It could b a bug in the clover build so it’s worth checking to see if there’s an update for it.

In the Clover problems & features topic, on of the latest pages, someone mentioned the same problem and the solution was to replace the x64 in the Clover folder, copy the same file to the another folder (the boot one I think) and rename it to bootx64.efi.  Did this last night and the issue seems to be solved.  Systems seems to be a bit snappier than before, probably did something wrong in Clover in the earlier days.

And while we're at it about going something wrong. In the beginning when everything was set up, more specific the SMBIOS, RT Variables, MLB Field, SmUUID & board serial

part, I did as explained in Glasgood's topic and all seemed fine.

While updating to a newer EFI, in a not so sober state :dev:, I just copied over your folder and rebooted.  The previous folder was backed up but as everything ran fine I deleted it days later. So my original clover plist file is gone.

When I check Hackintool most of the info still seems to be correct but not 100%.  Will this be problem you think? Or is it better to start over?

    Thx

  2. Hi,

Will pose the question here, if I need to move over to the Clover section let me know.

I've been running your EFI for some weeks no and it still runs fine.

    Mojave

    9700k

    Aorus Master

    RX 580

    Clover with your latest EFI

    1 SSD with WIN10 & it's own EFI

1 SSD with Mojave & Clover

To keep it easy for the misses the default boot drive in the BIOS was WIN10, the Mojave drive with Clover was always chosen via F12.

To eliminate this step I tried to change this in Clover.  The default boot drive in Clover was set to WIN10 by using the Volume ID.

What doesn't work anymore since the change is the countdown timer. It's set to 10 seconds but doesn't count down.

It isn't a big issue but if it could be solved = great.  It's handy when rebooting remotely.

    Thx in advance.

you would have to disable the igpu in the bios to use smbios 1,1 or 19,1 with igpu disabled. there's no way around that one I'm afraid.

@decat a rx580 works better with the igpu enabled using 19,1.

While reading your reply I realised the same question was already asked by me some time ago.:lol:

    Hi

Follow what @AudioGod says. It's a good solution.

One stupid question: I've a MSI Radeon RX580. No IGPU needed, this card supports 4 HDMI ports, so I could use one for monitor and for TV if I want it. Display TV can be disable in macOS.

While searching on the net for a solution I found information about the app SwitchResX, tried it and could indeed disable the TV but even after a reboot the system could somehow see it. The memory clock of the RX kept turning @ 2Ghz. TV is disconnected at the moment and will keep it that way while looking for other possibilities to let the misses watch her series while I use the computer.

  4. I do think they are not correct, started a bit of troubleshooting and searching on the net because I got a similiar setup & when having two monitors connected the RX 580's memory clock is constantly at 2Ghz. Temp of the card is around 48 to 50 on idle and therefore the vents always turn on & off.

With only one monitor connected temps are 10° lower.

I just measured at the wall socket moments ago:

My setup:  Z390 Aorus Master, 9700k, RX 580 Sapphire Nitro Pulse, Mojave & Clover.

Screenshot 1 Dual monitor setup in macOS consumes 79w on idle.  Power from screens not included.

Screenshot 2: system of but the NAS, router & switch are on the same socket drawing 50w

Screenshot 3: dual monitor in Windows drawing 76w on idle.  No screens either.

iStat says that my RX 580 is taking about 90 to 100w constantly.  At first I thought just like you that there might be problem, but compared to Windows it takes the same power from the wall.  In Windows HWmonitior & Radeon tool says the card takes about 32w in idle.

After @psycato his questions not so long ago I noticed something odd. After installing iStat menus I noticed that the RX 580's memory doesn't idle in my system. It keeps running at 2 Ghz, having connect two 1920*1080 screens @ 60Hz. One connected via HDMI & one via DP.   The problem was not only hackintosh related but in Windows I was able to resolve the issue, the clock idles back to around 300Mhz and draws significantly less power. In Windows the issue was caused by a different refresh rate on the screens. One was 59 and one 60Hz.

Now back to hackintosh. I've been searching on the net for several hours but couldn't find a solution yet but it seems I'm not the only one having this issue. The clock remains at 2Ghz when the 2 monitors are connected via DP & HDMI.  Changing the DP cable with an HDMI one wasn't any better either.   Then I disconnected the second monitor / tv & rebooting blew life in it, now it fluctuates between 300 & 1000Mhz.

Does anyone know how to resolve this?  The TV & monitor we're using are both 1920*1080 60Hz capable.

It doesn't cause issues while using the system but it draws 40w more on idle.  If possible I would like to get rid of the exces.

    Thx in advance.

So, after searching for a solution on the internet I found out that this problem is related to AMD setting the clock in a higher range when multiple monitors are connected.

I don't really need a dual monitor setup in macOS but in Windows it's necessary for the misses.

Instead of disconnecting the cable everytime, would it be possible to disable a particular HDMI port in macOS?

  7. This might look like a strange / stupid question, but better ask than have problems afterwards.

My system (with rx580) is connected to two screens.  One 1920x1080 monitor via DP used for general stuff and a 1920x1080 tv via HDMI.

The monitor for general stuff via DP needs to be replaced.  Will it pose problems when I go higher in resolution? Like quad HD or 4k ?  The TV will remain 1920*1080 for a while but in the near future / when it breaks it will be changed too.  (to probably the same resolution as the monitor I'm planning to buy now)

    1. if Catalina was installed on it’s own drive then go ahead and rebuild the whole drive. If it was built on the same drive via a second partition then check using clover config to see if there’s a EFI partition connected to the Catalina Partition.

