Lenovo ThinkPad T420 with UEFI Only

Tried 3 different installs, reformating each time and re-imaging the USB before the last one just in case. Log attached, not sure what I'm doing wrong :/ Installer Log 01-11-20.txt

I ended up bricking the install that was on mSATA drive. I wiped it and started over with dosdude patcher (downloaded 10.14.6 through the tool). I had a hang-up at 99% with "less than a minute remaining" - I didn't save the logs, but installation was complete, it was hung up removing files (I think). I rebooted and the mojave wasn't on my Clover options, even after fixing the EFI partition and running dosdude's post-install patcher. For what it's worth, the installer sat at 99% ("less than a minute reminaing") for about 15 minutes before I forced it off. I'm going to run the install again and leave my computer overnight to see if it makes a difference. I'll get the logs this time. Installer Log 01-05-20.txt

I realized that I downloaded all of the dosdude patcher stuff but never actually used it, I ended up using the EasyMBR installer Maker. I had a few beers that evening lol. I tried to use the Dosdude patcher originally, but after I create the USB and boot from it I end up staring at the apple load screen as it crawls to a complete bar (usually takes ~15m) and then it sits frozen at 100% loaded moving to the Mojave installer. Any ideas? I have a working 10.14, should I reinstall fresh if I get the Dosdude patcher to work or is there an easier updater? When I try to run 10.14.4 combo updater, it says "software not supported on your system".

It took a bit of work, but I was able to successfully install Mojave. This may seem like a noob question, but I downloaded a combo update to 10.14.4, but I'm unsure how to proceed. I should note: I used Dosdude utility/guide to create my USB, however I didn't have the update patcher (must have done something wrong when creating). I followed his guide to add the patch updater utility post-install and I now see the option to upgrade to 10.15.2, but I think I'd like to stay in mojave.

Purchased, great price for 256gb! I think I was confusing the WWAN WLAN thing. During the original Sierra install I upgraded to an Atheros chip; around the same time I bought a disc caddy, similar to what you mentioned. It houses the original 160gb HDD while my 256gb SSD sits in the default bay, I would like to update the HDD since storage prices are at an all time low and it just seems like a no-brainer. I just purchased the mPCIe SSD that Goodguess recommended, I'll make that my primary boot drive and keep sierra on the SSD in case I run into troubles.

Appreciate the help - can I buy you a beer? Im going to take goodguess' advice and buy a fresh SSD, I've been feeling like upgrading from my current 256 so something a bit meatier anyway. I definitely need WLAN, certainly don't mind upgrading hardware if need be. I'm a teacher and I can't afford to be without a machine so I think I'll wait until winter break starts to mess around with the upgrade; that will also give me time to wait on a new SSD to arrive.

@tluck Thanks for your guides/help. About a year ago I was able to get 10.12.6 running on my T420, it's been a dream and real workhorse at school (I'm a teacher, constantly projecting). Lately I've had issues where I can't update microsoft office applications because Sierra is no longer supported. I feel like it may be time to update and I'm interested in the dosdude method for mojave - would this be advisable? I 'm not 100% certain on which display I running, how would I go about checking this? I've downloaded a 10.14 installer and a 10.14.4 updater (as well as Dosdude's patcher). - Before I begin, what should I back up and how?

@tluckI was having issues with firefox application windows freezing when moving (note: HD3000) and noticed that others were seeing the problems fixed when they used 2e3 config. I tried this and it fixed the exact issue that was causing the graphics glitch. I decided to take it a step further and delete the other configs from my EFI so it could only load this working config.plist. However, now when I boot it's a very slow booting window that freezes at a black screen. I can boot Ubuntu from USB, but I can't access the EFI drive (at least I don't know how). ------------------------------------------ Problem solved. Nevermind, I was able to plug in the bootdrive to my PC and using minitool partition wiz and explorer++ I added the configs back to the EFI and I'm booted up with my random freeze issue seemingly solved. Cheers!

Sorry friend, I meant to put my build in my signature before making my last post. Bluetooth is working, however I'm unable to access any trackpad preferences. My BIOS was 1.49, and I downloaded what I thought was a 1.52 whitelisted mod, however it rolled my BIOS back to 1.41. Now, it's a modded 1.41, I have access to the advanced menu and whitelist removed. Sierra installed smoothly so I decided to just leave it be. I wanted the modded BIOS because I have 2x8gb DDR3 and an AR9280 on the way. The EFI folders were copied to ESP.

Weird thing, I can't access trackpad int he system pref. Bluetooth: This can't be accessed in the BIOS by chance, can it? I guess I'll have to make a USB bootable OS

Thank you, Goodguess. I'm running installs while I wait for the new wireless card. I'm not getting any bluetooth right now, are there steps to get the onboard bluetooth working? Also, my trackpad is working, but I'm not getting single touch, just x and y movement. Any ideas? Synaptics hardware, I believe.

Hi T420 peeps! I'm a first time hackintosh builder and I could use some help getting my machine off the ground. I've researched for about a week and I've spent a couple days just trying to get a mountable USB to use (and I'm not even sure if I did that correctly). To some extent I followed TLuck's guide, but I had to create some workarounds for limitations - I'm not sure if maybe I skipped something vital that is creating my current road block. Pertinent information 83ET79WW BIOS 1.49 41786vu intel i5-2520 2.5ghz Intel HD 3000 x Nvidia NVS 4200m 1600x900 BIOS settings Album Creating the USB... After many attempts to create a working USB install directly from my windows desktop using things like R-drive, rufus, win32diskimager, etc., I ended up creating a Mojave environment in VM Workstation. However, I cannot download a copy of Mac OS from the app store, for some reason it keeps returning with an 'incomplete' error even though it's up-to-date. At any rate, I downloaded a .raw file from olarila and used etcher to flash it to my USB. I then ran Clover r4726 pkg from the 10-31-2018 utilities and plugged it into the T420. USB finally working... I boot to clover and the initialization scripts run - I finally see the "Install Mac OS" and disk utility. Which brings me to my current road block: I cannot write to my internal disk. I have unplugged it and swapped it into my desktop to reformat to no avail. I also swapped in a spare clean drive with no luck. My gut feeling is that something in the BIOS is stopping the USB installer from speaking to the hard disk. Any ideas? EDIT: I'm so dumb. "diskutil eraseDisk JHFS+ disknamehere disk0" formatted it with no issues. However now it says that I can't install 10.14 on this computer...
