  1. I'd like to build an as cheap as possible mackintosh, sub 200$ ideally (without the disks), whose sole purpose will be to hold several raid1 backup disks accessed through gigabit ethernet. No need for any other bells and whistles, just blazing fast mac-to-hackingtosh file copy through gigabit ethernet. What hardware would you suggest?

How to get full hardware details?

It is not an expansion card (at least seen from the outside). It sits right next to the ethernet port, squeezed tightly between the ethernet port and the DVD. I no longer have windows around (and am worried downloading and installing a copy will mess up my mac configuration). Is there a mac app or a terminal command that could "discover" it and give info about it? Thanks gringo!

How to get full hardware details?

Attaching in this post the lspci -vv as well as the extensions folder contents. The computer does have a 56k modem which I'm looking to make use of, though it is not listed in the lspci, even after update-pciids (update-pciids gives a curl failed writing body message on 10.5.6 iPC) lspci.txt extensions.txt

How to get full hardware details?

Great, lists many things, but not all. Missing for example the modem ... and that's the piece of information I'm after so I can find the appropriate driver to get it to work. Any hunches on how to discover which is the modem?
  5. How can I get the full hardware details of my machine under 10.5.6 iPC? I have a Sony VGN-FS285B and would like to have a full list of the hardware of my machine. System profiler is very limited in which information it shows ...
  6. Motherboard/graphics card is the i915GMS/i910GML rev 3 system is iPC 10.5.6 I only use this machine as a seedbox, with transmission. There is nothing else going on on this machine. RAM wise there's plenty of free RAM, Processor wise it hardly ever goes to use 20% CPU. The machine does however produce quite some heat, and the fan is running constantly, sometimes faster, sometimes slower (especially when the screen dims), but always on. I guess this has to do with the graphics card, since plenty of RAM and plenty of processor available. I reduced to thousands of colors, and the fan is somewhat slower then at millions of colors at times (or it is wishful thinking that it is slower ... psychology!). How can I tweak the graphics so that the thing runs more quietly? I don't need anything else then the OS and Transmission.

    Sony VGN-FS285B some errors

This system is half working now, as follows: Installed with iPC 10.5.6 PPF5 (other iPC boot DVD versions didn't work) and with the kexts as per listed by Cerastez link (thanks!) Restart WITHOUT THE DVD in the drive, F8, -f (without the DVD as I could not get F8 to work with the DVD in the drive) Filled in all the apple setup & registration {censored} Restarted, F8, -v The lines follow very fast, but I saw 3 errors in the verbose, being: "Hibernate failed" some "Firewire" error some error about a "com.apple.something.ACPIPS2Nub.something" In addition, when restarting or shutting down and restarting the computer, every 2 times it does not go through the startup-process (so I restart, it doesn't go through, I hard reset restart, it goes through, I restart it doesn't go through, I hard reset restart and it goes through, etc.). I have a picture with the error message attached in this post, but I do not know if it is the same error every time. I'd be interested what these errors are all about.

Thanks for the suggestions! First I try with iPC 10.5.6
  9. Which X86 OSX 10.5.X version should I try to get easiest install? The hardware I wish to get OSX working on is: Computer: Sony VGN-FS285B Motherboard: intel i915GMS/i910GML rev 3 Processor: Intel Celeron M 1.5 Ghz SSE2 Network: Intel ® Pro/100VE RAM: 512 MB HD: DK23FA-60 IDE: intel 82801FB/FMB Screen: intel 82915GM/GMS 82910GML Don't care so much about the sound and the wifi working.
  10. I have a sony pcg-7a1m which I would like to easy-run osx on. Is it possible to have OSX run in a slimmed-down version of windows, with VMWare or VirtualBox or other?
  11. I'm looking for the netbook with the easiest install process and easiest upgradeability for snow leo. The 10v was a prime candidate, but, impossible to get it any more since dell discontinued it. Been looking into many of the guides, but, in your experiences, which one has the easiest "out of the box" install and maintenance process?

    which netbook has highest ram?

Just reviving this thread to see if there are among the new netbooks any noteworthy/easy installers carrying higher then 2 GB ram?

    which netbook has highest ram?

Hmm, should then change the question as to which sub 12" portable computer has the highest ram. Are there any 10"-11- laptops with better/faster processors then the Atom that can run OSX?

    which netbook has highest ram?

Looking good! but, one could argue that it is no longer a netbook at 12".

    which netbook has highest ram?

Happy to see there's now a dedicated netbook hackintosh forum around! I'm just wondering which netbook has the highest GB of ram (upgraded)? I read that the HP mini 311 can handle 3 GB (read on this forum) and the HP mini 700 can handle 4 GB (2*2) http://h10010.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/documen...product=3834715 But, maybe there are others that can handle 3 and 4 GB, or even more?