    2. With a RX580 MSR unlocked isn’t so necessary but saying that a real Mac has MSR Unlocked as standard and it’s a plus to system stability no matter what so with all that in mind I do recommend it.

    3. There’s no one specific tool to use that’s better then your eyes and brain, if it all looks good and feels good and there’s no errors showing in the logs then your golden buddy.

    4. I’m about to update the thread with a new EFI and or DSDTs for bios F11c for the master and I’m going to post a MSR Unlocked Profile for it while I’m at it. If you tell me what colour you mean by macOS colours then I can program the profile to make the board light up that way for everybody as standard. I was going to set it to RGB colour changing for fun but you tell me and il make it so?

    i hope that help, :thumbsup_anim:

Thanks for the info, Catalina and later on Mojave were installed on the same drive, not partitioned but 'splitted' by using volumes.

I deleted the Catalina volumes and Mojave kept on booting with no problems though there where still two boot options for the same drive in the board's boot manager.  To keep it 'clean' I wiped whole the drive and installed Mojave from scratch.

MSR profile will be installed soon, pitty the graphic card always needs to be removed to access the board's battery. :|

Programming a RGB color in the board is not necessary for me, but thanks for the proposal. You'll never be able to content everybody by chosing one color.  Thanks again for the work you all are putting in to this, unbelievable. :w00t:

  9. I did the installation some days ago and I must say I'm very impressed.

When I bought this system I tried to hackintosh my old 2500k & got it up and running thanks to the help of the Olarilla board. It had some issues running well & finally stopped using it.

But this one, damn. It's like a real mac.

Since the install I've had zero issues, all seems to be running fine but again here are some practical questions.

    Quick resume:

    9700k

    Corsair Vengeance 3200

    Sapphire RX580

    Samsung 960 NVME with Windows

    Samsung 970 NVME for macOS

WD Black for storage under Windows

Crucial P1 for storage under macOS

And not really important but all is in the same case as yours but less RGB.  Didn't try the USB C port yet, don't use it much anyway.

    The questions:

    1. I thought having prepared a Catalina installer but it wasn't so Mojave was installed. All went fine, tried some stuff and tried the update to Catalina which went fine too. Since I sync my music library between the hackintosh and my MBP which I prefer to keep on Mojave I ran into some issues. So back to Mojave on the hackintosh. I didn't delete anything of Catalina yet, just did the install on an extra volume on the same disk which now resulted in having 3 volumes (maybe 1 extra due to the update Mojave > Catalina?) What I want to know, can I just delete the two Catalina volumes? I won't use them anymore but I'm hesitant because of the EFI, is it on one of those two or elsewhere?

    2. I didn't do the CFG unlock yet, is it necessary to do so as I didn't have any issues so far?

    3. Is there a way / tool to check if it runs as it should?

    4. Can the RGB colors on the board be changed to macOS?

Thanks in advance for the help.

  10. While waiting for the card some practical questions:

    1.  Already got Windows 10 running on the machine and has it's own SSD (500GB 970 EVO NVME). Will it still work after the  install of Catalina or does it needs to be reinstalled? Windows was wiped  a week ago so doing a fresh install if needed won't be much of a hassle.

    2. Catalina will be installed on a 500GB 960 EVO NVME. Is it better to keep is at a whole drive or can I split it up?

    3. The last drive I'm using is a 4TB WD Black in NTFS. It contains all my music & the misses's movies etc. I don't really need access to all of it when using Catalina but I do need a let's say 250GB accessible from both OS'es. It's just needed for music files and traktor / rekordbox library thus no big files.  Splitting the Catalina SSD in half would be the easiest (AFPS/FAT32) but if not possible / if it could cause conflicts I'll need to find a solution to move all the stuff away from the WD Black and split it in two.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

Everything in your part list is good apart from the gpu. That will give you a lot of trouble and yes the only way to get the system to work would be to disable the gpu via the dsdt and then use the igpu for macOS. What would be a much better thing to do would be to get rid of the GT1030 and get a AMD RX570 instead.

the way you would like to do it will cause you pure headaches brah.

    Hi,

    thanks for the info.

Is it possible to explain how it would cause headaches knowing the egpu would be disabled?

The GT1030 was cheap & is only used for the TV when the misses wants to watch Netflix etc and doesn't draw much power.

Last night I read that some RX 550 / 560 also work, they just need to have a baffler of polaris chip & enough stream processors. Could you confirm? If there's no downside on using the 550/560 I might get one of these instead, they're not expensive (100 eur for an Asus Arez RX 550 2 gb or 110 for the 4gb) + got warranty.

Thanks in advance & best wishes.

  12. Hi

Looking forward to try this on my Windows machine. After reading several nights on how to get MacOS on my build the more I read the more I got confused. The information given on several sites sometimes differs alot. :ninja:

What's given here as information seems pretty straight forward so I'm going to give it a try soon.

    Currently running:

    9700k

Aorus Master Z390 with F10 bios

    Corsair Vengeance 16gb 3200

    EVO 970 NVME with W10

EVO 960 currently used as data but will be used for MacOS

    WD Black 4TB for data

NVIDIA GT1030  :w00t:  not playing games on W10 atm but might change in the future.

Fractal Celcius S24 AIO cooler   problem?

I read that the NVIDIA card is not supported nevertheless Catalina would also run on iGFX which is what I want to do. What I don't is how to disable the GT1030. Could someone give correct information of how to disable it?

If it wouldn't work for Catalina installing Mojave is good for me too, my MBP 2012 is also running on Mojave.

Thanks in advance for your input / precious help & happy new year all.
