432 is most likely NOT the final build, 10A435/10A436 is.
