  1. LOGIC PROBLEMS

Haven't visited here for a while, so only just read the follow-ups, but thanks for your help everyone. Solved the problem with a new firewire card. The original one had a VIA chipset, new one has TI chipset. Wouldn't have believed it myself, but hey, the difference is staggering. Was beginning to think that I needed built in firewire, but doing some research suggested that there are lots of benefits to have a separate card. Either way, it's now working so I don't care. You'll need a card that allows you to use an external PSU, as there won't be enough voltage to power the duet on it's own. My PSU is 12 volts, with center pin +ve, but I think the duet is quite flexible in what voltage you can use from about 7 to 30volts. Label on the underneath suggests that, but 12v is definately working well here. Thought that I wasn't going to solve the problem, but persistence payed off! Really didn't want to get rid of the Duet and anyone thinking about getting one, stop thinking and get one, you won't be dissapointed.
  2. LOGIC PROBLEMS

hi, got a problem with logic, wonder if anybody have a solution? Basically using logic 8 on my hackbook with apogee duet. t5500 cpu 4gb ram wd 250 gb hdd (ide) firewire pcmcia card logic works really well, with no sign of overload, but i get random distortion, drop-outs which are really bugging me when recording. Thought it might be a buffer issue, but i've experimented with every size and and just when i think i've solved the problem, it comes back. Have tried recording to external 7200 rpm drive, no difference. With my desktop hack, no problems whatsoever, amd athlon 3500, 2gb ram. beginning to think it maybe the firewire card, a generic 400 card, which i got working with a driver found on this forum. Any possible solutions would be really appreciated. C
  3. Solved the problem, new graphics card (geoforce 7300gt 256 mb) and reinstalled without nforce chipset. In fact this solved the problem before new graphics card but on latest installation used nvinject and now have qe/ci enabled and extended desktop on my 2 vga monitors. Have also fixed usb problems by using download from this post, thanks guys. http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...=95789&st=0
  4. Acer Laptop users (Intel).

Hi, have just installed kaly 10.5.2 on my acer aspire 5630 and everything appears to be working very well. This uses Intel t5500 cpu and intel 950 graphics, 1gb ram .Wifi not working, intel 945 but not too bothered about this yet as i've done a tri boot with xp and vista and osx is only really on there so i can run logic 8. i used the speedstep kernel and have battery meter, and associated support working ok. a couple of probs which I've managed to sort... Firstly, usual problem of usb storage not mounting, fixed with download from here http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...=95789&st=0 Secondly, i used the download from here to get pcmcia working. Initially it caused some kind of kernel panic, after booting with -x and rebooting, problem solved so it now recognises my firewire card. http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=81036 Hope this may be of help to someone. I'll let you know if any problems arise in the next few weeks. All in all, I'd say that this acer makes an excellent choice as a hackbook! :-) Ps i'm getting about 82 when i run X bench, is this a decent score? Will be upgrading from 1 gb ram to 2gb shortly so i'll let you know if this makes much difference.
  5. APOGEE DUET DRIVER PROBLEMS

Solved the problem, new graphics card (geoforce 7300gt 256 mb) and reinstalled without nforce chipset. 6. Apogee Duet Problem

I've now sorted this - applenforceata issue
  7. I'm currently struggling to get my Duet up and running. The system recognises it ok when it's plugged in, but when I install the Apogee software, I get the grey screen of death at reboot. I've got the latest driver downlad from Apogee 'May08', anybody know how I can get it working? Perhaps installing the kexts without the installer? Be really grateful if anybody can help me...
  8. Logic on Hackintosh

This works a treat. I used super duper to copy to desktop then modded as suggested. Not sure if this was the best way to do this but worked for me as I'm new to using macs. Thanks alot, now to try and get my duet drivers installed without the kernal panics at reboot.
  9. APOGEE DUET DRIVER PROBLEMS

Hi all, When I try and install the software for my duet, it installs ok and then it says it must restart and says updating boot cache then when it does reboot, i get the grey screen of death. the duet is recognised by the system before installing the software so is there a way to install without causing this problem? hack is built from gigabyte k8ns ultra mobo amd 64 3500 cpu 1 gb ram pny quadro or sometimes matrox millenium agp graphics card kalyway 10.5.2 cheers C
  10. Apogee Duet Problem

Hi all, this is my first post so I would like to say a big 'thank you' to all the help and advice that's been provided on these forums to enable me to get my hack up and running. Much appreciated everyone. Anyhow, I've just bought an Apogee Duet to use with Logic 8 and my problems are this. The system recognises the duet when plugged in and I can play itunes through it no probs, but when I install the drivers, they install ok, the system then says that it needs to restart, updates boot cache and when it restarts I get the grey/restart screen of death! I'm presume that this must be due to a clash with the firewire kexts already installed and I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if so, is there a work around? I've got the latest drivers from the Apogee site, so I don't think that's the problem. I've dragged the install package into pacifist and it separates the various kexts and software so i'm wondering if there is a way to install these separately. This is where i really need some advice as without these i can't control the unit so it basically becomes a very nice paper weight!! Any suggestions anyone ( apart from selling it to you at a vastly reduced price!) my hack comprises the following gigabyte k8ns ultra amd athlon 64 3500 1gb ram pny quadro agp graphics (qe/ci not working but planning to update) kalyway 10.5.2 everything works really really well and is very stable and quick. the graphics isn't really a prob at mo as it's only for use as a daw although a proper version of logic won't install due to VRAm error but I think that will be solved with new graphics card (nvidia 7300gt perhaps?) thanks in advance for your help :-) C
